Wine Meow Watch News 2021/04/28

This week we look at the labelling, preservation, and aging of wine.

How many grams of alcohol are in a can of beer?

Asahi Beer has published the pure alcohol content in grams of canned items such as beer and chiuhi on its official website in Japan since March. In order to make it easier for consumers to confirm, it will be added to the product labels from July onwards. With this information, it is expected that by the end of the following year, all products containing alcohol will be marked with grams of alcohol.

Excessive drinking can increase the risk of lifestyle-related diseases. The current standard for excessive drinking is 40 grams per day or more for men and 20 grams or more per day for women. The Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare decided to require the industry to express the amount of alcohol in grams, so the ingredient labeling needs to be changed. Other beer giants, such as Kirin, will start to change their labels by the end of 2024, and Suntory and Sapporo will publish the action guidelines for the changes on their official websites within this year.

The next time you drink any alcohol, how do you remind yourself not to drink too much? Refer to asahi's pure alcohol calculation formula to quickly calculate it!

Containers for extending the shelf life of commercial sake

Nippon Sakemon izakaya "Kunishu no Shiye" and Sawahime's sake brewery store are conducting a demonstration experiment of "Sake オンタップ", using "KeyKeg", which prevents the contents from contacting the air, is lightweight and can be completely recycled. With the small instant cooling distribution pump "Wine オンタップディスペンサー" that does not require an air compressor, it is expected that every glass of wine provided to consumers is as authentic as drinking in the wine store. The verification experiment will be carried out until mid-May.

There are many application scenarios such as beer and wine packaged with KeyKeg, and the space and cost of moving wine boxes, refrigerating, opening bottles, and handling empty bottles are considerable. From another angle, "saving" is more suitable for house wines that restaurants run on a regular basis, but personally, what about the fun of opening bottles, flavor changes, recording wine labels, and show-offs that are unique to the designated wines? When you find that you want to take pictures of delicious wine but only have a plastic bucket, you will feel very empty. However, if it is a wine exhibition with unlimited items, price-based pricing , and all-you-can-drink scenes, the guests will only see the wine dispenser and not see the wine barrel. There is a collection of wine labels that can be photographed. For the record, such an alternative is also possible.

Aging Japanese sake using the reservoir management channel

Six sake breweries in the Saku area have formed the "Saku SAKEAging (エイジング) Research Association". Five breweries will move a total of about 3,200 bottles of sake into the management channel of the prefecture on April 26, 2021, and are expected to store them until the end of August. Shipped out, listed in September.

The temperature of the aisle is maintained at about 10 degrees over the years, which is suitable for storing Japanese sake. Since Sakuho Town wanted to make use of this space, he proposed to Kurosawa Shuzo, a representative of Nagano Prefecture and the Research Association, as a storage space for Japanese sake. This year is the third year to implement it. In the past, Japanese sake matured in the water tank was praised for its richer taste. After waiting for another four months, we can compare the flavor changes after aging this year.
