A Poem: If I Must Be There When I Die

It’s a shame that there is no escape, from birth to death.

I heard I must be present

at my death

Too bad

But I don’t mind writing my own

obituary

In case people forget

everything about me

which they are so used to - quickly

For fear, people would cry

their hearts out for me

which is, sadly, very unlikely

Because who can afford an emotion

so deep and so heavy?

I think I’ll have to be present

at my funeral

Too bad

Don’t I have better things to do?

Aren’t everybody so busy

that no one cares to talk or love

eat or sleep?

But I’m afraid that’s what it will be —

Big moments always come

before you’re ready

If it’s what it is

let it be

Because who has time

to agree or disagree?

-THE END-
