Summer!

It's July 2022, and no amount of absurdity seems to surprise me. From the plague, war, and the upcoming food crisis, etc., the history has used the lineup of the Four Horsemen of the Doomsday, what else can shake people's hearts? What Hong Kong can contribute is to have summer vacation in March, so let’s go to early summer!

Regarding the summer vacation, a song brings my mind back to the summer vacation more than 20 years ago, that is Chen Sheng's "Summer". That year was the summer vacation of my sixth year, and the whole vacation was spent in supplementary classes and in the study room. Go back to school in the morning to make up lessons, go to the study room after dinner until ten o'clock, and warm for a while after taking a bath from twelve to two o'clock. Chen Sheng's songs should have been reviewed in the library for a long time. He went to the record area to borrow them and recorded them on MD (a product of another era), which became an indispensable adjustment for review. Some people study for absolute tranquility, but I am not. The native family is too noisy and has long been used to working without quietness. I have to study abroad only because I can use the dining table to study books late at night, and I need foreign aid the rest of the time.

In the summer vacation of 2001, Eason Chan has not yet released "The Easy Ride", but Joey Yung has already released "Full Body Summer Vacation", which is very popular today. Today's classics "Shaolin Soccer" and "Buying a Killer to Shoot People" were also released that summer vacation. The beauty of that era was simple, there was no social media, youtube, and the phone was only used to make calls. The most fashionable phone that year was nokia 8250, and the ringtone had to be sung by hand. If you don't want to do it yourself, you can go to the phone shop to find someone to pay for it, and there are keychains that flash when a phone calls. Today's new technology certainly brings benefits, but it cannot replace the simple feelings of the day.

When I finished my A level summer vacation next year, I went to a real estate agency that closed today as a summer job. It was my first full-time job. This is a shocking education for the author. From an ignorant rural youth to a wage earner, he has traveled more than half of Hong Kong. Although it was hard work until I returned to university in mid-September, people and things were very interesting, and I also saw the dark side of work and human nature. Over the years, I accidentally returned to some places where I worked at that time, and the memories of that day came back again, but it was a pity because the situation was completely different.

In fact, this is growth. One cannot just deny innovation with nostalgia, nor throw it away when the inadequacy of the past is a shame. However, those in power today are constantly revising the teaching of history for the sake of today's political convenience, denying the current political solution to the problem in disguise. This is a bad omen of bad politics. Fortunately, they don't have a time machine, otherwise the universe will be destroyed because of them.

The past two or three decades have been the most united and peaceful era for mankind. Thinking back twenty years ago, it is too far to imagine twenty years later. Twenty years have passed, but the beauty of the past is still lingering. Whether it will be good or bad 20 years from now is really hard to estimate based on today's trends. I have to do my best and hope that those in power don't do too bad things.
