"Output" is the key to growth │ "Highest Learning to Use"

I used to record the titles of the books I read and watch the list get longer and longer, and I feel a sense of accomplishment, but most of the contents of the books are vague to me. Now that I have written my reading experience, I can remember the knowledge in the books better.

The author has published daily e-newsletters for thirteen years! From the preface, you can see his amazing output and admire such a prolific author.

The layout of this book is based on two pages of pictures and texts, from psychological concepts to practical methods, to teach you how to change reality through "input and output". This article will share four methods that I think are practical, and then start with the first point!

Basic rules of input and output

The author mentioned that many people have excess input (insufficient output). No matter how large the input is, as long as there is no output, it will not become a memory. The key to growth is "output". Through continuous input and output, it can grow itself. The golden ratio suggested by the author is input: output 3 : 7. In order to achieve real output, it is okay to reduce the input time.

The output that the author refers to is not only writing, sharing with friends or acting on the content of the book is one of the ways of output. Explain that what you have learned can be converted from "semantic memory" to "episode memory". The former is a single-point fragmentary phenomenon memory, which is easier to forget, while the latter is a plot of past events, which is less easy to forget.

Ask "Why" Before Learning

There is a phenomenon in psychology called the "cocktail effect", which describes that in a very noisy cocktail party, you can still quickly respond that others are calling your name. Making good use of the brain's selective attention can increase learning efficiency. Before reading, asking yourself questions, such as "Why am I reading this book?" and "What do you want to get from the book?" can help you focus more on what you want to learn, and your brain will work hard to find answers.

With a learning goal, comparison won't get lost.

When taking notes, write down the three awareness and TO DO

When taking notes in lectures, in addition to jotting down new discoveries and important parts of the lecture content, you should also write down your inner awareness. What the speaker said, you can read the notes slowly, but the current awareness will disappear within 30 seconds, and you will miss the opportunity for self-growth. The "TO DO" list also urges you to apply what you have learned to your life. .

When I saw this passage, I reflected that I tended to be obsessed with details at the moment of the lecture and copied like crazy. Even though I listened to a lot of lectures, I didn’t go back to read the notes at that time, let alone write down my perceptions and thoughts. It’s a pity. Also try not to write notes on the handout, it is unlikely to find the handout at that time afterwards, and the purpose of repeated reading cannot be achieved.

I recalled that when I was interviewed after the lecture, the other person would often ask, "What impressed you in the lecture just now? What did you learn?" This seems to confirm what I have learned and write down my awareness. Similar to TO DO.

Simple post-reading framework

Author shares architecture that anyone can write after reading in under ten minutes

"Before" + "Discovery" + "TO DO"

In the first half, write down your thoughts before reading, such as if you have any questions or troubles. The second half (discovery plus TO DO) focuses on my own discoveries and actions after reading the book, and what kind of solution to the problem after reading the book. (Example of content is shown below)

Examples from the book

I used to record the titles of the books I read and watch the list get longer and longer, and I feel a sense of accomplishment, but most of the contents of the books are vague to me. Now that I have written my reading experience, I can remember the knowledge in the books better.
