[DAO 101 #1] The 3 declarations of DAO, and the 2 effects to be achieved
Thanks to the development of blockchain technology, DAOs (decentralized organizations) are very different from traditional non-profit organizations, enterprises and online communities. Blockchain technology gives us an "invisible sense of trust and participation" with each other, a new experience of organizing activities.
For example, if you donated money to social welfare organizations or local associations in the past, you may worry that the money will be misused, and you may worry about whether the members of the organization have a sense of mission. But now you see a DAO's manifesto and vision to solve global warming, and explain how they use blockchain technology to achieve their goals, you may be eager to try, you know the share of your participation, and you also know the money Can't be used indiscriminately (or even retrieved).
Why? What happened in between?
Before 1980, the word Govern was seldom used, because you could hardly imagine a group needing a new kind of social system. This is the same as the word Priority was invented in the 15th century. Before the 20th century, human beings did not think that the original priority order could add plurals (Priorities), and did not think that people might need multiple goals, like No one thought that there is a need for plural forms of governance in society.
This is the New Governance that appears in the trend of modern society. Under the New Governance, we find that the groups we involve in social life are becoming more and more complex. We are both citizens of a certain country and a certain Citizens of a city, members of a local fan association, top fans of a Facebook group, administrators of a LINE group, president of an online game guild...etc.
When discussing the concept of governance, the well-known Israeli political scientist Levi-Faur believed that the aesthetic feeling in governance continues the traditional aesthetics and comes from the simultaneous existence of the two contradictions (1) Subjectivity (2) Objectivity, on the one hand, we have a subjective mission and declaration, and on the other hand, we have an objective governance process that is recognized by all.
We can almost say that the term DAO itself contains extremely powerful objectivity, because the blockchain technology it adopts is decentralized, immutable, and transparent, all of which provide the foundation of DAO with strong objectivity in governance. support.
Under the support of this strong objectivity, many DAOs can also stretch out a very powerful subjective mission statement. For example, the well-known MoonDAO goal is to send an ordinary person to the moon, and prevent space activities from being hijacked by business giants .
With such a strong subjective declaration, why don’t we worry about MoonDAO’s people stealing money secretly, or SpaceX’s private acquisition of MoonDAO, or maybe a group of aerospace experts behind MoonDAO is doing a bunch of incomprehensible things …Wait.
It is because the DAO provides good objective support.
However, we may also exaggerate the objectivity of the DAO. For example, the administrator of MoonDAO said that the organization has no profit expectations, and those who buy MoonDAO tokens may not be able to redeem their investment in the end, and the governance process of MoonDAO may be most people. No care and supervision.
So from this we know that a good DAO declaration can indeed be subjectively attractive, but whether there can be objective governance procedures in the follow-up to support a subjective and objective unity of aesthetic belief in DAO is very important.
Now back to the declaration, we have recognized that the DAO provides strong objective support, so we must not play small games in the vision, but show a strong subjective entry point that attracts attention, because the operation of the DAO It is de-neutralized, and it is a community that may be more loose than the online community (on the contrary, if you see that the star members are too active, it highlights that he is centralized), in such a loose community In the group, the most important thing is to stimulate the action of "people"!
In order to stimulate people's action, your DAO manifesto and vision should make people feel two effects subjectively:
- I can just go ahead for this (Just Go Ahead)
- I want to be a stakeholder for this (Must Be Inclusive)
It's great if your manifesto and vision is for anyone who is interested to see what he can contribute to the DAO and how he can make a big difference in the DAO's umbrella. On the other hand, if someone sees your manifesto and vision, he doesn't feel what he can do after joining, or feels that after joining, he has to be assigned by others, then he is not interested in participating deeply.
In addition, the person who joins your DAO must be able to expect that he can gradually exert influence in this group, and can intervene in important decisions, and he can slowly project himself from a small member (Member) to become The growth path of a stakeholder, and according to the design declaration and the general trend of market and technology development, he must be in it.
Many DAO declarations have achieved both, but the problem is that after joining, I found that there is no good incentive mechanism to let me do it, such as not using traceable financing, not setting up bounty tasks, and not providing some subsidies , this contrast will cause the declaration to lose its initial effect.
Here I share three forms of declarations that DAOs can consider:
- Heuristic Manifesto
- Anxious Manifesto
- high-level declaration
The heuristic declaration should make people have a feeling of: "Yes, I think this ideal is very good and great, but it is really the best solution to the DAO model now!" This kind of feeling.
Anxious declaration is to give people reflection: "This problem has been difficult to solve for a long time, and everyone is forced to accept the reality, but now DAO can finally solve it!" The idea.
The high-level declaration is to make people think: "This thing is really cool, I must participate in this thing, and DAO can actually do such a thing!" The feeling.
So now we use the first two effects to judge:
- I can just go ahead for this (Just Go Ahead)
- Heuristic Manifesto > Grand Manifesto > Anxious Manifesto
- I want to be a stakeholder for this (Must Be Inclusive)
- Anxious Manifesto > Tall Manifesto > Heuristic Manifesto
Heuristic declarations are more likely to attract people to take the initiative to take actions than anxious declarations, and anxiety-type declarations are more attractive. In order to escape fear, they have a stronger motivation to choose a safety umbrella and join first. .
At this point, everyone will find that I didn't mention FOMO (Fear of missing out, phobia of missing out). It is true that your declaration can properly arouse FOMO in the hearts of interested people, but I think don't forget that after he joins, if I feel a gap with the manifesto, but the result is still the same.
Like my work? Don't forget to support and clap, let me know that you are with me on the road of creation. Keep this enthusiasm together!
