"The people who were there that day - Korea breaking news live"

Dealing with daily news, worrying all the time, making quick choices and judgments in just a few minutes, getting yourself closer to the direction of the news, finding interviewees, and writing articles quickly are the daily routine of every reporter.

Taiwanese readers must be quite unfamiliar with Korean media, and even the book's author, Li Jiahe, an investigative reporter for South Korean cable news station JTBC. This book records the scene of major news in South Korea. The first chapter starts with the fuse of the resignation of former South Korean President Park Geun-hye and the scandal of Choi Shin-sil's political intervention.

Find Zheng Youluo

In December 2016, Cui Xinshi's political affairs were in full swing. Cui Xinshi's daughter repeatedly used privileges at Ewha Womans University, which also caused an uproar across the country. The South Korean special investigation team released a search ticket for Cui Xinshi's daughter Zheng Youluo. It was rumored that Zheng Youluo was in Germany. The South Korean government must ask the German prosecutor for cross-border mutual assistance and extradite back to South Korea.

On the day the arrest warrant was issued, reporter Li Jiahe’s chief called him:

"Jah, let's go to Germany for the interview you mentioned last time, and leave immediately tomorrow!"

If I received such an order from the commander, I would definitely go crazy. At that time, even the South Korean special investigation team had not yet grasped the whereabouts of Zheng Youluo. No one in the world knew where Zheng Youluo was hiding. Investigative reporter Li Jiahe had to travel far to Germany to search for people, but when he landed in Germany and entered the Hessian State Prosecutor's Office to inquire, he found out that foreigners were going to go to Christmas for a holiday, and no one paid any attention to him.

The writing style of this book is not literary, but it has the picture description that TV reporters are good at, which makes reading and following Li Jiahe searching for a needle in a haystack in Frankfurt, Germany, at a loss in the winter streets on Christmas Eve.

They visit Korean restaurants every day to inquire about news, and they get to know the local Korean compatriots well. Among the false and factual clues, even they themselves are not very sure of the judgment, where will they go next? On a snowy night, three reporters, photographers and translators drove an old station wagon to Austria, 600 kilometers away, to find a law firm that might be related to Cui Xinshi's money laundering case. On the way, they received an anonymous revelation that Zheng Youluo is very likely to be in Denmark, not only in the opposite direction to Austria, but also 900 kilometers away.

"Where is it?"
"Which direction should we go?"
"Want to gamble?"

It is difficult for Taiwanese journalists to have such opportunities and resources to participate in large-scale investigative reports like Li Jiahe, who are looking for people across borders. But the moment of every choice described in the book is so familiar to reporters.

Dealing with daily news, worrying all the time, making quick choices and judgments in just a few minutes, getting yourself closer to the direction of the news, finding interviewees, and writing articles quickly are the daily routine of every reporter.

Li Jiahe finally chose to turn around and go to Denmark. I seemed to catch their black Fox Golf. On December 30, 2016, from night to early morning, a 6-hour drive crossed the border between Germany and Denmark, and came at 4 in the morning. To a pristine Danish town with simple bliss.

In a dark and slumbering simple town, they were obviously exhausted, but relying on the reporter's intuition, they saw a house that was not quite right, and hurriedly rolled down the window frame and put the camera on the camera...

Li Jiahe wrote in his preface:

"What happens unexpectedly without any causal relationship, we call it accidental. During the process of tracking Zheng Youluo, we found out her invisibility and revealed it to the world. It is also obviously accidental. Whenever we interviewed In the middle of the day, at the juncture that I didn’t even think about, it was only with the help of people with good intentions that it was possible.”

It is clear that the transnational has worked hard to get to a super exclusive super reporter. Looking back on this process, he can attribute it to the "accidental" and the kindness of others with a very humble mood.

Even though Li Jiahe wrote all the interview process in a very plain way, it still made people addicted to enter the news scene with him, returning to the moment when the adrenaline was soaring, and feeling the sudden burst of lightning and flint.
