[My big private school experience] (19) Red envelope

"Then are you doing better in class now?" This is my truth. I hope he changes classes, can find friends who are in sync, can not force himself to tell jokes that are not funny all the time, can discover his true interests, can put his studies on the right track...

In the heyday of large private schools, the number of teachers and students in day and night schools totaled nearly 10,000, which is still the most in my memory. Although I haven’t been in contact with the education world of Taiwan’s private high schools for many years, but in recent years, Taiwan’s schools have been strongly impacted by the “low birthrate”, and I think it is unlikely that the scale of the past will be repeated. Searching the Internet in recent years, when it comes to schools, they either "merge" or "exit". In today's Taiwan, running a private school is no longer a profitable business.

I don't like telling students to memorize things, and I don't like teaching students with poor foundations to memorize things. I think it only makes sense to use logic to judge and decipher the answer based on basic knowledge. Probably because of this, there are more students who like to listen to the class because they think it is "fun". Originally, this world should be colorful and interesting, and the things that are dead will be forgotten tomorrow. Where does pain and joy need to be learned? When it's time to come, it will naturally be polished on both sides, tormenting you to the death. How to understand and face the world is what education should do.

Although the students in the cosmetology department of the day school did not have a good Chinese foundation in middle school, most of them could listen to the class obediently, and the class response was also good. Sometimes the class is too cheerful, and it's a little embarrassing to make noise to the next class. Many colleagues knew that I did not follow the textbook completely in class, and did not ask students to recite classic texts. In short, among my colleagues in large and private schools, although there are many good friends, my image is somewhat "mistaken".

Alas, not only Wu Zetian, but also a dust-like begging teacher in a great era like me, who is also "two-sided evaluation in the world". Or perhaps, there are not only two sides to the evaluation of a person in the world.

Xiaowei is a student in this class. He is really not very smart. Although he listens carefully to the knowledge guidance in the class, his response is a little slow. Don't think that he is a silent child, he is very lively, but he is the type of self-healing type. He can't even tell jokes after class with his classmates.

Among the boys in the cosmetology department who should be the treasure of the town class, he is not like Xiao Wan's soft and slender, nor is he like Alan's tall and tall, he is a very self-satisfied child. If it was me, I always had to laugh at myself when telling jokes, so I didn't want to keep telling jokes. But he was still laughing at himself after every class, telling jokes that he didn't know where he heard it, and after finishing it, he was the only one laughing as usual.

Sometimes I think that his self-healing may also be a kind of loneliness.

Once after class, he ran to the desk and said to me seriously:

"Teacher, I want to ask you a question."

His expression was so serious, as if I must know the answer.

"Tell a joke, how can you be funny?"

ah? This question really stumped me. I don't learn to tell jokes. Although I occasionally need to make jokes in class, and I also need to have fun in life, but I'm really not very professional in telling jokes. !

I tilted my head and thought for a while, then took a point I heard and told him:

"I think, people who tell jokes, don't laugh first. If you laugh first, it won't be funny."

I'm not really sure if this is right, but I always laugh at myself, so how can others hear the laughter clearly?

He thought about it for a moment, and seemed to realize it. He opened his mouth wide and smiled brightly, and went straight away happily.

Later, when the monitor Xiaoxue came to hand in the homework, he frowned and complained to me:

"Xiaowei is really good."

"What's wrong?"

"After class, he would come to someone to tell some bad jokes that he had heard a long time ago. But some people want to rest, some people want to chat, some people want to do some homework or something, but no one wants to listen to him. those."

"Then tell him he doesn't want to listen."

"But... that's weird, it seems like we're refusing people thousands of miles away." She looked embarrassed, as if she was really troubled. Thinking about it is also kindness and willingness to be considerate of others, so I comforted two sentences:

"No, I force myself to make others happy, and in the end it makes everyone unhappy. What's the point of this? Or to be honest, I have something to do, so I'll listen to him another day. ”

I don't know how their class was adjusted later, but the results were not very good. The whole class gradually became alienated from him, and his professional homework was a little bit behind. The class tutors are all vocational teachers of cosmetology, and they are also worried about Ah Wei. I met her in the hallway and asked her casually:

"I heard that Ah Wei didn't perform well?"

As soon as she heard me mention Ah Wei, her brows immediately piled up and locked. I quickly comforted her:

"It doesn't matter if he doesn't perform well, we'll help him slowly. If he really can't teach, adjust his grades and let him explain to his parents after graduation."

Saying this, it seems that I have been teaching in large and private schools for more than ten or twenty years. In fact, not to mention that I just arrived in large and private schools not long ago, and my teaching qualifications are not as good as those of other teachers! It's just that I was born with an old face, and I seem to be older. She spread her hands and said:

"If it's a professional problem, I can still train slowly. The problem is that he doesn't get along with the whole class. The girls don't want to ignore him, and the boys don't want to ignore him. I can't order the whole class not to ignore him. I think It's very disturbing, and I'm really afraid that he won't be able to hold on."

"Hahaha," I laughed dryly, hiding the predicament that I didn't know what to do. Then said:

"Students will naturally find a balance, and they will get better after a while. There will always be a few better ones!"

"It's good to have it," she continued to furrow her brows, as if to squeeze sweat out of her brows:

"However I think he is drifting away from the class..."

I'm just a subject teacher anyway, and I'm not that close to the students in this class. Besides, I brought a class myself to worry about, so I put these things on the back of my mind.

Near the end of the class before the final exam, I walked out of the classroom of the cosmetology class. Ah Wei ran out of the classroom, stopped me in the corridor, and bowed:

"Teacher, thank you for taking care of me, I'm going to leave school tomorrow."

"Ah?" Even though it seemed to be something everyone had announced, I was still very surprised. Quickly ask:

"Why did you leave school?"

"I can't keep up with my classmates, and everyone doesn't like me."

"What are you talking about? Everyone just doesn't know you well."

He may have a lot of thoughts flashing in his mind, or he may have no idea what to respond to me at once, so he lowered his head. After a few seconds, he raised his head again and looked at me, his eyes sparkling:

"Teacher, I really disliked everyone. I'm leaving. I hope I can tell jokes as well as you in the future."

Huh? What are you talking about? I take classes seriously every day, when do I tell jokes? But it didn't seem appropriate to argue this point at this time, so I could only raise my hand and pat him on the shoulder, and nodded silently.

In the days that followed, Awei disappeared. People who usually have no sense of existence are really going to disappear, but I feel that something is missing. I always feel that the classroom of the cosmetology department is strange. But things were busy, and it wasn't until I entered the grades after the final exam and his name really disappeared from the grade system that I was sure that this person really left the class.

No classmates mentioned it again, but I missed him inexplicably.

In the next semester, I was in evening class, and a student stopped me in the hallway after class:

"Teacher, do you remember me?"

A closer look, it is Awei. How could he show up at night school?

"The director of the department told my mother that I have talent," he said with a smile:

"It's just that I didn't get along with my classmates so well, so I was transferred to night school. I'm still studying cosmetology."

ah? Director Liao of the Beauty Section, will this be too conscientious to speak? I heard from every teacher that Ah Wei's skin care and styling are obviously not up to standard, right? Where does this show talent? Well, in order to reduce the number of students who drop out and avoid performance deductions, Director Liao is really exhausted, ah no, he has exhausted his efforts.

"Then are you doing better in class now?" This is my truth. I hope he changes classes, can find friends who are in harmony, can not force himself to tell jokes that are not funny all the time, can discover his true interests, and can make his studies on the right track. . . . He smiled and said:

"I haven't made any new friends yet, but my senpai takes good care of me."

ah? School sister? I've never heard of the day school seniors taking care of their younger siblings. Are the night school students so warm and caring?

"Yes, that's right, there is a beautiful senior in the ※※ class. She saw that I was afraid of the dark last week, so she took me back to the house she rented to rest."

"Ah? What's going on?"

"Senior sister has her own studio, and she serves part-time work-study service after class. Besides," he giggled as he approached, his expression suddenly showing an ambiguous mystery, and said:

"She was very kind to me and taught me how to be an adult. Besides, she didn't charge me for the first time, and gave me a red envelope."

what! I understood all at once, this, this is probably not a good thing for a lonely student, right? He put his elbow on my stomach and said:

"Senior sister is really gentle, teacher," he laughed even more brilliantly, and said in a low voice:

"You really want to try it out, maybe she'll give you a red envelope too."

Right now, I feel like crying.
