Virtual Nostalgia for the CPSU - Molchat Doma (Молчат Дома)

There is a kind of nostalgic nostalgia for Soviet culture on foreign networks. Even if you have not personally experienced the communist life or the 1970s and 1980s, it may be because today’s society is very depressed, lonely, and hopeless for the future, a virtual world gives netizens an outlet. So he became a frequent visitor to the Russian Doomer music playlist.

The first time I heard Molchat Doma was a meme a few months ago. A drunk cat listened to a Russian post punk on a disco and found the song title Судно (Sudno) in the message room.

And this song is also commonly used in tik tok meme films and has not played junk vibrato, so I don't know how many actually there are, but the number of hits on Spotify is temporarily close to 17 million*, which is a very high number.

The people of the former Soviet Union can understand if they have a sympathy for the Soviet era. However, there is also a phenomenon of nostalgia for Soviet culture on the Internet in Western countries. Even if we have not experienced the communist life or the 1970s and 1980s, we still have feelings for its music, videos and buildings. Today's society is very depressed, lonely, and powerless to the future. A virtual world gives an outlet, which is the type of Russian Doomer music.

And Molchat Doma is a post punk/new wave/cold wave that plays nostalgic style of the 80s, with the shadow of Joy Division, Bauhaus, the cold voice and the vocal Egor Shkutko whispering Russian, unknown reason or better feel.

In fact, I always thought that they were a Russian band. It was not until a large demonstration broke out in Belarus recently that they posted a message to support the citizens on their FB.
