Work stress? 8 Simple Steps to Coping with Stress!

Chronic, low-level, or acute stress can have serious mental and physical effects, so don't ignore the feeling of constant tension. Face your fermenting feelings and learn simple coping techniques to combat the negative effects of everyday stressors.

1) Rebalance work and family

Only work and no play? If you spend too much time at the office, schedule some time to enjoy alone time, or schedule a schedule to have fun with others.

2) Develop the habit of exercising regularly

Regular physical activity balances the nervous system and increases blood circulation, which helps flush out stress hormones. Even walking 20 minutes a day can make a difference.

3) Control your diet and reduce your alcohol intake

Alcohol, nicotine, and caffeine may temporarily relieve stress, but have negative health effects and are not a great way to deal with stress in the long run. A well-nourished body is better at coping with stress, and a good day starts with a good breakfast, eating plenty of organic fruits and vegetables, avoiding processed foods and sugar, and drinking plenty of water.

4) Connect with friends who support you

Talking face-to-face with another person releases stress-reducing hormones. You can count on friends in your life who are willing to listen.

5) Take time off

Do you enjoy gardening, reading, listening to music or some other creative hobby? Engage in activities that bring you pleasure; studies show this cuts stress by nearly half and lowers your heart rate.

6) Practice meditation or yoga

Relaxation techniques activate a state of tranquility in the body. Consider taking a mindfulness-based stress reduction class to learn the skills for effective, lasting stress reduction.

7) Get enough sleep

If you sleep less than seven to eight hours, your body won't be able to handle the stress. If stress keeps you awake at night, address the source of the problem and add extra meditation to your day.

8) Consult a consultant, coach or therapist

If negative thoughts overwhelm your ability to make positive changes, it's time to seek professional help. Make an appointment today - your health and life should be taken seriously.
