Toilet paper and faucet water with great differences in Taidan culture
Recently, a college student from Taiwan came to Denmark as an exchange student. He happened to be in the school where Danielson used to go to graduate school, so he was barely considered a school girl. The aunt of this elementary school girl has been following Danielson's FB fan school, and a while ago She privately messaged me, mentioned that this niece was going to be an exchange student in Denmark, and asked some simple questions. As a result, she privately messaged me the day after the primary school girl arrived in Copenhagen, and said hello very politely, simple and self-conscious. introduce.
In fact, over the years, some parents have contacted Danielson through FB because their children or juniors are coming to Denmark to study and live (I feel like I'm about to become a little Taiwanese dad in Copenhagen, haha), I'm glad they trust me, although I am not a very social person, but as long as I have a question, I will answer it if I know it, and if I can help, I will also help. The need for someone to help, is the so-called go out to rely on friends, people are not close relatives.
Everyone in a new environment will always face new challenges. After all, life, culture, and customs are different. Even in the same country, there may be cultural differences in the place where you live. , not to mention going abroad, there are many different places.
From Taiwan to Denmark, these are two almost completely different worlds. Eastern and Western cultures are inherently different. All clothing, food, housing, transportation, recreation and entertainment must be somewhat different, so when you encounter something you have never experienced before, you will There will be so-called "culture shock".
A few days ago, this elementary school girl asked Danielson two questions. One is, is the toilet paper here all in rolls? Is there any place to find square toilet paper like Taiwan? Although I know that Taiwan should not be found here. The kind of checkered toilet paper, but suddenly, I realized that I never seem to think about this problem, it should be that I have lived abroad for too long, and I have long been used to these two or three things in daily life, I have never seen toilet paper like Taiwan in foreign countries, although I have not traveled all over the world, but that kind of square toilet paper seems to be only available in Taiwan??
The reason my elementary school girl asks is because she finds toilet paper rolls difficult to use, she's not used to it, but I've never had such a problem, and I can't remember if I had the same question when I first came to America, but In my memory, I seem to be following the customs when I enter the country, and I have never had any doubts about the toilet paper, but now I think the toilet paper roll is better to use!
In addition, when it comes to toilet paper, there is another thing related to toilet paper that is very different from Taiwan and Denmark, that is, in Taiwanese homes, there is usually a trash can in the bathroom to throw away used toilet paper, but this is not the case in other countries in the world. I don't seem to have seen it, at least I haven't seen it in so many countries I have been to. The toilet paper we usually use is thrown directly into the toilet, and then flushed together.
I used to be used to throwing it in the trash can in Taiwan. I never thought it was a strange thing before I went abroad, and I never knew that only Taiwan would do this. Now, when I go back to Taiwan for vacation, I am not used to it. The act of throwing used toilet paper in the trash can actually feel a little weird when you see it.
Elementary school girl's second question is "Is it true that her roommate told her that the water from the faucet can be directly drunk when it is turned on?" Yes, that is true, but she felt uncomfortable because she said she found the faucet turned on There seems to be a layer of grease on the surface of the water, but I can't answer this, because the water from the taps in our house and most places doesn't feel like there is grease in it, but I'm sure that we all Just open it and drink it, even the water from the faucet in the bathroom can be drunk.
So I can only tell her, maybe it is because the water here is hard water, and the water in Taiwan is soft water. If you are really not used to it, then use the Taiwanese method and drink it after boiling. In addition, I also reminded her that if you really want to drink the water from the tap, you can only drink the cold side. The hot part cannot be drunk directly, even if it is warm, so the Danes always turn the tap on before drinking water. Open it, let the water run, and test the water temperature with your finger to make sure it is completely cold, or even a little cold before drinking.
In fact, most of the water in European and American countries can be drunk directly after opening the faucet. I am really used to this, but when I go back to Taiwan, I will still buy water or boil it before drinking it, but in Denmark , If you cannot accept the water from the direct drinking water tap, then you can only drink it after the room is cool. Otherwise, if you want to go to the convenience store to buy water anytime, anywhere like in Taiwan, your wallet will really hurt, because here Water really isn't cheap, we'd all joke that water in Denmark is more expensive than wine!
Although Danielson's own research is related to culture, when this elementary school girl asked me about toilet paper, I really didn't think about it, but it is indeed an interesting question, and I can only talk about culture. There is no so-called logic and reason, and it cannot be explained, because a culture is a group of people agreeing to a thing or action that is accustomed to, there is no so-called right or wrong, and because of this, I will now suggest that everyone try to throw it away. Open up subjective consciousness and concepts, so that you will have a broader mind to accept and learn new things, and it will be possible to live a happier life. Otherwise, you will always use your own established concepts, ideas or living habits in a new Where to live, there may be many angry, complaining and unhappy times every day.
Of course, everyone is different, and not everyone has to accept it, but if you can try new things with open-mind, I think it will only be beneficial. Anyway, if you try it, don't do it if you don't like it. Just like eating something, you will know whether you like it or not, but if you are limited by your existing subjective consciousness, you may lose many interesting or beautiful things and delicacies! Sometimes get out of your comfort zone and let yourself Try something new that doesn't usually appear in your life, and you might discover a brave new world too.
