Speaking of digital (note-taking) tools , the most commonly used software currently are Notion, Agenga and XMind. The main application scenarios are team collaboration, personal to-do items and reading notes. Today I am specifically sharing about the latter, which is the mind map application XMind.

■ XMind and books

When I encounter a book that I like (and is particularly difficult to read), I have a habit of adding a procedure of "opening the book" ( deconstructing a book ). Imagine the feeling of watching a crime drama and the detective nailing the interpersonal relationship to the wall... except that what I pinned was not the mug shot, but the arguments in the book. After understanding, I disassembled it, and after I conceived it, I constructed it again .

In view of the need to lay out the "jigsaw puzzle" in a row on the table, take a comprehensive view of the overall situation, and then slowly "assemble" it back together to reverse engineer the writing context . Put aside the open " sandbox " of Notion for the time being, abandon the creation of a two-way link database, and use XMind's ease of use.

■ XMind and mood transition

My XMind operating environment is on an iPad, where I sometimes type on the keyboard and sometimes move around with touch (it feels like a "puzzle"). After using it for a period of time, my state of mind has also changed. If I use the four swords of Dugu Qiubai as an analogy, the process is as follows:

• Purple Microsoft Sword
  There were people on the market who were willing to buy out the pictures I made , so they paid to upgrade Xmind's "Shuo Jian Gun Li". From then on, I became obsessed with how to make the mind map more gorgeous, like an emperor (Ziwei Emperor Star).
• Dark Iron Heavy Sword <br class="smart">The heavy sword has no edge and is ingenious but not workmanlike. At this time, there were fewer and fewer "sentences" in Xmind notes, and the proportion of "keywords" and "pictures" was gradually increased. I also hoped that "one sword can conquer the world" and all notes, briefings, speeches, and meetings can be handled in one place. See the description of multitasking mind maps for details.

In the past, I would really want to "take all" and take away all the knowledge (in the book), so I wrote densely packed notes, but I don't do that anymore ( I'm afraid! Is this laziness? ); I only briefly outline them. Come up with a few big frameworks and thinking points , then close the book and start typing on the keyboard while thinking about it, turning it into an article.

■ Pain points of XMind

Perhaps inspired by reading " Card Box Notes ", I hope that hyperlinks can be inserted into XMind, whether they are "internal links" for cross-reference of finished products or "external links" for connecting online data, so that each project can be like a nerve. Like synapses , there is an opportunity to break down barriers between each other. Don’t be greedy for more, just connect one-way first (laughs).

I also hope that one day it will become a rotten wooden sword. I am no longer limited to (note-taking) tools. A piece of paper and a pen can work well. I internalize (mind map) into a set of thinking models. No sword is better than having a sword. territory.
