As a creator, who doesn’t want to become famous? It would be really great if more people could see the concept of our creation. However, the overwhelming pressure that comes after becoming famous, and the lack of clear boundaries that lead to the overwhelming amount of work that floods life, are suffocating.
Is it really good to be famous? If you don’t have enough resistance to pressure, will you fall down? And if life goes astray due to extravagance, will it deviate from the original intention of creation?
This week’s selected articles will take you to find out.
Creator's dilemma: When "popularity" knocks on the door, will you open the door?
🔸 Why do Japanese people like to buy books in bookstores?
🔸 Analysis of Internet celebrity Huma’s apology video 🔸 The constraints of character management 🔸 Do dialogue creations also need to consider character design?
🔸 What’s the next move after becoming famous?
🔸 Deconstructing the secrets of excellent compliments 🔸 The essence of freedom of attention 🌍 Matters article recommendation curation 🌍 Information: Creators love to read 🌍 Tools: Creators and Digital Life🌍 Supplement: Creator Economy and Web3
❏Taiwanese people can’t figure it out! Why do Japanese people still buy books in physical bookstores? Fighting the E-commerce Behemoth by Ben Sang Japan Talk
The pricing of Japanese publishing houses stipulates that the same price must be set in any channel for sale , which makes consumers more inclined to buy books in physical bookstores (because they can be taken away immediately and have beautiful packaging).
⠀In Japan, all publications are sent from the publishing house to the logistics provider (the logistics provider between the publishing house and the bookstore). The publication is sorted by the logistics provider and shipped to the designated bookstore. The existence of subtitles helps small publishing houses survive because they do not have to send books to booksellers themselves, which can significantly reduce shipping costs.
⠀Each publishing house will sign a separate "Resale Price Maintenance Contract" with Qici, who will then sign the same contract with the e-commerce channel or bookstore. If an e-commerce or bookstore is caught not selling according to the set price, it will have to pay high liquidated damages and be restricted from purchasing goods in the future.
Hugo 🙋 IMO: The e-commerce offers are so sweet and hard to resist
Rules determine the shape of the market. I believe there are many people in Taiwan who want to support small publishers or independent bookstores, but sometimes the discounts offered by e-commerce are too exciting XD
Reading pen farming 🙋 IMO: book pricing system
This video was released on the eve of the Double 11 Shopping Festival, which reminded me of the "collective closure" incident of independent bookstores in Taiwan a few years ago, which caused an uproar.
In order to protect domestic cultural industries, South Korea, Japan, and Germany have been promoting "book pricing systems" for many years. Interested readers may wish to use this keyword for further reading.
❏Apologetic video for marijuana incident by Joeman
Reading Pengeng🙋 IMO: How should I say a public apology statement?
I don’t usually follow the videos of Joeman (who is neither a fan nor a hater), but I would like to pay attention to the different ways in which different creators respond when a public relations crisis occurs.
In the opening paragraph, Joeman first made a distinction between the "facts" reported by the media - not opinions - which ones are true vs. which ones are false. He mentioned that he has not used marijuana for a long time, which can be tested. So might as well let the bullets fly a little longer.
The middle section is an almost 100% unconditional apology, without any excuses or reasons .
If you want to examine it strictly, he once said, "Even if I face a lot of pressure when creating...". Although the word "pressure" is mentioned here, it seems to imply that this is the reason for smoking marijuana, but the next sentence immediately says that this is a wrong behavior, and does not mean to continue to spread the cheek.
In addition to once again apologizing to the public, the last paragraph also specifically addressed the mother of the "person I care about" (filial piety is touching, heart-warming appeal), saying that he is not a perfect person (the mention of the word "perfect" will make the listener reflect that he is not A perfect man), but a son who knows his mistakes and is willing to correct them.
Conclusion, when we are about to issue a public apology text:
Don't look for reasons and excuses (avoid using the "I was wrong, but..." sentence pattern) (required).
People you care about (filial piety moves heaven, warm appeal) (optional).
Not optional.
Sincerely correct (required).
Hugo 🙋 IMO: The implication of "imperfection"
Seeing the word "imperfect" in the statement made my antennae go up.
Once upon a time, this word has been frequently used in various apology statements. Regardless of the severity of the crime, this word reminds the reader: Are you perfect? If you are not perfect, why can you accuse me like this?
Yes, although none of us are perfect, we have not committed any crime, and the fact is that none of us will be perfect in the first place. So saying this is not only equivalent to not saying it, but it even reminds people of whether the person who made the statement is There is an attempt to influence the situation and arouse the sympathy of the listener.
❏From Yu Hua’s master class: telling the creative process of "Alive" by Baoyu
Whether you are engaged in writing or in other industries, how to move yourself forward, sometimes you have to put down the things you love most and are most proficient in. What I mean by letting go is not to abandon it, because it is very likely that you will take it back after a few years. As long as it belongs to you, it will always follow you and it will never leave. It's just that you need different things at different times.
Reading Pen Geng 🙋 IMO: It’s not about abandoning, it’s about letting go
Yu Hua began publishing novels in 1984 and is a representative figure of avant-garde novels in mainland China. If you are a creator who is writing stories, this masterclass (verbatim draft) is worth watching.
Knowledge points that can be put into practice immediately. Yu Hua mentioned that "writing dialogue" is a great test for a creator . So how should it be written? The main premise is that "the character must be consistent with his identity and knowledge structure" and the reader's general cognition. For example, an old farmer will not speak like a university professor.
In addition to talking about writing, I also talk about life. The master pointed out that we (writing and life) need different media at different times, so you may have to "let go" some things that you are already familiar with and love. He particularly emphasized that it is not "abandonment" , because it is already your internalization and will not disappear. Maybe after a few years, you will awaken it again.
❏Why have many millions of Internet celebrities recently quit the platform and stopped updating? Otherwise, something went wrong? by Zen's current affairs commentary
The secret of character management is to provide the same content repeatedly to attract interested people to watch and become fans.
Looking at it from another perspective, every time a representative posts, he or she is consolidating the persona and strengthening the cycle.
⠀This will cause a problem. The speaker cannot change the position of the discussion. Even if he no longer agrees or believes in that set of things, or even screwed up long ago, he continues to write/film for the sake of business and traffic.
Hugo 🙋 IMO: The best personality is to be yourself
A character is an image that can be set. Although it is powerful, if you are caught violating the original setting, the damage you will suffer will be terrible. You just need to imagine how angry you will be when you are deceived, and this anger × the number of fans will be the pressure you will receive in the future.
After understanding how important it is to maintain the "consistency" of the character image, I believe that the safest and most reliable way to manage the character image is to be true to yourself! This way there is no need to deliberately create a character.
Reading pengong 🙋 IMO: The business content is relatively practical
Managing "content consistency" is more practical than managing "character consistency". Please see the discussion in the next article.
❏Don’t pursue fame - it will be better to become famous later by Siddharam
If you have tasted the feeling of becoming famous, it will be painful if you pursue it again and again but cannot get it. Because the day you become famous is the highest point of your life. After accidentally becoming famous, it's okay to slowly fade away. If you continue to want to be famous, you will definitely receive a lot of attention.
⠀For most of us, just an unintentional word from a friend can affect the whole day. What if the number of comments we receive increases hundreds of times? As long as a moderately famous internet celebrity receives more reviews in a whole year, they may exceed the sum total of an average person's lifetime... These massive reviews do not end with humbly accepting them and not caring about them.
⠀If you don't take advantage of this to skyrocket, every day after becoming famous will feel like you are retreating. If you really want to become famous, maybe it would be better to become famous later. Only when you are strong and healthy physically and mentally can you endure the side effects of becoming popular and wait until the moment of harvest comes.
Hugo 🙋 IMO: Age is not the key to judging stress resistance
There is a point in this article that I do not completely agree with. The article mentioned:
Therefore, we often see celebrities going to the psychosomatic department, including Adi, Guji, and even Zhiqi Qiqi, who only had plastic surgery, but then wrote an apology because of the pressure. If you are still young, under 30 or 20 years old, can you bear to receive such a large number of comments?
Such a discussion equates age with stress resistance, but we all know that is not the case.
In fact, we must have all met children who are much older than us, but react like helpless children when encountering pressure; however, we have also seen our peers of similar age reacting to huge pressures that we have never thought of. In times of disaster, he can cope with it calmly.
There may be some relationship between stress resistance and age, but I don’t think there is an inevitable or strong correlation. If misunderstood, two problems will arise:
Let yourself fall into a fixed mindset and believe that you must reach a certain age to be good at stress tolerance.
It is easy to look down on people who are younger than oneself; to pay too much attention to those who are older than oneself. And the actions made under this concept can actually be felt by others.
Reading pen farming 🙋 IMO
Previously, in the 18th issue of the weekly report , we discussed that the difficulty in creation lies in maintaining "consistency". On the one hand, it is the commitment to the frequency of updates, and also the sense of stability of the theme/atmosphere/format .
Stand firm, and the quality of each update will be above the average level, without sudden ups and downs, or sudden changes in style. This way, you will be ready for explosive hits (critical hits) and avoid becoming a flash in the pan.
Under this premise, whether it becomes popular earlier or later is not the key point.
❏Make your compliments sound more advanced by Counseling Psychologist Xu Tingshao
Many compliments sound hollow, often because our compliments are too superficial and fail to connect to the other person's sense of self-worth.
NLP (Mind-Linguistic Programming) believes that people classify external information into hierarchies, called "levels of understanding."
If you can lift your compliments to a person by several levels, it will sound deeper and more touching to the other person's ears.
Reading pengong🙋 IMO: a collection of praises
This post mentioned the levels of praise. I think it’s a bit too much to talk about it in five levels. Let’s look at it in three levels. Imagine a concentric circle. The outermost layer is things, the middle layer is achievements, and the core is content. Layers are traits.
The more "sweetheart" praise is, the more it can explore a person's characteristics, and it feels like Bole has found a thousand-mile horse .
Praise can also be a non-verbal action, as well as praise techniques, how to respond to praise, etc. For details, please see this " Complete Praise " extended reading.
❏Affluence and Freedom: The Traps of Success by Nissen
I tend to think that people with more free time are generally more knowledgeable, whereas busier people are likely to be ignorant about a lot of things.
⠀As you move up (whether it's changing to a job with a higher salary, being promoted in your original company, or even developing your personal career), your work will only make you busier and busier, and you will have to spend a lot of time solving problems. Some problems are "artificially defined/created" by others, rather than the things that you are really curious about or important.
⠀In short, secular achievements are two sides of the same coin. It attracts more attention and opportunities to you, but it also grabs more attention from the person involved.
Reading pengong 🙋 IMO: The true meaning of freedom of attention
Financial freedom is not something you can achieve overnight, but you can start right away by consciously freeing up room in your daily life and pursuing "attention freedom."
The pursuit of "attention freedom" does not mean that we should take a break from our busy schedule or stop working. What it really means is to leave time for ourselves without mundane things every day, so that we can focus and freely explore topics that interest us deeply .
When you encounter a really important problem, you don't let anything else become the center of your attention - you focus your thoughts on the problem. Keep your subconscious mind hungry so it can solve your problems so you can sleep peacefully and be free to have answers in the morning.
Hugo 🙋 IMO: Alternative thinking about the Peter Principle
The "Peter Principle" means that in the hierarchy of an organization or company, a person will be promoted to a high-level position that he is not qualified for due to certain characteristics or special skills, and eventually become an obstacle to the organization (redundant) and Negative equity.
Suppose you enter the workplace and after being promoted to a higher position, you have to spend more time on things that you think are unimportant, resulting in a lack of free space. From another perspective, if the ability is not enough to cope with various challenges, the "Peter Principle" has been fulfilled, but if you are moved to a more relaxed position and gain more freedom of concentration, it is not a bad thing.

❏Looking for human traces in the AI era by @ GangGe
We have lost the ability of public discourse in the television age, the status of rigorous knowledge in the Internet age, and the interaction of physical communication in the social media age.
⠀People can't help but ask: In the 21st century where AI is the dominant force, what abilities will humans lose? What can AI gain from humans?
❏ 1000 true fans: The bodhisattva with a pig head and a nose by @ckxpress
If you are a serious creator but no one appreciates your work, you will:
A: Change the style, route or creative medium in order to cater to public taste?
B: By accumulating and organizing works, interacting with audiences, promoting, and selling, are you working harder to find close friends?
Reading pengong 🙋 IMO: Lock in your "incarnation"
The biggest inspiration this article brings to me is that "keeping an open mind and listening to everything" is not necessarily a panacea. .
Changing things around based on other people's opinions before locking in your personal characteristics is not listening, it means you haven't found your own characteristics yet.
After a period of operation, the creator may be "stuck" somewhere and need to seek advice. It is impossible for creators to cater to the opinions of all followers, so you need to identify which of these followers are cheerleaders and which are buyers who will really support you with actions (wallets). Only feedback from buyers is the critical opinion.
Buyers call them "incarnations" in " Ordinary People's Ways to Financial Freedom ". The author also shares in the book how he does a "proof of concept" to evaluate each new attempt and how many true fans are willing to pay. , recommended reading.
