This issue introduces a recently read book and 5 self-funded articles. Not robot generated, but not painstaking work either.

Editor's note: The Lidong issue, which has been disrupted by the sudden inspiration, has finally been born. This issue, like the first issue, introduces a recently read book and 5 articles that are supported by self-funded. Because this time, there are definitely not only 5 articles supported, but mainly new authors or lesser-known authors on Matters. Some articles that they support are based on the fact that the author already has a large readership in Matt City, and it is easy to be ignored when choosing. , please forgive me.

good book introduction

Emine Fidan Elcioglu, Divided by the Wall: Progressive and Conservative Immigration Politics at the US-Mexico Border . Oakland: University of California Press, 2020.

Political Sociology Ethnography. The book is based on an analysis of five (radical) social movement groups on the U.S.-Mexico border -- including three that can be defined as restrictionist activism and two pro-immigration activism groups -- A closer look at the ideology, perceptions, and strategies of action on both sides of the immigration debate in the United States. The author's ultimate goal is to show the confrontation between the two camps on undocumented immigrants. The writing is very fluent and is especially recommended for those interested in US immigration policy, race and immigration studies, social movements and state relations, and even US polarization issues. people.

This book proposes a concept: ambiguous border. Of course the US-Mexico border is solid, but it is ambiguous in the minds of people of different positions, and every radical group in Elcioglu's writings is basically based on this concept (p.32). For example, for restrictive activists against undocumented immigration, a "border" that does not enforce immigration laws is the weakness of the state; but the same "border" is viewed by pro-immigrant activists as a state Exercising its power does not use its power humanely to oppress symbols of hopeless and unwelcome immigrants. (Voice of Innocent Wall Mystery: I am too difficult.)

Elcioglu is a professor at the Institute of Sociology at the University of Toronto, and this book is her doctoral dissertation. Elcioglu is my favorite/favorite professor(?), this book is an English book I read purely for wanting to read since I went back to school, not for class discussion, final report, dissertation research, I have been doing this before The idea of writing a formal academic book review submission, but sociology is still a very unfamiliar field to me, and it is difficult to write why.

The picture below is the wall described in the book. On the left of the wall is the state of Sonora in Mexico, and on the right is the state of Arizona in the United States (it turns out that there is a wall).

Matt City's Personal Anthology (2021.11.1-21)

(The so-called editor's recommendation is just a reason for my personal support , not a real review, please don't take it too seriously.)

@ Outsiders Roma -Walking on the way home (Part 1)

The editor regrets missing the recommendation | a masterpiece of non-fiction writing, showing the country of Roma and Romania between the lines. Traveling in Europe we're always told to stay away from Roma, but Roma aren't just cheating you out of money at the station, they're stories of centuries of displacement. I traveled in Romania for a long time before, and I missed Onesti because I changed the itinerary temporarily. I always wanted to go but couldn’t go again, so I am very happy to have this article.

Please remember that there is another episode .

@Magnolia Different Christmas Songs: Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence

The editor is a biased recommendation | Although the event should not be biased, I really like this article, and the whole text is eloquent. The moment I said "Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence!", my heart twitched.

@阿川 I heard that your article was criticized for being illogical again, but what is logic?

Editor's repeated recommendation | I know I have recommended it, but I would like to recommend it again. What I didn't mention last time: There are really many tips on how to make the article look more logical in this article, and I think anyone who wants to participate in the Matt City writing program should really read it!

@Sandie Sunday compose music for life│I like the sound of running

Editor's recommendation for running | This article perfectly integrates the sound of running and the experience of a run, as if I ran with it (and didn't). Sometimes I will say that running is an ego thing, and you can talk to yourself during the running process, but this article takes running to another realm, where runners talk to all things in the universe, and just when we thought the author enjoyed it so much When running, it turns out that these are all memories, how embarrassing? (Go home now!)

@ Slow Living Forest Valley Community Activities|Stories of Voices: The Screams on the Streets of Hong Kong That Year

The editor also wants to shout and recommend | I remember that in 2019, I heard Hong Kong office workers shed tears when they gathered in Central on the way to buy bento to shout for the liberation of Hong Kong and the revolution of the times; when I heard middle school students sing Do You Hear the People Sing in unison at the Korean assembly, they also shed tears. Tears were shed; I couldn't stop the tears when I heard a girl sitting in the atrium of a school shouting "Your siblings are drowned, don't you feel heartache?" after Chen Yanlin's body was found. Of course, when I read this article, I shed tears again.

There was no way to leave a message under the broadcast around the furnace, so the second issue of the weekly newspaper was moved to the text and published. I originally considered whether to add the introduction of the film and television series, but it seemed to be too long.

Welcome to Iok trackers or other Matt citizens to join Iok , feel free to support under any of the articles of the vulgar girl (you can customize 5 LikeCoins or any other numbers, etc.), and leave a message to claim a free year Invitation letter will do. Finally, I welcome the members of the furnace to leave a message to let me know if you like this new theme, and what else do you expect?
