There is a famous saying in the movie "Conquering the Sea of Love" : "You conquered me as soon as you open your mouth." This was the case when I first met Fengyu Bingguo Shi.
“You had me at “hello” is the famous quotes from movie “Jerry Maguire” . And that's exactly what I felt at the moment I was entering Fong Yu shaved Ice Store for the fist time.
That day I ordered honey bean ice, my wife ordered ice lemon juice, honey bean ice plate, lemon juice cup, old words "lotus seed soup" on the counter wall, wooden benches, and even the temple upstairs (yes, there is a palace temple upstairs) ).
I ordered pickled sweet fruits served on shaved ice and my wife ordered icy lemon juice that day.
The plate, the cup, the old words of ads on the wall, the chair and even the temple up stair made me fell for the store.
Feel the 60-year history of the ice shop, and quickly fell in love with it.
The sixty years old shaved ice store was so charming that I couldn't help to fall in love with it.
Later in the summer, we came to eat Haomai Mango diced mango ice cream, different from the beautiful mango ice cream around the mango ice cream in the beautiful photos posted on the travel guide in downtown Taipei.
The mango ice here only has large diced mangoes, slightly flavored condensed milk and sugar water. The store specially adjusted it to not be so sweet, so that people who eat mango ice can clearly taste the seasonal mango flavor, which is sour, sweet, and authentic. The fresh fruit taste reflects the mango condition of the season.
We had the other sweet ice on their menu in later years.
Taiwanese mango served on shaved ice is absolutely extraordinary among others that the big chopped mango served with less-sweet syrup and a little condensed milk makes the original flavor of Taiwanese mango stood out.
Don't be fooled by glamour photos about over-sweet mango ice by other ice store. That's for tourists guides not for real foodie.
The red bean milk ice here is also different. Finally, the red beans are topped with bright candied red beans. The red beans are first placed on the first layer of ice, then put on a layer of shaved ice, and topped with condensed milk. It is not conducive to the IG culture of taking pictures and then eating. When the ice water gradually melts to the lower layer of red beans, the red beans have interacted with the inner layer of ice for a period of time, and the flavor is naturally different.
They served shaved ice with sweet red beans and condensed milk unlike others. They put a layer of shaved ice then the sweet red beans then another layer of shaved ice and a little condensed milk on the top.
Without sweet red beans outside the sweet, it's not so colorful for Instagram but it's more delicious as the ice melting with sweet red beans inside.
As for the lotus seed soup simmered in a large pot and low heat, it is a dessert that can cool off the heat and also lasts into autumn and winter. After the falling leaves season, there are more surprises worth exploring.
They also served sweet soup with lotus seeds which is a great sweet delight for all seasons.
