Book Review•Book Review|If Mirrors Can Really Connect Life and Death🪞
These past few weeks have been ups and downs, and a lot of things have happened around me. I have suddenly lost the motivation to write. I have given up reading more and more books, but the pile of books I have read is getting higher and higher, but I seem to have no way to review the books. One of the reasons why I feel like taking action is that the number of deaths among relatives, friends and neighbors has suddenly increased recently.
Although birth, old age, illness and death are normal, and no one can help it if they don't want to accept it, this feeling of "sneaking into the night with the wind, moisturizing things silently" is still very scary when you think about it carefully. I just read a sentence in a book that said that the most terrifying thing is actually the fear of death, not death itself. I wonder, isn’t this sentence very famous? That makes perfect sense.
The turbulence in my mind was not over, but my body was also falling down. I had been gradually happy after not being sick for several months, but now I fell ill in bed again, very speechless. I was just getting better today, and while I was sweating, I thought of a book related to life and death.
I read this book in Amsterdam. This book is very thick, especially when I first read it. It felt boring. I felt resentful because I didn’t know what was going on. I didn’t understand what I was doing with such a heavy book on my trip. I even thought about it. Forget about leaving the books in Amsterdam. However, I still didn’t give up reading.
The story is a bit fantasy, about a child who suddenly discovered that he could go to a castle through the mirror in his room. In the castle, he also met several other children, who also came through the mirror in the room. The castle is run by a girl with a wolf mask and they are asked to find the key and then there are some rules that cannot be broken and so on. Each of the children has their own life background and mental journey, and they are more or less struggling between completing the task and forgetting about it.
In the end, of course, several children successfully completed the task after a heart-warming struggle. At this time, the protagonist of the story discovered that the girl in the castle in the mirror turned out to be his dead sister. My sister died of a terminal illness before completing her studies. Her biggest wish was to be accompanied to school. Therefore, after her death, she even arranged such a mirror castle to "accompany" her lonely siblings.
In fact, the magic of mirrors has been reflected in books at home and abroad throughout the ages and is nothing new. But I thought, why a mirror🪞? My own thinking is that people's fear of life and death can be reduced to a large extent by their strong awareness of the existence of their body, hair and skin, and the mirror, as a reflection of our image, can play an important role in this process, so, Objects that reflect our images are gradually endowed with magic and become carriers of fantasy .
There are many stories about mirrors, this is just one of them.
