First, why do we need theology if we have faith?

A: Theology is necessary to defend belief. Theology is to ensure that the truth of religion is systematic, relying on the knowledge system to ensure that even if there is no human authority, the truth is still clear. This is the inner reason why religion has to develop theology.

Second, what did Augustine contribute to his position as the chief theologian of Christianity?

A: At that time, Manichaeism questioned Christianity: If God is omniscient, omnipotent, omnipotent, and good, then he also created evil? If so, then he is not all good, and if not, where does evil come from?

Augustine hits back at Manichaeism with "Illuminatiology," explaining what evil is all about. In addition, Augustine also proposed the "predestination theory": that is, everything is pre-determined by God, and Augustine used it to solve the problem between the omnipotence of God and the fate of man.

Third, how did his vision of the demise of the Roman Empire reshape the West and lead the Middle Ages down the road?

A: Augustine put forward the "two cities theory": the city of God and the city on earth.

Augustine told Westerners when Rome was about to be destroyed that secular politics and spiritual life are two different things, the former is not important, the latter is important. Since Augustine, the West, unlike all civilizations, has been divided into two, one secular and one spiritual.

●Tips for class: Only when there is a system can we attract the beliefs of intellectuals, and only when there are intellectuals' beliefs can we have a more complete system!
