Stinky tofu stinks? Think about it another way
The night market is the favorite of Taiwanese, because there are all kinds of Taiwanese favorite snacks in the night market. For a Taiwanese wandering far away from home, if you ask him/her what he/she misses most about Taiwan? Apart from family and friends, maybe eight out of ten will answer Taiwanese. Food and snacks, right?! It’s really hard to rank Taiwan’s food and snacks, but if you ask what the famous Taiwanese snacks are, stinky tofu should not escape, right? Does anyone agree on this? At least Danielson really loves stinky tofu, And stinky tofu is definitely at the top of my list.
Whenever Taiwanese have foreign friends visiting, many of them will take foreign friends to the night market to experience the beauty of Taiwan's night market, and many people will definitely invite foreign friends to eat stinky tofu, right?!
But when foreigners don't know what it is, once we translate it into English "stinky tofu", they will probably have retreated when they hear it, and then walk into the night market. If there is a stinky tofu stall, they should have smelled it in the distance. We Taiwanese think it is the unique smell of fragrant fragrance. The most adjectives that foreigners hear about the smell of stinky tofu are nothing more than stinky water ditch and the smell of stool. What other adjectives do you hear?
Every time I introduce stinky tofu to foreigners, if you have been to Taiwan and know stinky tofu, most of the first reactions are "short---- oil----", and also add facial disgust (of course, I have met foreigners who like stinky tofu very much, I can only say that they are very special, they should have been Taiwanese in their predecessors), I heard this kind of unpleasant answer before, I always felt that they did not understand the delicacy of the world, and they must be Tell them that "your cheese is stinky, and it's more like poop", and they always wonder why they don't understand something so delicious? And try to convince them that stinky tofu is stinky and delicious!
Thinking about it after many years, in fact, each of us has too strong subjective consciousness. Just like the gourmet cheese they like, many people think that it is very stinky, especially blue cheese (of course, many people think that cheese is very stinky. Delicious and loving).
Mr. Mai and Mama Mai love cheese very much, especially blue cheese. Every time you buy this blue cheese, it is incredible. You can smell the feces for thousands of miles. I smelled a strong "stuffed smell", and then after cutting the knife, the chopping board was glued to the kitchen, and the stench couldn't be dissipated for a long time. It was suffocating. I don't know why anyone likes it. Eat moldy stuff? And especially like something so stinky?
Every time I'm near a cheese shop, I can smell all the different cheese odors combined and add to the stink, just like foreigners describe our stinky tofu as poop, think about it, we treat them Isn't the reaction of the cheese similar to their reaction to the stinky tofu? But when we hear it, we feel that they don't know the product, but when we encounter the cheese, we also criticize one, but have we? Thought it was one of their favorite foods?
People have different cultures and concepts because of different growth environments, so they usually have very subjective negative criticisms about things they are not familiar with or are not used to. Maybe this is what makes cultural customs cute and attractive, right?
After visiting many different countries, I began to realize that we need to try our best to break the inherent subjective consciousness in our minds, and open our minds to see different people, things, and things. For any new thing, you can still dislike it, but hold on to it. Hold the heart that is willing to try (of course, not everything will be brave to try), after trying it, you can show that you don't like it, but you don't need to react strongly to express dissatisfaction or disgust.
If you ask me if it stinks? I will still answer super stinky, but if you ask me if stinky tofu is stinky? In fact, it is really stinky, but we grew up eating, so the stinky has become fragrant!
