Will we eat better?
After leaving Guangdong, whenever I go out to eat and see rice rolls on the menu, I get a little bit excited and order them right away.
While waiting for the rice rolls to be served, I couldn't help but feel my mouth watering. Every second seemed like a year! Finally, the waiter brought the steaming plates of rice rolls to the table. At that moment, I couldn't help but excitedly picked up my chopsticks, ready to welcome this long-awaited delicacy.
As soon as you bite into it, the slippery rice roll melts in your mouth instantly, accompanied by the rich rice aroma and delicious filling. It is really delicious! It felt like I was back on the streets of Qingyuan, Guangdong, tasting this familiar taste with my family.
However, what is interesting to me is that when I was in Guangdong, I never seemed to pay special attention to rice rolls, maybe because it is so common there! But now, when I leave my hometown, I find that I miss it deeply.
During the epidemic, when I couldn't eat out, I started trying to make rice rolls myself. Although I couldn’t find authentic Cantonese rice roll wrappers, I did find a package of Vietnamese spring roll wrappers, which turned out to be made from rice too! This makes me very happy because it means I can try to make my own rice rolls.
I slowly soaked the spring roll wrapper in water until soft, then filled it with beef filling and chopped green onion, then steamed it. Although there were some twists and turns during the production process, the final product tasted satisfying!
In the process of making rice rolls, I also recalled many beautiful memories of my hometown. Those times of tasting delicious food with my family are really unforgettable:
When you walk into a small restaurant in the countryside, you will see an old chef busy next to a big iron pot. The chef gently pours the rice milk into the pot and gently spreads the rice milk on the iron pot to form a thin layer of rice roll skin. Then, he quickly spread the meat elk and green onion evenly on the rice roll wrapper, then rolled up the rice roll rolls with his skillful hands and stacked them one by one on the plate.
After the epidemic, although I no longer have to go through all the trouble to make homemade rice rolls, the experience made me feel that I was eating well.
Today, I heard that many restaurants use pre-made dishes. I wonder if rice rolls can also be pre-made? But will I feel better about eating?
