Recommended books and movies | Lie flat and let the words flow from your body

In July, I finished reading "Ulysses", which was a big thing in my heart. I also read a lot of comics and picture books related to fun and games. After a long hiatus from theaters, I finally watched several plays, talk shows, and lectures. I thought I try to write more words but it is difficult to overcome the exhaustion of social life. I want to go out to play but never go out. I have to check my mobile phone keys and mask before going out. After the physical examination, I feel uncomfortable looking at the report sheet. The sunset when I come home every day is beautiful. The following are my book and movie recommendations for July. Some of them were not rated as five-stars when they were originally rated, but I am still willing to recommend them.

"Ulysses"/novel

When I was in graduate school, I opened this black-backed book several times and got stuck on the first chapter. Now I can finally say proudly: "I have finished reading "Ulysses." However, for such a majestic book This is a huge book, and I feel a little guilty after reading it.

When I read it before, in Xiaoxi's words, I "worked too hard" at that time, trying to decipher those biblical references and analyze every sentence. Looking at it now, my brain suddenly connected, I can understand and appreciate various techniques, and I even want to try to write it myself. I found that the way to read this book is to lie flat and let the words flow through the body: the Bible, Irish history, literary mishmash, male-female relations, homophonic jokes... In the most relaxed state, you will see the possibility of literature, a kind of freedom. state. It doesn’t matter if you don’t understand it, just turn it over.

Some favorite contents: Chapter 4, Bloom, a cat lover, Chapter 7, Newspaper-style headlines and chatting with the newspaper office, Chapter 11, Music played by words, Chapter 13, The trick of dual narrative perspectives between classical romance and modern disability, Chapter 14 , the fetus is born together with words, Chapter 15, Shakespeare and Kon Satoshi share the stage for a carnival, Chapter 17, a liberal arts student falls in love with mathematics. Xu Zhimo once praised the unpunctuated last chapter, "lubricated like cheese, as smooth as the stone altar in the church, like a big piece of white cloth hanging upside down, and a big waterfall hanging upside down." It must be said that the poet's perception is advanced of. Mr. Jin Di’s method of using Chinese to interpret English is excellent, and he wanted to see what Xiao Qian and Wen Jieruo’s versions were like.

By the way, people who have read this book will never forget lemon soap and potatoes.

As a digression, I would like to recommend Finnegans Bar to my friends in Nanjing. The owner is an Irishman and the name of the bar comes from another book by Joyce, Finnegans Wake. ‍
"Young Triumph"/Autobiography, History

Regarding the writing from 1966 to 1976, I have always given it "at least four stars. The more people see it, the better." Chen Kaige's memoir of the era is unexpectedly good and deserves five stars.

You can feel the temperament of this book by looking at the catalog: Kingdom of Heaven, Arrival, Group of Buddhas, Crazy Ashes, and Green Mountains. I read a sad passage and sent it to Teacher Y. He asked, "Did he write this when he was young?" Yes, there is always a pair of young eyes behind the whole book, watching the world fall step by step. Entering madness, collectively devouring themselves, and violently beating their consciences. Although I have read many works on this topic, I still gasp every time I see it. Among them, the scene of burning costumes undoubtedly inspired the subsequent filming of "Farewell My Concubine", and the years of educated youth in the mountains of Yunnan added a footnote to "The King of Children".

The first thought that emerged after reading the entire book was how such a transparent young man became what he is now...

"Learning to Fly"/Prose

A small book that makes people smile constantly while reading it.

Books on children's growth records are not uncommon, and children's interests are a common direction. But Zhu Tianxin is really as he said, observing the alliance like an anthropologist, and occasionally pops up a sentence that he can't hold back in the seemingly objective records. He made a joke, sandwiching a ray of the still transparent heart of a mother between the pages of the book: "Apu's mother and I comforted each other more and more: Apu, together, will definitely not be the last two illiterate people in Taipei, right?" !” “(I comforted Mengmeng), if she turns into a crocodile in her next life, I will definitely turn into a female crocodile, and if she turns into a table, I will definitely turn into a mother’s table.”

I am very envious of Mengmeng's living conditions. He is like a little beast, savage and vital, and extremely free. Her growth may provide some inspiration to modern parents (but how many people have the Zhu family's growth environment...).

As an aside, I didn’t read many books by female authors or on gender issues this month. Due to work reasons, I read Marie Curie’s autobiography and the biography written by her daughter. As shown in the picture, there are no almighty goddesses, only tired women.
"Funwan I: Traditional Chinese Puzzle Games"/Traditional Culture

I accidentally saw it in Duozhuyu. It was so interesting. When I caught it, I found it was a signed edition by the author! Peter Lei and his wife Zhang Nian share a passion for collecting and researching traditional Chinese puzzle games, and have traveled throughout China and overseas for many years. The book introduces Jiulianhuan, Tangram, Tangram Table, Luban Lock, Huarong Dao, etc. It also includes the history, gameplay, derivatives, appearance of various collectibles, anecdotes about collections, etc. While reading, I feel like a new door has been opened. of fun windows.

For example, a professor of aviation history wrote a short book called "Scientific Pastime" to introduce Huarong Taoism, and also established the "China Huarong Taoism Research Association"; ancient literati used seven skillful pictures to spell out the full text of "The Biography of Mr. Wuliu"; The veteran craftsmen in Suzhou who make clever rings; Wu Youru's paintings and the text of "Beijing Smoke and Clouds" show the scene of ancient people playing puzzle games; Prince Gong's inscription for "Puzzle Pictures and Thousand-Character Essay"... when I read it I kept recalling that I had seen these things in tourist attractions and some old canteens before. After reading them, I immediately ordered the second series (I will report back after reading them)!

Chopstick basket made of Luban lock structure
I discovered that the Luban Suo with the Six Arts engraved in the book turned out to be the cover prototype of "White-haired A'e and Others" (this is also a book worth recommending)
"Ping Pong"/Comics

I watched a few episodes of the anime earlier, and they were amazing. I finally saw the comic and couldn't stop reading it, I was so addicted to it. A-Bian, Xiaojiang, Little Devil, Long and Kong successfully established five completely different characters in just three volumes. What is important is not the competition that spans two years, but talent, motivation, ideals, The collision of the words hero between self and reality is the ultimate gesture towards freedom and openness. Of course, just watching the game itself is exciting enough.

Matsumoto Taiyo's storyboarding is excellent, especially in capturing the motion. I remember that during the game, a few pages used many more cut-out shots than normal, allowing people to hear the sounds of footsteps scraping the floor, rapid breathing, and the collision of table tennis balls back and forth in the vast stadium. I had a debate with Teacher Y about the ending. I think I can accept whoever wins between Xingyue and Yue. He thinks it’s unfair that Yuemoto doesn’t win. He laughs. If he works hard and will definitely win, it’s a shounen manga plot.

"Uncle Luli"/picture book

"A corner of a Paris street, a small window in an alley. In the window, there is an old man busy doing crafts. Under the small lamp, his white hair is swaying evenly, and he is holding a needle and thread in his hand. The books were sewn stitch by stitch. Against the window, books of different colors and sizes were arranged. On the dark red, green, navy blue, black, and brown leather covers were gold foil text and Arabic-style decorations. Time The flow is condensed into color and light, and what is played there is the music of silence and memory.”

RELIEUR means "rebinding again" and is also used to describe people who use more than 60 manual techniques to rebind and repair old books. A book for book lovers.

The elegant style of Ise Eiko's transparent watercolors will make people's hearts move.
"A Lion in Paris"/picture book

It's a rare collage-style picture book that suits your taste. Beatrice Alemania is such a versatile player, and her other book "A Great Day of Doing Nothing" is also worth recommending. For me, who was bored, this was a Paris city guide (note, the baguette is the sword that the French carry behind their backs every day). After reading it, I wanted to go out and play...

After reading it, I suddenly thought that I could write a book "A Sun Yat-sen in Nanjing" by imitating it. The last page is the bronze statue of Xinjiekou. Please make up the content above.

"Big City, Little You"/picture book

"I know how it feels when you are little in a big city." At first, I thought it was the narrator talking to the child, and then I thought it was the child talking to a homeless person, but I didn't expect the truth to be... looking for a cat.

I really like the focus on urban autism in this work. Although it feels a little bit adult, I think that the new generation of children born and raised in the city need this kind of care that is different from the past. The children will definitely feel this in their hearts. A complex meaning. Overall, it is an amazing work, dedicated to all people on the windy and snowy road in the city.

"Uren Eji's Hat", "Where's My Dinner", "Favorite Day", "Teapot"/picture book

Isha previously recommended this set of original picture books depicting the life of Mongolian children. I didn’t buy it at the time. Now that I have bought it, I can’t find the Mongolian version. Perhaps because I am an ethnic minority and have attended an ethnic university, I will pay more attention to related books. This set of books contains cute Mongolian children, kid goats, ponies and woolly cows that you will meet on the way to school, teapots filled with cream and cheese, and question-and-answer language similar to "Three Auspicious Treasures".

In addition to this set of books, I also bought two imported Tibetan picture books this month. Among them, the Tibetan version of the popular science children's book "Qomolangma" is worth recommending. Although I can't understand the text, the Tibetan language and illustrations match well. If you want to buy Tibetan children's books, you can follow the public account "Nono Children", which I also discovered accidentally. They have imported some foreign picture books and translated them into Tibetan versions, and also made original Tibetan literacy books. They also have their own bookstore in Lhasa.

"That Day, I Traded My Dad for Two Goldfish"/picture book

Be careful, useless dads at home! This is a heterochromatic picture book recommended for adults. You can reminisce about your childhood shadows from a safe distance, and then smile at the theme (?) of "men, useless".

Friends who like Neil Gaiman should not miss this dark story with a distinctive narrative mode, and Dave McKenzie's illustrations are a perfect match. The slightly dirty and blurry scenes are a reflection of the inner fear of childhood. It is better not to let children see the rising darkness.

"Golden Dreamland"/Japanese movie
The original work of "Golden Dreamland", everyone who likes Kotaro Isaka is not a bad person!

I watched this movie for the first time in July 2011. As a fan of Kotaro Isaka, I watched many movies adapted from his works. The short review recorded the turbulence in my heart at that time: "I started crying non-stop for the last 45 minutes!! I had a lot of snot and tears, it was heartbreaking!! How can I put it, it is a feeling that can only be felt by Isaka's story!! ROCK's youth is far away Cruel reality, escape, save family love, return to hometown and warm ROCK!! All kinds of details echo each other!! The ending is so awesome!!!" Laughs.

In July 2022, because of a murder, this movie was seen by many people again, and I also watched it again with Teacher Y. Fireworks go up, die to the idiots, long live the little people. Suddenly I realized that this was a promotional video for a run (X). I saw some people say that he is a bit of a middle-class student. Hey, why would you watch Kotaro Isaka if you don't have a strong middle class? Teacher Y sighed: "Oh, in the end, in life, I still rely on these friends who passed the second grade together!"

Death to the idiot!

above. I wish we still have the ability to face the truth, and I wish you a happy summer.
