Uncle Ben

(edited)

When Uncle Ben was young, he teamed up with an archaeologist on china and antiques in a sea fishing boat. This is the first time I've heard of such a profession. I know diving, I know archaeology, and I know shipwrecks, but I never associate these three things together. Thinking about it, this is a dream linkage. I've seen One Piece a lot, but I don't think it's true; many things can actually be true after looking at them from a different angle.

Watching the weather for three or four months a year, diving to salvage antiques from ancient Chinese shipwrecks. If I remember correctly, it seems to be a ship from the Ming Dynasty 400 years ago. The sinking of a ship is a very sad thing. People and things were swallowed up by the sea like this, and all the parties involved died, leaving the world with a lot of suspicion. To be optimistic, I can assume that the parties escaped.

The salvaged complete porcelain was donated to the National Museum of Malaysia, and there are many remaining ceramic fragments. Uncle Ben has opened another path that I did not think of - he polished the ceramic fragments to decorate the edging, and then made them into decorations for sale.

He wears his own sign on his finger with the word "Shou" on it.

This is his shopee website https://shopee.com.my/benrongen with videos of his merchandise and salvage process. The goods are full of beautiful, I thought at first glance, whoever wears it is a lady (and a noble husband).

The jewelry is so light, but it has carried 400 years of life. After 400 years of soaking in the sea, I must have seen many wonderful pictures, just like the piece of jade that Jia Baoyu carried.

When I was on a speedboat with Uncle Ben, he pointed to the top of the mountain where we landed and said that one day I would like to go there to see it.

I asked him if he knew the name of that mountain?

He said he didn't know, and neither did I.

It's just that if Uncle Ben hadn't mentioned it, I didn't realize that there was one mountain that was particularly sharp.

He said that when he was young, he dived too many times, the diving tank was heavy enough, and when he was old, he had a backache. When taking a speedboat, he had to find a corner with less vibration to spend time and again.

He bought an air mattress from MR DIY for RM30 (cheaper than I thought).

He wears an air mattress to soak in the sea every day, two times a day, morning and evening. Once I happened to meet him in the sea. He sat in a shallow place, letting the waves beat gently, passively. Unlike us young people who fight water fights, swim and laugh wildly.

He would chat with tourists he didn't know, then lend them air mattresses to play with, and tell them to put them outside the chalet when they're done playing. All air mattresses were returned safely. I think this thing is very interesting. Tourists enjoy the air cushion unexpectedly. Uncle Ben is also happy to share with others. If others are happy, he is also happy, which is a happy cycle.

After soaking in sea water, he would rinse off the sea water on his body in the outdoor shower head, and then go to the room to take a bath. He would put soap on his clothes, rinse off the bubbles, and then just hang the clothes on the air. "The clothes are not dirty, just soaked in sea water.", he said.

One day we were very hungry in the kitchen cooking dinner, and everyone was silent because we were so hungry.

He came into the kitchen, wanted to make sandwiches, and the first thing he said when he saw us was, "Why are you not giggling?"

Because we are usually very noisy, hahahaha.

We laughed a lot, because everyone knew that as long as we were there, it would be very noisy and the laughter was very loud.

Later he kept calling us the interns the giggles.

Uncle Ben is willing to save on his lodging to treat a friend to a drink. Every time he came, he asked for the cheapest room.

That room looked pretty good to me. Its compartment has been occupied by tree roots due to its long-term disrepair (taken by nature, especially the original words, I think the words used are beautiful). Maybe some people would mind sleeping with tree roots, so that room was especially cheap.

Once, his pants were turned upside down. In fact, he didn't mention it and we didn't find out. The trousers he was wearing were loose half-length pants, small black and white plaids, with pockets. So if you wear it backwards, the pockets on both sides will hang on the sides, which looks like the ears of an elephant, and will wobble with every step you take.

How can anyone say frankly that they put on their clothes upside down, and still be so indifferent and funny?

I like the lighthearted attitude of Uncle Ben, who doesn't think it's a big deal.

When relocating the turtle eggs to the hatchery, he said, we (this group of interns) can also build our own hatchery, so that you will be the mother of a group of small turtles.

We said, no way.

Conservation is the restoration of nature. There is no return in the short term. If there is a return, it will not be a clear monetary return. Even if the environment improves, human beings will live well. Conservation is charity in disguise. I saw that the NGO I was working on as an intern was barely able to operate with the help of the public. I felt that it was not easy. It was not for money, but it needed money.

Uncle Ben said with a serious face, yes, you are now practicing for the future.

I think he is also a man of ideas, thinking about things that no one else thinks about.

It should be, who said you can't think about these things.
