Do not drink alcohol if you are underage. Excessive drinking is harmful to your health

Historic, traditional style Rioja winery – Marques de Murrieta. The winery is located in the east of Logrono, on the border between Rioja Alta and Oriental.

The founder Luciano de Murrieta y Garcia-Lemoine established the first winery there in 1852 and began to make wine, creating the history of Rioja wine standing on the world stage. The brewing method is quite traditional, and it is aged in old American oak barrels. . Castillo Ygay, bought in 1872, has become the flagship wine of the winery. Now this wine is mostly made from Tempranillo + Mazuelo, of which the latter is aged in French oak barrels, which does provide a better sense of structure for the wine.

Dalmau is one of the few wines in the Rioja region that is still allowed to use Cabernet Sauvignon (up to 15%, which can still be used because it comes from historic vineyards), and is planted on large stones and iron-rich clay. with limestone vineyards. At the same time, in order to avoid grape phylloxera damage, the winery also cooperates with the laboratory to closely monitor the soil and vines. At present, there are not many wineries that can legally grow international varieties in the Rioja producing area. Riscal, who visited last year (2018) when participating in the Rioja Educator program, is also one of them. It is worth noting that the current regulations do not allow "new planting" of these varieties, but the old ones can be kept, so these wineries use the layering method to continue these international varieties. But a slight difference is that the Riscal winery did not cut off the branches originally from the mother plant after layering, but Murrieta did, perhaps because the topsoil was more rocky and closely monitored.

In addition, the Castillo Ygay product line comes from Castillo Ygay, a winery established very early, only a few years later than Murrieta, and it is located next door to Murrieta. However, the founder of Murrieta, Luciano, had a unique vision back then. He bought Castillo Ygay a few years after he founded Murrieta, and continues to keep this wine. Currently, this wine is only produced in good years, and only Gran Reserva is produced.

Ygay Gran Reserva's baijiu is also a very classic wine in Rioja, and the aroma brought out by the long barrel aging time is quite rare. In 1986, it spent 252 months in American oak barrels, and then spent 67 months in the cement tank before bottling. During this long period of time, a lot of wine should have been drunk by angels :p And compare The younger-style white wine Capelliana uses French barrels and used to be aged in large quantities of new oak, but has gradually reduced the proportion (now about 50% 50%).

Although in the Rioja wine educator program, the guild mentioned that some wineries will use words such as Especial or Selección on their wines, although the guild's position is that they hope that the wineries will not use these illegal words to avoid causing consumers. There is a wrong perception of the wine, but because it is not within the regulations, there are still many wines with similar words on the wine label. Castillo Ygay's red and white wines use the word Especial is one example.

In addition, the single vineyard winery under Rioja's new regulations is also participating in the application, but the representative of the winery said that whether to produce single vineyard wines is second, and for them, the historical significance is still relatively large. XD
