Jafaris on the verge of death

[Silence in the Water Lane] Jafari (ظریفه غفاری, Zarifa Ghafari) was appointed mayor of Maidan, Afghanistan in 2018. He stands out because he is the first female mayor of the locality and the youngest female mayor in the country at the age of 26, which is unusual in the conservative province of Huadak. What's more, the Taliban has always been on the sidelines, and he has to face a severe situation of internal and external troubles.

During his tenure in office, in addition to fighting corruption, he also vigorously called on the younger generation to participate in politics, eager to loosen the tradition of the old man's dictatorship, and of course he was more determined to fight for women's equal rights. With this status and style, it is not difficult to imagine how much jealousy and hatred he will attract. He not only has to deal with the exclusion of local males, but also has to face death threats from the Taliban. Since taking office, Jaafari has been assassinated three times. In November last year, his father was tragically shot dead in front of his home, and before that his grandfather and uncle were also killed by their opponents, which shows that his situation is in danger.

Although Jafali works in Maidan City, for safety reasons, he would rather live in Kabul, 45 kilometers away, and drive back and forth between the two places four hours a day. I have seen the interview clips released by the German-French TV station ARTE a few days ago. It was filmed that when his bodyguard drove him in and out, he had to press the plate in one hand and the gun in the other, always on guard against the Taliban who would not know where to save. When talking about such a life of going in and out of the gates of hell every day, he looked calm, smiled and said to the camera: "Death will always come. If it doesn't come today, maybe tomorrow."

In the end, Kabul also fell into the hands of the Taliban, and the key figures of the Afghan government have long since fled. Abandoned and betrayed, Jafali can only stay at her home in Kabul and wait for harm. He wailed to a reporter from the British newspaper i : "I'm just sitting here waiting for the other person to come. No one will save me and my family. I'll just sit with my family and my husband. And the other side will come for people like me. , and kill me. I can't leave my family. Besides, where am I going to go?" In particular, it was only three weeks ago that Jafaris praised the efforts of the younger generation on the radio station she ran, making her He is convinced that the country has a future.

People are knives, I am fish, and I don't know how Jafaris will end up. All I know is that the new Taliban government has sold its tongue to the outside world, announcing that it will respect women's rights under the constraints of Sharia law, and promises amnesty for those who served the previous government. Even if the reality makes people despair, but based on Jafari's heart since he fought all the way, I guess he is not afraid, and heaven will reserve a place for him. But seeing his years of hard work for Afghanistan destroyed in one fell swoop, he still taught him incomparable sigh and indignation .

When watching ARTE's interview clips, in addition to Jafari's words and deeds, there is one scene that is particularly impressive. When the local drivers with tangled beards drove the film crew through towns and villages, it was inevitable that they would pass through the sphere of influence of the Taliban. At this point he put on a turban wrapped around a cake and pretended to be a follower of the Taliban. When he arrived at the checkpoint of the Afghan government, he changed back to his round and flat prayer hat and showed me how to switch his identity instantly, reminding me. After all, Jafaris is only an anomaly, and many people in troubled times can only live by flickering, complacent with a little bit of cleverness trying to survive.
