Finally completed "Two Towers in One Day"!

"Two Pagodas in One Day" is a very popular challenge route in Taiwan's cycling industry. It takes 24 hours to ride from the Fuguijiao Lighthouse at the northernmost tip of the island to the Eluanbi Lighthouse at the southernmost tip, with a total length of about 520 kilometers. A route that any cyclist will want to complete. For non-player-level riders, the entire riding time will exceed 20 hours, and it is necessary to stay up late to ride, which is also a great test of willpower. Because the route is very long, it is easier to complete with the help of the wind, so it is usually chosen to ride in winter when the northeast monsoon is strong. And usually choose the flat land route in the western part of Taiwan, the slope is relatively gentle, known as the "West Twin Towers"; if you choose the eastern route, you will need to climb more than 3,000 meters, which is equal to the height of crossing the Central Mountains, which is extremely difficult. , known as the "East Twin Towers", that is an unattainable goal!

I wanted to complete this route for a long time, but I wanted to give up because I couldn't overcome the pain in my butt after riding for a long time! A while ago, I adjusted the settings of the cockpit of the road bike, and found that the problem of long-term riding pain has been greatly improved, and the challenge spirit has been reawakened; coupled with the low ebb state of the past two years, I really want to use this challenge to motivate myself, So I plan to complete this challenge this winter; I also look forward to reliving the "no-self" state I experienced when I climbed Wuling last time and approached my physical limit.

By the way, I would like to mention what happened when I challenged Wuling. Wuling is the highest point on Taiwan's highway, with an elevation of 3,275 meters. It is also a very popular challenge route in Taiwan's cycling industry. Generally speaking, there are 3 routes, which are "Westward", "Eastward" and "Northward" Wuling in order of difficulty. I only successfully challenged "Westward" twice, and the only one "Eastward" was a failure. "Northbound" has not been tried yet. The "westward" route starts from Puli in Nantou, and the total climb is about 2800 meters. As the altitude increases, the oxygen becomes thinner, and the slope of the road continues to increase, which is quite a difficult challenge. The last section of the 2.2-kilometer journey from Kunyang to Wuling has the title of "Paradise Road"; at this time, the physical strength is almost exhausted, and in the state of low oxygen in the high mountains, almost all the way is in the state of the highest heart rate, and the body is burdened. very large.

I remember when I went to Wuling for the second time, the weather was bad when I arrived in Kunyang, with thick fog and strong winds, and the temperature was low; the usually crowded parking lot was empty, and I felt a kind of extreme isolation. After going to the toilet for a short rest, my mood suddenly calmed down, and I started to go on the road with the feeling of stamping around in circles. At that time, the visibility was extremely low, and the cold wind and mist were constantly blowing through the body. Just when the body was about to be under great pressure, he suddenly found that he had reached Wuling. Didn't get out of the car once and it felt like only a few minutes had passed (actually the record was 28 minutes). During that journey, the mind experiences a state of extreme tranquility and emptiness, and time seems to have vanished.

Always wanted to experience that state again.

Going back to the challenge of the twin towers, the pre-training was actually not enough, the planned training plan could not always be completed, and the preparation time was not enough; but relying on the usual and stable physical maintenance, we had to bite the bullet!

I arrived at the Fuguijiao Lighthouse with my eldest daughter in the early morning. The northeast monsoon in Taiwan has been strong, and it has been raining in the north. Although there was only a drizzle on the north coast that day, it was not very comfortable to wear a raincoat, as well as car pants and shoes. I was wet; because the road was slippery, I didn’t dare to ride fast, and I forgot to take the earphones. The process of contacting my daughter to get the earphones also took a lot of time and was delayed for some time. Navigating with a mobile phone this time could have saved a lot of time for parking and finding a way, but there are many constructions on the coastal road planned to ride, and Google’s bicycle navigation mode often appears strange routes, which still delays a lot of time; it is a bit scary that , The newly purchased rechargeable lights that day, because the night riding time is too long, the power is not enough, and the battery cannot be replaced. It can only ride in the dark on many road sections without street lights, which causes a lot of psychological pressure.

The plan is always unable to keep up with the changes. These are the conditions that would be encountered on a long-distance bicycle, and they have been successfully overcome. But the biggest mistake is that the seat cushion was not locked after repeated adjustment before, and the seat cushion slipped back 1 cm and could not be found, causing pain in many parts of the body during the last less than 200 kilometers, which seriously affected the riding. ability; the pressure of a hurry and the pain of the body make the rhythm of the final ride chaotic, and finally finish in an excruciating condition.

It may also be because of too much pain, or the body has not yet reached the limit, and the expected state of "no-self" has not appeared, which is the biggest regret of this trip; or there is an expectation in my heart, and I have lost my sense of normalcy, but let it happen naturally. things are disturbed. After finishing, my mood was unexpectedly calm. After eating, drinking and sleeping for a while, I took a ride home the next day.

In the past few days after returning home, my mood seems to have really changed; my anxiety has eased a lot, and my motivation for life seems to have increased! Psychologically, I hope to regard this challenge as a watershed and say goodbye to the low ebb of the past few years.
