Let's read and chant Zhong Zhaozheng's "Waiting for the Spring Breeze"

If you read Zhong Zhaozheng's "Wang Chunfeng" from the perspective of reading a biography, you will inevitably be disappointed by the serious imbalance of the length. However, when I read the last sentence of Mr. Zhong's "postscript", if I could understand something, I realized Mr. Zhong's good intentions.

I remember that there was a song in my music textbook when I was in middle school. I still don’t quite understand what the purpose of asking middle school students to learn this song is. After all, the social atmosphere and the sadness and sadness in women’s hearts reflected in the lyrics are not something we can understand— - This song is "Waiting for the Spring Breeze " composed by Deng Yuxian and lyrics by Li Linqiu.

"Wang Chunfeng" is my first Taiwanese folk song that I can sing completely. From then on, the name Deng Yuxian is no longer unfamiliar to me. In addition to "Wang Chunfeng", such as "Rainy Night Flower", "Moon Night Sorrow"... and other songs are also often hummed by my mother or often covered by singers. I am naturally familiar with their melody. However, in the 1990s of my youth, the popular ones were Andy Lau, Jacky Cheung, Ren Xianqi, Zhang Zhenyue, Wu Bai, etc. Of course, those old songs were disdainful.

In March this year, my wife and I traveled to Tainan. During the trip, we visited the Lin Department Store. In the retro cultural and creative department store where the elegance of Japanese occupation is reproduced, the music that reverberates in the halls of each floor is the familiar "Watching the Spring Breeze" - I don't know if it is because of its reinterpretation in the way of modern performances, or because I am old, My mood changed, and I fell in love with it.

When I went to the merchandise department on the top floor, I finally couldn't help it and asked the clerk. Only then did I know that this was a re-arrangement of Deng Yuxian's classic tune by music master Fan Zongpei. The song became the background music when I was driving.

Not long after, I stumbled across Zhong Zhaozheng's novel "Waiting for the Spring Breeze," adapted from Deng Yuxian's deeds, at a used book stand, and I bought it casually until I finished reading it a few days ago.

Wang Chunfeng was written by Mr. Zhong's friend, Cai Deyin, who encouraged him to write. Zhong Lao is from Longtan. When he learned that Deng Yuxian was also a fellow from Longtan, he immediately became interested in creation. After searching for materials from various sources and interviewing Deng Yuxian's wife and two sons, he wrote this novel based on these historical materials.

I have to say that I initially read it as Deng Yuxian's biography, thinking that Mr. Zhong would focus the narrative on the most brilliant stage of Deng Yuxian's composition career - that is, the creation of "Watching the Rain in April" ("Red Seasons", "Rainy Night") The life experience and mental journey of the four pieces of "Flower", "Wang Chunfeng", "Moon Night Sorrow") - I did not expect that from 1906, when Deng Yuxian was born, to 1933, the peak of his creation, and even in 1940 In 2009, he decided to live in Zhudong and teach at Xionglin Public School—the thirty-four years between these two years, Zhong Lao explained in only six chapters; and since Deng Yuxian taught Xionglin until his death in 1944—there is no such thing as this paragraph. In the last four years of the production of important masterpieces, Zhong Lao actually wrote seventeen chapters, accounting for three-quarters of the entire novel!

Reading "Wang Chunfeng" from the perspective of reading a biography will inevitably disappoint the serious imbalance of the length. However, when I read the last sentence of Zhong Lao's "postscript", I realized something. He says:

Although this book is mainly composed of the deeds of Mr. Deng Yuxian during his lifetime that I have discovered, some plots and characters are fictitious. Therefore, this is not a biography of Deng Shi, but a novel "Wang Chunfeng".

Indeed, "Wang Chunfeng" is a novel, not a biography. Knowing this, I quickly read the seventeen chapters that follow, and I realized that there is no ambiguity between the protagonist Deng Yuxian and the fictional character Ye Shichunmei, who is the main focus of veteran Zhong, but it has no purpose.

Chunmei is a new young teacher who is more than ten years younger than Yuxian. Because her musical talent has attracted the attention of her predecessor, Yuxian, the two often meet to practice the piano. Unconsciously, the love for a long time, the two sides almost showed it several times...

Spring flowers are fragrant and their hearts are shaking. There is something I want to tell you, but I don't understand ("Four Seasons Red" lyrics)

However, due to Yuxian's status as a married man, the two who are in love with each other, although they know each other's feelings, can't express it clearly. A pure girl who has reached the marriageable age, she uses an excuse to turn down other marriages that are in the right household, just because she has a heart, she knows it is impossible, but she can't love another person anymore...

I want my husband to be my son-in-law, and I will keep my love in my heart. When will you come to pick the flowers of youth and suddenly I hear someone coming to open the door, I should watch Miyue, the old laugh, and Ruan Han, who is deceived by the wind .

The pure girl who was originally a cheerful personality, was stuck in love and was unhappy, and began to believe in fate, no longer igniting the longing and hope that youth should have...

Dare to be Yi Yin He Hu Ruan Fang Mo Li, the destined love

Chunmei finally reluctantly agreed to marry the son of a large family in Zhudong at the request of her parents. Helpless to make people, on the wedding day, the limousine was attacked by air, Chunmei was killed on the spot, Xiang Xiaoyu died...

Rainy Night Flowers Rainy Night Flowers are blown to the ground by the wind and rain, no one sees the daily resentment, the flowers wither and fall to the ground and never return ("Rainy Night Flowers" lyrics)

The situation of Chunmei, to put it bluntly, the lyrics of "Waiting for the Rain in April" have been exhausted. in my opinion:

Zhong Lao uses these seventeen chapters to concretize the artistic conception of the song, allowing readers to get close to Deng Yuxian through the story, and read and chant, further sublimating the artistic realm of the song.

After realizing this profound meaning, listen to "Watching the Rain in April"——

A musical co-created by a novelist and a musician kicked off in my head!
