The lawsuit between Hollywood star Johnny Depp and his ex-wife Amber Heard has finally been settled. It is generally believed that in domestic violence cases, the majority of victims are cisgender women, and this case has drawn public attention to cisgender male victims.

According to the official statistics of the Hong Kong Social Welfare Department in 2020, about one out of every six victims of domestic violence is a male, and most of the victims suffered from mental abuse. However, under the masculine gender stereotype, social norms such as "men bleed without tears" and "men have gold under their knees" abound. Even if men muster up the courage to ask for help from those around them, they are often questioned and ridiculed. In addition, it is difficult to leave obvious scars from emotional abuse, so that these domestic violence cases have not surfaced for a long time.

The author found that whenever there are male victims in society, some people will immediately point the finger at women, or "call feminist L". In fact, such cases just reflect that men can also be harmed under the patriarchal system. Some psychiatrists pointed out that men tend to suppress their emotions, and they need to be noticed by those around them, and even if they have regrets, they know how to seek medical treatment.

Rather than blaming each other, we should strive to break down gender stereotypes so that people of any gender in society can live in an environment of equality and mutual respect.
