The mainland has only jungle society, no business society

On February 6, in Changsha, China, a woman who used a truck to move her home jumped to her death. The local public security bureau recently released an investigation report describing the incident. If I believe that this investigative report is not false, then what I see is how serious the opposition among ordinary people has become in the jungle society of China. No matter how vigorously the banner of national unity is waved, it cannot hide the internal divisions.

According to the investigation report, the original price of the deceased's use of the goods was 51 yuan. After deducting the platform subsidy, he only needed to pay 39 yuan, which is very cheap, and it was only about the price of one or two meals. The owner of the car had asked the deceased if he needed an extra charge for transport services, but the deceased refused. As a result, after the deceased only relied on himself to carry the goods onto the car and delayed a lot of time, the car owner reminded the deceased that according to the platform regulations, if the waiting time exceeds 40 minutes, an additional fee will be charged, and the deceased ignores it. At this point, the owner has a certain amount of grievances.

On the way to the destination, the car owner asked the deceased again if he needed unloading services, but was rejected by the deceased again. And car owners, who didn't make much money from the service, took their next order early and changed their route to save time. After the deceased found the yaw, he questioned the car owner and asked to stop, and then clashed with the car owner. Finally, he jumped out of the moving car and fell to the ground to his death. "Delivery take the sound" has finally become "death to take the sound".

This is actually a very typical Chinese story: service providers want to make more money, consumers want to save more money, both sides only think about their own interests, distrust and oppose each other, and ultimately lead to tragedy. occur. Both sides are losers, and the deceased loses their lives. Only the platform can make a steady profit and does not need to take responsibility. Similar stories are also happening on other online platforms in China, and the contradictions between the people are becoming more and more acute: on the takeaway platform, the takeaway brother and the diners hurt each other; on the express platform, the courier and the consumer are also hurting each other, which is not uncommon. .

If we want to get to the root of this confrontation, of course, it is the injustice of the entire social system, and the rules formulated by various online platforms in a monopoly position are more to safeguard their own monopoly position and interests, not only do they fail to build a fair environment, Instead, it exacerbates the conflict between service providers and users—while they hurt each other because of platform rules, those platforms expand rapidly and gain more benefits. Sometimes the contradiction is too big and the authorities are alarmed. The authorities will take action to rectify it, and even forcibly stop the operation of the platform in exchange for a brief period of peace. will intensify.

The parent company of Lala Cargo is actually in Hong Kong, which was founded in 2013 by Lalamove, but in Hong Kong, it is rare to hear such a big dispute between car owners and consumers, not to mention the absurdity of jumping out of the car midway. So, why does the same company, when it arrives in the mainland, magnify the "banal evil" (such as petty gain) of the Chinese people, causing profound conflicts between service providers and users, and even leading to tragedies of human lives?

China is full of opportunities and traps, because it is a jungle society, not a benign business society. In the jungle society, you advance and I retreat, you live and die, there is no room for coexistence and progress, people have no dignity, and there is no sense of security – the problem of security cannot be solved by installing more surveillance cameras. While the Chinese are proud of the convenience brought by the development of the Internet on the mainland, they are not given more options. They want peace of mind, but don't want to pay more for it; similarly, service providers want to make more money, but don't always prioritize delivering reliable services. They get angry again and again, and in the end they can only be at the mercy of others.
