The mental process of theme design and briefing business.

It's been a long time since I was busy with projects and didn't have free time to create themes, and finally realized the magic of passive income (just kidding).

As of May 20, 2021, there are a total of 200 topics, reaching the goal set by the end of 2020. After reaching the standard, it is planned to organize the major and minor matters of theme production: mental journey, planning strategy, adjustment of mentality, theme implementation, etc., and compile these contents into a briefing report, which will be put on the platform for sale.

first batch of themes

First try｜2018

I chose a few textures I made in the past and converted them into themes. Maybe it was because I was impatient, and I was not familiar with the specifications of the theme. After going back and forth several times in the process, the results were very unsatisfactory.

The first batch has three themes, and the way of design is very casual, just like stickers.

Converting directly from a texture might be weird, so why not just focus on a theme you like?

Holding such an idea and making themes with a design mentality, the second batch of five themes with restrained styles was released, one of which is still in my hot sale area this year.

Hot Topics That Perform Well｜2019

Reflection of the sun and the moon , simple and inactive, with a little literary and individuality, it is more popular in some stratospheres~ Except for Taiwan, most of the sales areas are South Korea and Japan. Although the income can not be compared with the real hot sale, it has made obvious returns.

The third batch of themes

Hey! Don't Stop | 2019

While the momentum was still there, we continued to make the third batch of nine experimental themes, but it seemed to be off track again. Unspeakable weirdness, as long as you are impatient, the performance will gradually become mother soup.

Whenever I fall into this situation, I doubt myself a little bit, and why is it good and bad? Later I told myself that I'm still experimenting with different styles, and it's not that I'm bad!

After you've reworked it, try a more refined and slowly drawn subject. It feels much better than the last time. Sometimes whether you like it or not is the key point!

Thinking back to my trip to Okinawa in October 2019, I decided to draw the sea there.

In the middle and late stages, I expand different styles, try and adjust constantly, but I can't deviate too much from what I like. It is very important to strike a balance among them, because only then will I have the motivation to continue creating.

Occasionally, there will be super-satisfying themes, but not many people buy them after they are put on the shelves, only I am hilarious~

The creation of this matter, and its value cannot be determined by sales, so it does not need to be too concerned.

Saying so, but we are mortals after all.

It is normal to care, and even in the community it is easy to be kidnapped by numbers, thus losing the purest joy in creation, stifling interesting ideas, and performing for others.

Why do you want to make money with themes in the end? Around a certain point in time, the subconscious kept telling me: You can't make a living by taking projects alone. There is a lot of pressure in accepting a case, and I feel that I can do more when things go too smoothly. When I meet a client that is not normal, I feel like I am wasting my life.

Not as powerful as imagined

Many people think that being able to run a studio is a very powerful thing.

In fact, this is only a one-person studio. For me, before the studio is not stable enough, I will not register. Yes, there is no registration. All projects are also handled by individuals. In the process, I continue to improve in different fields, and I can learn a lot of things, which is quite satisfying in some respects.

I, who once didn't take passive income seriously (I'm so lazy...), after several months of vacancy in receiving cases, realized that if I only had a single income, I would still be kidnapped by work to make money.

Continue to make money, or worry about making money, because the expenses are always more than expected. Although I have no material desires, renting out, eating out, insurance, student loans, software subscriptions, etc. These are all expenses that cannot be avoided.

Once you don't receive a case, you have to continue to bite the bullet. It's not the way to go on like this, you can only work harder.

Active/Passive Income

Last year, I began to "seriously" implement Taiwan stock deposits, design objects, and private tutoring. It is expected to increase two incomes by the end of this year, whether active or passive.

As for the original theme, it was only after continuous adjustment that I found that it is quite suitable for me, and it is also a relatively stable passive income. The monthly income of 2 to 4 falls at 1,000 ~ 2,000 Taiwan dollars, and the recent income has grown a little bit.

The income distribution in May was more than 20,000 yen. After deducting the handling fee, there was still more than 5,000 Taiwan dollars left.

June is not over yet, but it has been calculated that the minimum guarantee is more than 7,000 Taiwan dollars.

But I know it won't increase so smoothly, it's good to be able to maintain it at this stage!

Busy

I have been busy with work (executing projects) recently and have no time to make a theme, so I can only put it on hold and observe whether the revenue declines too much because there are no new themes on the shelves.

I’m still the same, I can’t stop when I’m busy, and I can work until midnight for several days.

I feel a little reassured that there is a project that can be implemented, and private tutoring is still going on. I still hope that the epidemic will end soon, so that I can have face-to-face classes with students, and no longer stay on the laptop for class; another idea has arisen these days, Hope I can do more before I can.

Yes, after the epidemic started, I became even more busy. I was busy until I wrote an article for a long time. I couldn’t sleep a few days ago and felt that I didn’t do enough. These days, I fell asleep because I was too tired.

I really wish there was a balance.
