"The Hero's Journey of Personality" Series: Turn Off the Projector of the Mind
I have a friend who has an inexplicable, extreme aversion to fat people. She often can't help but criticize the fat people she sees on the road or on TV, and her emotions will be affected and full of disgust. Her nature is actually kind and generous to people, but for some reason, when faced with obese people, she just can't control the feeling of hatred and hatred in her heart.
Although I didn't specifically analyze it for her, according to my guess, this inexplicable mentality is mostly the result of psychological shadow projection. Although she is not fat, she has never been fat, but maybe there was some personal experience that made her have a shadow about obesity and buried it in her subconscious without knowing it.
Psychological projection is a tool we use to deal with the overwhelming emotional conflict within us. It is a subconscious defense mechanism, like a reflex action after a knock on the knee, without thought or control, and it reacts immediately. The so-called "overwhelming emotional conflict" means that we have a certain emotion or idea in our heart (whether you know it consciously or not), it is targeted, and the trigger may be a certain person, behavior, or thing, but because of the For some reason, the inability or unwillingness to be revealed in an open and fair manner causes an imbalance and conflict in our inner harmony. In order to regulate this uncomfortable state, the subconscious mind is very cunning to point the finger at others. When we see similar qualities in others, the button in our heart is detonated, or if we want to evacuate our guilt, we go through A projected action, in turn, to accuse others. For example, it is clear that he wants to get a certain benefit, but he emphasizes the greed of another person; because he lacks self-confidence, he dare not let others know, but he likes to criticize others for being timid.
The person being projected is most likely innocent, and inexplicably suffered by Chiyu, of course, it may also be true. In any case, that person is actually just a curtain in front of the projector, and the image he presents is actually not him, but ourselves, a certain emotion in our hearts that we don’t want to face or admit.
The camera is facing someone else, and the arrow points to someone else. In fact, what we often lack is the process and ability of introspection.
The fourth track on BTS's new album, Make It Right, is about finding the answer by seeking within and adjusting yourself in the right direction.
the moment i noticed myself
i have to leave
i have to find the answer
around the clock
Travel through deserts and oceans
I am in this vast world
roaming
I can make it a little better
I can hold you tighter
on this long road
you are the light
not invited
not welcome
But the only one who can recognize me
In this endless night
You bring me the morning like a gift
Can I hold that hand now?
Oh, I can do it right
. . . . . . .
All to get close to you
Answers to my journey
I sing to find you
. . . . . . .
It all brings me back to you in the end
Now I spread out a map, that's you
my fix
Look at me, why don't you recognize me?
I don't want to hear other people's noise
Your scent still penetrates and disintegrates me
Let's go back to that time
I can make it a little better
I can hold you tighter
All roads lead to you
Nothing but you
touch me again, like then
. . . . . . .
you are still beautiful
Just like that time, hold me quietly
The reason why I can survive in hell so far
for you, not for me
If you know, don't hesitate to save me
Wandering in this desert for a long time, I am very thirsty
So please hurry up, hurry up and grab my hand
Without you, even the ocean is like a desert
As the lyrics say, the process of knowing oneself is really a long road. Even if you don't want to face it at first, you're not welcome, it's like wandering aimlessly in the desert, thirsty, and sometimes it feels like hell with no end in sight. But what really gives us comfort and the ability to make things better is when we find ourselves, accept ourselves, and embrace ourselves.
The answer is never outside, but within us.
This album of BTS clearly stated that this is a map of the mind, so the end point that the map points to is the mind. So that "you" is your inner self. Many times we don't even recognize ourselves, because our eyes have been staring at the outside, but we don't realize that it is all noise. Only by seeking inward and re-repairing with ourselves will we pick up the initial moving and the morning light will appear.
Let's turn off the projector facing the outside, turn the lens inward, and examine the current state and nature of our own mind. For some of the inexplicable emotions we sometimes experience in relationships, the answer is not in those people, but in ourselves.
