Dialect Essay | The Golden Gate Dialect of Taiwanese (Silent Version)

To write the dialect of "my hometown", the word hometown is inevitably related to the recent controversy over the Taiwanese identity in Kinmen.
A few days ago, the Legislative Yuan raised the question of "are Kinmen people from Taiwan?" That's right, our ID card is indeed "Fujian Kinmen nationality"...

However, on second thought, for the problem of the Kinmen people's Taiwan identity, perhaps "the way and the degree of the meeting between Kinmen and Taiwan" can be like the title of "Taiwanese Kinmen dialect". Strictly speaking, only Hokkien has Kinmen dialect. But now the title doesn't sound out of place. On the contrary: Deliberately emphasizing that "Kinmen and Taiwanese both speak 'Hokkien'" or "The Kinmen dialect is too close to the mainland, it will definitely sell Taiwan"... It sounds a lot ridiculous.

Kinmen vs. various accents throughout Taiwan?

Although my introduction is so controversial, in all fairness, my concept of "hometown dialect" is actually based on the differences between Kinmen and Taiwan.

In the first few years of the 21st century, I came to Taiwan and finished studying the highest institution of the Democratic Progressive Party that killed all the students. In the era of the Bian government, speaking my mother tongue was a kind of liberation. However, I still took both my own when speaking Taiwanese. Complex without clear feelings:

As a result, even though I knew that Taiwanese had various accents, I decided that the Jinmen accent must be "too unique", so that when I said it, I would reveal that I didn't fit into "here" or "not enough here".

Secondly, I subjectively and deliberately regarded the Hokkien dialect of Kinmen dialect as a kind of password, so I felt that when speaking Taiwanese with Taiwanese, I had to use the second dialect: I believed at the time that this was due to the actual differences between Taiwan and Kinmen.

In conclusion, I think I have to speak two kinds of Taiwanese: one from Kinmen and one from Taiwan pretending to be.

The reason?
Part of it, of course, I only discovered in recent years:
It turns out that in the 1980s and 1990s, when I grew up, there was a period when the separation between Kinmen and the island of Taiwan was the strongest. So, I naturally used "Kinmen and Taiwan are different" to explain, which is an inevitable framework.

But other than that, I really feel that the Taiwanese with the Kinmen accent is really not mainstream.

I have about 5-6 questions in it that are not very different or don't know the difference at all, so the Jinmen dialect is obviously not "so" different.

Later, I worked in Beijing for a long time, and I also developed a specific accent. When I arrived in Chengdu, I was asked if I was from Northeast China. At that time, I had mixed feelings:

After a while in Kansai, when I came to Tokyo, I was treated by the Japanese in the team with a special calm air of ridicule when I spoke the Kansai dialect in Japanese.

Immediately, I realized the state of speaking my native language in Taiwan but having a double accent. I always thought that the Kinmen dialect was so special, not because I was out of town, just like I could speak the second version of Mandarin, and I was in Taipei at the beginning. In life, the Kinmen accent is sealed by myself. In fact, I just want to preserve the "mother tongue". That language seems to flow in the blood and resonate with the ocean. It has been buried in the land of Kinmen. Taiwanese" to remind myself to understand the accent of my hometown in my heart, otherwise, I will chat freely with my fellow villagers, ignoring the eyes of these "city people" around me...

Anyway, the most important thing is that one day I will become a person who can only speak foreign accents.
