Strolling Hong Kong Series 06 | Camel Paint Building
Hong Kong has a large number of shopping malls, and different types of shopping malls have a variety of customer sources. We can divide the shopping malls in Hong Kong into four levels. Of course, there are different transitional stages between each level, but the general source of customers and the customer traffic are not too different.
Level 1: Hongkong Land, IFC, Pacific Place, Elements, Hysan, Harbor City, K11, etc.;
Level 2: New City, Tai Po Mega City, Langham Place, Olympian City, Nina, apm, etc.;
Level 3: Hilton, Sha Tin Center, Tsuen Wan Thousand Colors Store, etc.;
Level 4: Hung Hom Plaza, Gold, Gordon, etc.
Of course, these very preliminary classifications can be constantly changed. However, in Hong Kong where rents are high, first- and second-tier shopping malls are basically monopolized by some chain stores and luxury stores with high prices. For the general public, the main functions of these places are "air-conditioned corridors" and "clean public toilets".
And some shopping malls that are really related to people's livelihood can only be provided in third- and fourth-tier shopping malls. Most of the decoration of these shopping malls retains the original flavor, and there are not many facilities and the flow of people is huge. It's rare for us to see a fancy toilet in these places, but the price of goods is fancy for our flat wallets.
However, even if you go to the fourth-tier shopping malls, the rent is still not cheap. For some remote shops that need large places and few customers, these shopping malls are still unaffordable.
The result is that Hong Kong uses a lot of distinctive and interesting industrial buildings and shopping malls. A typical example is the camel paint building in Kwun Tong.
There are three phases of this building, and it is really only used as an industrial building. It's just that in the era of Hong Kong's industrial decline, many restaurants and shops gradually moved into this building, making it a special shopping mall.
Basically, the communication traffic in this place is very poor, so it often takes a long time to take passengers to go to the corresponding floor. It's just that I believe that many people, like me, have nothing to do when they enter this building. They just want to walk the streets, but they don't want to go to apm where the shopping mall is crowded.
So many people take a ride 𨋢 to the top floor, and slowly walk to the ground floor by floor. This is indeed very characteristic of Hong Kong: to develop high altitude.
Inside this building, there are many shops: furniture, baby products, travel products, outdoor camping products, restaurants, food, electronic products, lighting stores.
Basically, you can find something you want, or something you didn't know you wanted in this place. The most gratifying thing is that this place is peaceful and you don't need to worry about people pressing you.
This place is especially suitable for hot summer and rainy weather. You can already go to a cooler place without worrying about the sun and rain.
Of course, because of the slightly lower rent, the prices of the things sold here will also be slightly cheaper than other places. So this place is a good place for the general public.
So these days it is cold and rainy, go to this civilian place that is not affected by the weather, and enjoy the quiet and comfortable street space.
Like my work? Don't forget to support and clap, let me know that you are with me on the road of creation. Keep this enthusiasm together!
