What are we talking about when we talk about art?
In fact, everyone is more or less exposed to "art" in their daily life. When I was a child, I started picking up brushes and doodles, and then I took part in various painting classes, and then took art or school courses, or a kind of public exam. It was a portfolio for children in the entrance examination, and what famous paintings were reported in the news and made sky-high prices or Hong Kong. What awards did Tong win in an international painting competition, a series of "panic" caused by the British artist Antony Gormley Event Horizon Hong Kong, the Louvre in Paris, one of the travel check-points, Tate Modern in the UK, Sagrada Familia in Barcelona (Sagrada Família), the "cabbage pork" of the National Palace Museum in Taiwan; it is a relaxing Art Jamming or different handicraft classes in spare time, it is a hot spot for photos of various exhibitions in shopping malls, events in the museum art space, and advertising copywriting , Marketing, the cover you see when visiting a bookstore, Facebook news feed, some installations in public spaces, a picture or piece of furniture hanging on the wall of a friend's home in the office or a restaurant, The story of an artist; it is an adjective, an attitude to life, a kind of admiration, a kind of cultivation, a kind of pursuit; it means that I have no interest in pretending to be my business...
Art has different aspects, some are for the sake of happiness, some spiritual pursuit, some are related to the evolution of human civilization, some are for the society, some are entertainment, some are market investment, some are reputation and status symbols, some are commodities, some are Academic research... ...some are applied, some are purer. Aspects exist simultaneously, develop in their own way, have overlapping parts, and have their own domains. Everyone is in the name of art, but the focus is not the same. The concerns and discussions are also different, and some are even irrelevant.
Different people have different pursuits, or have different pursuits at different stages. There are different pursuits under different cognitions, and different pursuits under different needs...
Some people will say "everyone is an artist" or "everything is art". First of all, it is necessary to clarify whether what you are talking about is "art in a broad sense" or "art in a narrow sense"? What exactly is "art"? Is it "Fine art", "Applied Art", "High Art", "Low Art"... in what context? What is it pointing to? When some sentences appear repeatedly in daily life, maybe everyone will gradually think that things are like this. Over time, I believe in a certain set of sayings without delving into it, especially when facing some areas that I am not familiar with. Some concepts are actually quite confusing, but most of us don't get to the bottom of what they mean. It seems to understand, it seems to be very clear, but if you want to go deeper, what is it? If there is art "packaging", is it art? What exactly is "art" we are talking about?
Taking photography as an example, what is the photography that the photography we are talking about is pursuing?
Is it a technology trend? Is it technical research? is the application? Is it commercial photography? Is it a personal interest? Is it a pastime? Is it showing off? Is it an artistic pursuit? Is it creative? Is it a consumer behavior? Is it social? Is it uh Like? or just a click?
Even sometimes, what we are discussing, is it purely a camera or a device? Or photography? Do we like a consumer behavior or something else? What do we want to do that we are interested in and care about? What is the meaning of photography? Why photography? Why choose photography over anything else? A series of questions.
Is the NTF art of today really art? Or is it just an investment market in the name of art?
