"First Aging, Then What": So what happens when you get old?
When I had to admit the fact that I was no longer young, I began to read books about middle age and old age.
Mi Guo is my favorite Taiwanese writer. I found her book "Chu Lao, and Then". Just seeing the word "Chu Lao" made me want to buy it. Haha, I can not say that I am old for the time being, but Chu Lao. How inspiring.
For me, a young adult (I can no longer pretend to be a young adult anyway), this book is very interesting. I couldn’t help but underline many sentences when I saw them:
- Only by accepting old age can we stay young.
- In the second half of life, what should be protected is no longer just the appearance of youth, but the day after day of gatherings with relatives and close friends.
- Vicissitudes of life and stress deepen the depth of wrinkles, and losing shape does not mean that you are irresponsible for your appearance, because what you care about is no longer beauty and youth, but a more profound responsibility in life.
- An ideal daily routine for happiness should have a moderate workload, a moderate amount of reading time, a moderate amount of relaxation, a moderate amount of housework, and a moderate amount of contemplation, plus a moderate amount of useless and boring activities.
- As age passes from generation to generation, the boundary between young and old is slowly erased. Even if we spend the same years in the human world, it seems that we cannot carry the same weight of life.
The discussion of aging should be heavy, but "First Age, and Then" is written lightly, making it easy and comfortable to read.
The book is divided into three parts. The first part talks about the symptoms of aging, such as presbyopia, frozen shoulders, wrinkles, chills, etc. The writing is humorous and touching, although I have not encountered these symptoms one by one. , but knowing that you will have to face these problems sooner or later, it is natural, so you don’t need to worry too much.
The second part talks about the middle-aged mentality. You can continue to be fashionable when you are old, or you can continue to chase stars, reminding yourself not to become an "annoying elder".
The third part makes some suggestions for life after old age, talks about end-of-life activities, and encourages everyone to continue to maintain curiosity and enthusiasm even when they are old.
This book does not have rigid suggestions, it just talks about the author's own experiences and insights, so that readers can subconsciously accept that getting older is not a bad thing.
Hey, so what if you get old? I have gone through wonderful years, and the days to come will definitely be even more wonderful. Although my body will definitely have many symptoms when I grow old, I am not afraid. Soldiers will stop me, water will cover me, and earth will cover me. I am not afraid.
Adjust your mentality and continue to welcome every day in the future no matter how old you are.
