My big private school experience (10) Literacy
Although education should be about educating people, but when I was teaching in high schools in Taiwan, it was a period of transformation of "externalization", and there are still traces of rough behavior in many places. What makes private schools more interesting than public schools is that in addition to paying attention to background relationships, teachers will play a variety of roles, and there is absolutely no room for rejection. What the state decree says can be done, of course, is to ask teachers to do it, and what the state decree stipulates is to drill when you have time, and you are welcome.
Considering the cost, it is usually a teacher's certificate to do a variety of things. For example, the teacher's certificate of the electronics department, since electronics can be used, physics should be the same, and chemistry should be no problem, right? Let you teach physics and chemistry in addition to electronics. I have a Chinese liberal arts teacher certificate, so history shouldn't be too difficult, I'll leave this to you. Extending a little further, the world cultural history has also started, and the Three People's Principles are also a piece of cake! Since the Three Principles of the People can, there is nothing wrong with law and life. These things that seem inconceivable now, were commonplace back then, almost the same in any private school. There is only the difference between "so exaggerated" and "so exaggerated". To paraphrase Mr. Tieguai Li’s words, it is education, but it is actually business. All cost considerations and all ideas are for business.
In this case, when the low birthrate begins to appear, there will be more and more realistic considerations, and it will become more and more embarrassing. It is normal to set up a trick to collect money, or to press the teacher to do things. The letter of appointment I received from a large and private school said that it was a teacher of Chinese liberal arts. In addition to extending many subjects, such a common subject teacher also has to be a mentor. At the tutor meeting three days before the start of the semester, I learned that I was assigned to the tutor of the food and beverage department of the freshman. I didn't take the catering department at that time, so I was a little nervous. I asked Mr. Wu, the smoker next to me:
"I haven't brought a meal, Coye, so I don't know if it will be a challenge."
The reason why Mr. Wu, a smoker, was given the honorary title of "Smoker" in the school, is because he is so addicted to smoking that he has cigarettes all the time. In addition to handling official duties and going to the toilet after each class, he ran to the school gate to smoke. Usually, even if I change my homework in the office, I take out an empty cigarette, don't light it, hold it in my hand and knock it upside down, put it in front of my nose to inhale and sniff, and then put it on my lips to suck and spit, if it doesn't smoke, I really thought he was smoking in the office. He said he was fine, and it would not be illegal if he didn't set it on fire. This... I don't know either, although I also have a law and a life.
"I said, you are just too young..." Mr. Wu, a cigarette friend, knocked on the table with a cigarette, with a smile on his face that seemed to be ridiculed:
"First-year freshmen just want electricity! Have you ever been a soldier? They didn't dare to call them on the first day, but it's much easier to manage later. For the meal department, it's like cooking. What kind of materials are the students here? ”
After talking about this, it is the same as not talking about it. Isn't the sentence "you can figure it out for yourself"? Later, a young new teacher asked me similar things, and I found that there was no difference in the content except that my speech might be softer and more long-winded.
On the day of the school year, the students were brought to the classroom, called by name, introduced themselves, and found that the students were basically moderate. He breathed a sigh of relief, and handed out the basic information sheet (the so-called A card and B card, it doesn't matter if you don't know), and asked the students to fill it out and hand it over on the spot. While they were filling in, I continued to babble about all kinds of nonsense about regulations and so on. Suddenly, I found that two students were not writing. I walked over and saw that only their names were on the data sheet, and the rest were blank. My heart is on fire, and it seems that I need to call:
"Why don't you write it quickly, I will go to the assembly hall to gather later, the principal wants to speak."
"Teacher, bad luck, I'm going to take it back and write it to my dad." The student's face was a little embarrassed. I was dumbfounded, thinking that my face wouldn't be too good-looking. This student is really short of electricity! Putting his face on his face, he took out the Jianghu breath and said to him:
"You're almost the same. Just fill in your own information. Take it back and fill it out for Dad. Is it so disrespectful? Write it to me!"
His face was flushed with embarrassment, and he was speechless for a long time.
"I can't write."
"It's just basic information, not a question-and-answer question. Why can't you write it! Are you pretending to be dead?" I thought this student was weird and was trying to trouble me.
"I don't know how to write!" His face turned from red to blue and white, and back to full red, and his blushing neck thickly squeezed out word by word from between his teeth:
"I don't know the words!"
I was dumbfounded. Just as the voice of the assembly came from the loudspeaker, I asked the students to collect the basic information sheet and hurriedly end the assembly.
When I returned to the office after school, Mr. Wu, a friend of smoke, was sitting on a chair sorting out the basic information sheets of the students. I couldn't help but talk about this student's situation, complaining:
"How can there be such students? What age, how can there be students who are illiterate?"
He stopped hissing and looked up at me:
"What's so strange? There are a few illiterate students every year! It's time for you to buy the Mark Six this year. It's your class."
ah? how is this possible? What age are there still students who are illiterate?
He took a cigarette again, and fell back easily, pressing on the chair, folded his feet, and pressed the leather shoes on the white and green student information sheet:
"It's really nothing strange. Students in elementary school, as long as they go to school obediently, they can graduate if they are not serious. The same is true for middle school. They will catch fish every day and graduate when the time is up. As long as the family doesn't care too much about the zero score in the test, even the test paper You don’t need to write your name. After graduating from elementary school, you can go to middle school, and after graduating from middle school, you don’t have to go to high school. Even if you take the exam, there are more schools than students.
I was dumbfounded, I never thought there would be such a thing as a high school student who couldn't read. I began to worry about what to teach next, and I said a nonsense:
"Then what should I do? How do I teach this? How does he graduate?"
"That's your problem! Teacher Chinese." Mr. Wu took out the cigarette from his mouth and exhaled deeply into the air, as if something really came out of his chest.
