Abandoned Film Review | "Interstellar Rescue" - Regaining yourself in the midst of catastrophe
Humans are full of expectations for the imagination of space, and the endless universe is full of possibilities. "Interstellar Rescue" presents us a space journey that is contrary to the above. As in echoing the original English title of "2001: A Space Odyssey", "Space odyssey", space travel, the most possible magical adventure for mankind, may be endless, long and tortured.
universe, endless journey
The story depicts a near-future world where humans can travel between the earth and the moon like an airplane. The moon base is like a store, with well-known chain restaurants, like a cheap replica of the earth. Roy Mcbride, played by Brad Pitt, is sent on a mission to find his missing father and is a matter of life on Earth. In the beginning of the story, Roy had an accident from an alien while in a space elevator, and he fell from the elevator. Roy's every move, reporting, confirming that the space suit is broken, trying to stay awake, the way he talks, the way he behaves, makes people feel calm, composed and almost emotionless.
His emotional state is at the heart of the film, and his indifference makes him a successful astronaut, a failed "human". "When I'm talking to you, it's like you're far away," said Roy's departed wife. As the plot progresses, Roy silently monologues his heart while operating those complicated machines and watching the universe. Brad Pitt's superb performance holds up the entire one-man movie. The emotions that seem to be inadvertently interpreted, the subtle changes of the face, make the long drama of the long shot look ups and downs. His speech sounds indifferent and full of emotion, and the audience realizes the eddy hidden in the emotionless face. Knowing that he is still stuck with his wife, with his relationships, with his father—the end of the journey. He and his father are at odds with each other, attachment and resentment coexist. He pursues his father and becomes an astronaut. But his father was always in search of space, and his father was to him, as he was to his wife, a presence and absence.
at the end of the sea of stars
The audience followed in Roy's footsteps, passing through the huge star, the emptiness of the scenery and the cool music hit the audience. It's like "Interstellar" trying to argue that love may be the most important thing in the future world. Compared with technology, "Interstellar Rescue" focuses more on how to face the interpersonal struggle in the universe, how to face the difficult nostalgia far away from home, and in front of the vast planet, even lonely people. can feel lonely. During Roy's journey, he experienced several corpses, some due to political factors, some due to accidents, which awakened the audience. In that beautiful world, death is extremely easy. But despite this, Roy keeps moving forward, what is he doing? He did not expect his father to forgive or praise him. The whole trip was a pilgrimage, part of Roy Mcbride's ascetic path, in which he checked himself over and over, and made the flight log over and over like a confession. The slow confession came to an end, and the indifferent and restrained tone made the emotions like an ocean tide, laying out the waves from small to large layer by layer.
At the end of the plot, it may be the worst imagination for the future of mankind. Before the end of the world, mankind may be destroyed by mankind. However, even in such a world, there is still hope for mankind. The story of exploring the universe is actually like a great voyage story. People must have a firm heart to cross the seemingly endless ocean (universe) and reach the island with treasures. The ending reminds us that even if there is no treasure at the end, those endangered processes are already a redemption.
The original title of the film is "Ad Astra", which is taken from the Latin proverb "Per Ardua Ad Astra", which means to walk through adversity and go to the starry sky.
When we reach the peak and cross the stars, we may finally arrive at ourselves.
