Read the notes "Learn to Think Strategically: Thinking Methods Quickly, Quickly Eliminate, Effectively Persuade, and Make Smart People Work Smarter"
●"Strategic thinking roller coaster" has three necessary links:
1. How to quickly generate great ideas (rising). Build a logic tree, link words into sentences, and find some structure for unfamiliar problems. Borrow business theory and learn from the world's best business gurus to quickly come up with smart options. Use some counterintuitive thinking skills to expand your understanding of the problem at hand and find creative options.
2. How to knock out options (drop) instantly. Use a variety of qualitative techniques to pit all ideas against each other, allowing them to sort out the good and the bad on their own. Apply some quantitative techniques to validate the options you have made so far in a data-heavy direction as much as possible to practically test the options on the ground to demonstrate the feasibility or other aspects of the remaining options.
3. How to gain approval (advance) for the best solution. Use high-impact text to tailor your communication to each stakeholder's personal preferences. Check the simple numbers, your idea won't gain acceptance without overcoming some financial hurdle. Create a compelling story that engages stakeholders and draws their attention to important aspects of the proposed program that must be understood.
●Seven tips for using the pyramid principle early in a problem-solving activity:
1. Find a workable area and write the most desired result or the most difficult result at the top.
2. Write the answers to the following two simple questions with post-it notes, and then paste them below the top post-it notes to create a pyramid structure: Drill down: "What conditions must be met for this result to come true?" Push back Upper layer: "Can we think of a situation where the following three conditions are met, but the content of the post-it note at the upper layer still cannot be automatically realized?"
3. When constructing the pyramid, we should try to grasp the MECE principle, so that each layer of the pyramid can be clearly arranged. ME (Mutually Exclusive) means "independent of each other", while CE (Completely Exhaustive) means "without omission".
4. Gradually replace technical words with complete sentences when writing conditions.
5. Use positive statements to write sentences, not negative or interrogative sentences.
6. Re-prioritize conditions to tell the story for maximum effect.
7. Continue to build the next layer.
●Ten persuasion methods:
The four channels of NLP language emphasize the importance of the "form" of speech used to influence others, and the ten persuasion models are based on these "characteristics" of word choice.
1. Reason/2. Question/3. Authority/4. Force/5. Profession/6. Incentive/7. Silent ally/8. Fan soup/9. Trading/10. Favor.
●Five tips to improve strategic thinking ability:
1. The third solution is often the best solution. It takes some time for most people to accept that the first options they come up with for a complex problem are not the best options. However, once you understand this, it becomes clear that the best way to approach a complex problem is to quickly "rise" to "clear" and find three or four initial options. Even if the solution is not as expected, finding a third solution quickly goes a long way in improving the chances of solving the problem.
2. Use "up" for small teams and "down" for large teams.
3. The effect of sticky notes is stronger than that of a pen.
4. Vote first and then debate. The yin and yang sides of strategic thinking are diffuse thinking and convergent thinking. One is to breathe out, the other is to breathe in. Diffusional thinking embraces difference, attracts complexity, inspires options, and entangles in the nitty-gritty to create more variety. Convergent thinking aims to achieve a single result as quickly as possible, focuses on work efficiency, is decisive, and is alert to the exhaustion of time and budget.
5. Don’t reject artificial intelligence. The impact of AI on the "decline" and "advance" phases of strategic thinking so far is unclear, and we should explore together as AI develops.
