Walking in Hong Kong: Wah Fu Estate
I remember when I was a child, a distant relative told everyone that his family was assigned to a public housing in Wah Fu Village.
Later, for the annual New Year's greetings, I went with my family once. We live in Kowloon. We only recognize Central and Sheung Wan when we cross the sea, and we usually walk. I'm not familiar with the bus routes in Hong Kong Island, and I can't tell the difference between east, west, north and south. I feel like I'm out of the country. So in my impression, I should have only been there once. It can be said that I have no memory at all, and I am not particularly curious.
In fact, is it common for Hong Kong people to have this situation? There are some distinctions, and they have never thought to check it out.
After many years, Wah Fu Village will be rebuilt, and there are many media reports. It was a corner of the estate back then. It was a very busy estate next to it. It also connects Cyberport and Aberdeen one after another. , and it is located by the sea, with invincible sea views still, and has the title of public housing mansion.
The traffic in and out has been improved a lot today, there are buses to Kowloon, and the nearest MTR station may be Wong Chuk Hang. Entering from the main street, the characteristics of those ancient housing estates are immediately displayed. Due to the limitation of the mountain shape, many stairs and bridges are connected. Such corridors are certainly not common. Because of the mountain situation, the fourth and fifth floors are the first floors closest to the main street. Cross a bridge to the bus stop.
The central location here should be the space of the elevator lobby. In the past, there was always this large space in public housing. For example, Xu Guanjie or the brothers Wong Ka Kui of the Beyond band mentioned that the situation in So Uk Village was when everyone banded together to play musical instruments. germinate in such a space. It can be said that it can give people the space to dream, or so, it is no longer needed today.
It is adjacent to another housing estate, Wah Kwai Estate, which is a building of different ages, connected by a flyover and an elevator. The font of the building name is also rare. Some old shops seem to be decades old, but next to them are new technology product companies.
Each housing estate has a unique ice room with a history of nearly half a century.
A unique attraction of Huafu Village is this waterfall. In fact, it is not very big, and it is not a mountain, and it is already a mansion. There is a waterfall bay park along the coast, follow it all the way, the park is narrow and long, there is only a small road in some places, go all the way to the end, go down the stairs, you will see the waterfall. However, the stairs leading to the sea are locked with an iron gate in the middle, but you can bypass the iron gate by climbing out of the railing, and finally fall to the beach. Not too many people on this day, but it is said that it will be different on weekends.
Postscript: Half a century later, Huafu Village is still in its own category, and its geographical environment is not easy to change. In fact, now including Huafu (2) Village and Huagui Village, the number of residents must be two or three times larger than before, but the sense of space is still full. However, there are still expansive sea views, and the air is definitely better than the urban area. Today, it is probably not planned this way.
There is a simple map at one end of the Falls Bay Park, showing that there is a passage to the Cyberport, and the other side can walk to Stanley, which is a bit attractive, or try it out. Huafu Village is finally not so isolated from the world, and it is quite convenient to access. If you have never been there, it is worth a visit.
