Kai Tak is actually an old airport in Hong Kong. In 2013, it was converted into a cruise terminal, and Hong Kong International Airport was moved to Chek Lap Kok. This move not only made the facilities of Hong Kong Airport more complete, but also made it difficult for planes to take off and land. greatly reduced. On October 11, 1989, the then Hong Kong Governor Sir David Wilson announced the "Port and Airport Development Strategy" and decided to build new ports, airports and related supporting facilities, including the "Rose Garden Project" called "Rose Garden Project". core plan.

Personally, Ben Xiong does not like the shape of the Kai Tak Cruise Terminal very much, but he is very supportive of the relocation of Hong Kong Airport, and also likes the current international airport. If the airport had not been moved to Chek Lap Kok back then, the flight to Hong Kong would have to be driven by the best pilots, because it was too difficult for the plane to land in Hong Kong at Kai Tak Airport, which is located in the city center. At the same time, because the airport is located in the city center, it not only affects the lives of nearby residents (such as noise pollution), but also limits the height of nearby buildings. All along, Hong Kong is very expensive and has a good environment with only typhoons and no other natural disasters such as earthquakes for many years. The development of buildings at high altitudes has become an inevitable answer. If the airport continues to stay next to residential buildings, unless the building Height, otherwise tall buildings will definitely prevent the plane from landing.

However, Chek Lap Kok is reclaimed land, and now the Hong Kong International Airport is facing another problem: subsidence. This part may have a commentary time in the future, and now we return to the theme.

However, as luxury cruise ships become larger and larger, more and more luxury cruise ships are With a displacement of more than 100,000 tons, large cruise ships visiting Hong Kong can only dock at the Kwai Chung Container Terminal . Think about it, if you are a ship passenger, when you berth at a new location, you will see the full industrial atmosphere. It does affect your perception of Hong Kong. Therefore, in the Kai Tak development plan , the cruise terminal is one of the first-phase projects.

However, everything has its pros and cons. Ben Xiong, who likes history, is still sad about the new way of using the land in Kai Tak. In particular, in the days of Kai Tak Airport, there were many streets named after various aircraft models in the area, but now most of the streets have disappeared. The remaining Qidong Road became part of Chengqi Road, and now only Harmony Road (named after Harmony Airliner) and World Fortune Road remain.

On the other hand, under such a plan, does this piece of history with a historical flavor really return the land to the people of Hong Kong? Or is the land just part of a Hong Kong business? In the past, the Hong Kong government emphasized that the design of Kai Tak Square can achieve resident interaction and good-neighborliness. However, after the completion of private residences, the surrounding areas of the estates were sealed with fences and CCTVs were installed. A gated community can be seen but not accessible.” On the contrary, the public housing part can feel the public space and people-to-people interaction. The contrast is very stark. On the other hand, the supporting facilities for arriving at this land are insufficient. For the time being, there are only a few roads and means of transportation connected. Generally, people who arrive at this leisure terminal land come by car. So what about in the future? It remains to be seen what Ben Bear thinks.
