【Hong Kong Gay Film Festival】Program Recommendation
This year's 33rd Hong Kong Gay Film Festival will be held from September 17 to October 1. It will continue to collect as many as 32 gender/gender niche films from around the world, depicting the beauty of the rainbow with light and shadow. opening movie
"The moment I met the fragrance of flowers for the first time"
Following the screenplay of "Dear Egg Man's Diary", Deng Yihan directed his debut film "The Moment of the First Time I Met the Fragrance of Flowers", which received rave reviews and participated in the Tokyo Film Festival and the London Gay Film Festival. Yimin, whose husband is often on business trips and takes care of his son alone, meets Tingting, a junior in the volleyball team, and is rescued from a boring marriage. Reuniting in the era of legalization of same-sex marriage in Taiwan, do you have the courage to admit their feelings this time and rewrite the belongings of the rest of your life?
"Swimming Boys"
The other opening film, "The Swimmer," which won the Best Actor award at the Jerusalem Film Festival, tells the story of the lead actor, Erez, who takes on Nevo at a summer training camp for an Olympic ticket. Handsome and talented, Nevo unleashes Erez's hidden desires, but their respective coaches ban romances with rivals! Erez wants to win medals, but can't help but feel excited! ?

"When Girls Love"
This year's closing film is "Girl Picture" from Finland, which depicts three girls with completely different personalities experiencing the struggles and confusions of youth in the form of a weekly diary. Facing the yearning for love and the exploration of sex, they are frank and honest; The shape is bright and three-dimensional, the dialogue is humorous and funny, and the plot is not conventional. After the world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival at the beginning of the year, it was highly praised and won the audience's vote award.
"Lonely Little Fresh Meat"
The other closing film is "Lonesome" from Australia. This year, it has participated in the Sydney Film Festival, Seattle International Film Festival, San Francisco Gay Film Festival and Los Angeles Gay Film Festival. It tells the story of a man who fled to Sydney from a small country in order to escape a scandal; a man who wanted to get rid of loneliness in a big city - two lonely little fresh meat, instantly ignited the fire of love. Can they overcome their unease and let the other person take over their hearts;
New theme: Gay Games Special
This year's IFFAM has a special new theme, "The Gay Games Special", in response to the theme of "Unity in Diversity" of the 11th Gay Games to be held in Hong Kong in 2023. In addition to the opening film "Swimming Boys' Team", the festival also brings The other two sports-related works are In From The Side, which is about the passionate encounter of South London Gay Rugby teammates, and the record of Cambodia’s football-loving transgender and multi-gender football teams. A little bit of life, "Lotus Sports Club", looks at gay life from the perspective of sports.
Director of Focus: Yun Xiang
The "Focus Director" of this year's Hong Kong LGBT Film Festival is Hong Kong independent director Yun Xiang. Since 2008, he has collaborated with veteran filmmaker Lau Kwok Cheong for his first work "A City Without Wilds", that is, he has started his gay film journey. With the largest scale of male sex, nudity and sex, he boldly pushed the limits of the audience and became the most representative gay filmmaker. His works have been selected for many international film festivals such as Berlin, and won the "Queer Hugo" and "Artistic Achievement Award" at the 49th Chicago International Film Festival.
Special Introduction: Gender Studies Documentary Who Confused Me
This year's "Special Introduction" screened the documentary Esther Newton Made Me Gay, which won the Best Documentary Feature at the 2022 Provence International Film Festival. It tells the story of cultural anthropologist and gender studies scholar Esther Newton from the 1950s Began to study the identity and gender identity of drag queens, and is still committed to researching gender issues at the age of 80. He also discusses trans-masculinity as a butch.
The winning works of the first short film scriptwriting competition are released, and the second one will be held simultaneously
Last year, the Hong Kong LGBT Film Festival held the first short film scriptwriting competition, and the response was overwhelming. After strict selection, Xie Xilang's "One Breath" and Lin Zeming's "Zero Thirty" won respectively. The two works have unique original styles and skills. Sophisticated and delicate, with unforgettable emotions, it truly reflects the life of Hong Kong's sexual and gender minorities.
Wondering how good an award-winning short screenplay is? The "Short Film Script Reading Workshop" will be held at Kino Lounge of Eaton HK on September 18. You can participate in the script reading together and chat with the award-winning screenwriters. (Registration has started)
The film festival will hold the second short film screenwriting competition to encourage new amateur screenwriters to submit screenplay stories with creativity, originality and heartfelt emotion. / Don't be a minority voice and culture. Free Screening Symposium
Before the official start of this year's IFFAM, there will be a free screening forum to kick off! The documentary film "Forever Queer" about the lives of Chinese sexual minorities in Hong Kong will be screened. After the screening, you can communicate with the protagonists and the behind-the-scenes team to warm up.
