Those who applaud the war are actually pitiful. You will understand after reading Sui Jianguo's works.
In my last article, "A Year of Tragedy Asks the Source of Tragedy," I talked about tragedy. The root of tragedy is ignorance, that is, lack of understanding or lack of information, failure to distinguish the distinctions, connect the connections, and fail to "be what it is and what it is", for example, The tragedy of Nietzsche, the man who applauds war, is due to the misplacement of power as a value as the supreme end, the will to power, but in the ontological sense, power is only a means, not a Purpose. The tragedies we are now experiencing—plague, war, and almost inevitable famine—are nothing more than a magnified version of the tragedy of Nietzschean egocentrism, and philosophy begins with “knowing ignorance” (Socrates), It is precisely because of knowing one's own ignorance and one's prejudice that the motivation to seek "being qua being" arises in order to avoid the recurrence of tragedy and "eternal reincarnation". Philosophy is not needed and cannot be born in the presence of an "all-knowing and all-powerful" God and one who "thinks the truth is in his grasp or perfect" (has not yet hit the southern wall or woke up from a dream).
At present, as one can see, there seems to be a "philosophical fever" emerging, but as Hegel said, "Minerva's owl takes off at dusk", and now it is deep in the "darkest hour", and then It's a bit late to seek philosophy, which belongs to "I don't usually burn incense, and I'm eager to crawl." Unfortunately, this is the norm in human society so far. Fortunately, the world is big enough that there will always be "owls" that take off before the night comes. They can perceive the coming of the night better than most people, and are struggling to find the way to the dawn. Obviously, such a process itself is very tragic, and as a result, philosophy cannot exert its greatest potential - "preventing problems before they happen" and "preventing diseases with superior medical treatment", so it can only play a role in "repairing the dead". out of action.
Of course, "philosophy craze" itself is not a bad thing, it shows that more and more people are "waking up", the illusion of "time is quiet" has been shattered, the things that once thought were solid have vanished, the world is accelerating and shaking, "living It is not easy to get down”, so we have to seek deeper and higher cognition and concepts so as to achieve “what it is and what it should be”, at least first in thinking clearly to see the “amplitude” of the disaster. But unfortunately, at least as of now, it's a philosophical craze that doesn't have a philosophical character, like those loves without true love (figurative love). Why do you say that?
This is because, just as people who have never owned a genuine LV bag often cannot tell the difference between the real one and the high imitation, those who are following the philosophical craze often cannot tell the difference between the real philosophy and the pseudo-philosophy. At present, only the history of philosophy or philosophy (philosophology) is popular in the market instead of real philosophy (philosophy), and only academic philosophers (philosophologists) are famous instead of real philosophers (philosopher). The latter is like musicology to music, art history to art, literary criticism to creative writing, and film criticism to film directors. Eunuchs talk about sex". Attempting to seek philosophy from the history of philosophy or academic philosophers is bound to lead to the opposite. Haven't heard of "philosophy is dead"? So, isn't this tragic gesture of being indistinguishable between "death and life" or even a bit of necrophilia?
Then the question must come, you must ask: where is the philosophicalness? My answer is: Just as a person's past (history) cannot be equated with the person's present and future, philosophy must have contemporaneity or present and future, then it must be in each person's life itself The deepest and highest point is in each person's own "innocent heart" (Mencius) or "children's heart" (Li Zhi). However, the problem comes again. Most people live too mediocre to reach the deepest and highest points of their lives, just like they usually have sex but always have no orgasm, or have completely lost or abandoned them. He has learned his own "nature", "innocent heart" and "childish innocence", that is, "Don't lose, don't forget, never leave or give up" in "The Story of the Stone". Never fake innocence is the original heart of the first thought. If you lose your childlike innocence, you will lose your sincerity; if you lose your sincerity, you will lose your true person. If people are not true, they will no longer have a beginning." It's fake... the whole field is fake, so why don't dwarves argue", which is what Cao Xueqin said, "When the real is fake, the fake is real, and when the fake is real, the real is fake." hometown". Today's catchphrase is "children can distinguish right from wrong, adults only see the pros and cons", but as everyone knows, this is neither a real "adult" ("adults, who do not lose their innocence") nor do they understand the real "adult". "Pros and Cons" and "Right and Wrong" are actually overall, long-term, and sustainable "pros and cons". Egoism, short-sightedism and opportunism that abandon the concept of right and wrong will only be tragic self-rewarding, full of Losing everything is "ridiculous, and in the end it's all about making wedding clothes for others", in the words of Joseph Campbell, "like climbing to the top of a ladder only to find that you're leaning against the wrong wall."
If you are still insisting on being a "minority" who asks what is right and wrong, and want to unify your life into a unique whole with the correct view of right and wrong as the criterion (principle), then you still have a "childlike innocence" (Philosophical heart) and live philosophically, sooner or later you will meet philosophy and even reinvent it (“philosophy is dead” since Nietzsche, who was “anti-rational, unfactual, super-good and evil”), if you live long enough . Obviously, you want to shorten the process and look for it in the most outstanding art of the time, to be precise, in the work of the most outstanding contemporary artists. Because, the most outstanding and real art must be, as Li Zhi said, "the words of a child's innocence", or as Rilke said, "what an artist wants to express is his own uniqueness", "what is in ourselves" Unique, no one understands, or should even understand. So, as it is, as our individual madness, it has to go into the work, so to speak, to justify it in the work, to show its own laws, It seems to be born, formless and formless, until it manifests itself in the clarity of art".
Where, then, is the real "philosophical" to be found? Then look for it in the most outstanding contemporary art, to be precise, in the works of the personality form of the most outstanding contemporary artist, because the most outstanding art, that is, the real art, must be as Li Zhi said. "Children's innocence speaks out", or as Rilke said, "What an artist wants to express is his own uniqueness", "The uniqueness in ourselves is something that no one can understand, or even should understand. Therefore, if It is so, as our individual madness, that it must enter the work, so to speak, to make it right in the work, to show its own laws, as if innate, formless, until manifested in the clarity of art.” , In this context, we may be able to understand a little bit about the reason why Cao Xueqin wrote the heart song of "The Story of the Stone": "The paper is full of absurd words, a handful of bitter tears! The author is crazy, who can understand the taste?"
In my personal opinion, Mr. Sui Jianguo is one of the most philosophical contemporary artists in China. After reading his works, you will also be able to see the general form of the tragic structure we are trapped in. There will be so many people applauding the war." The question is clear at a glance. Of course, if you're sharp enough, there's another question: where to find "philosophical philosophy", that is, "true philosophy" instead of fake and shoddy stuff? Because, without this "philosophical philosophy", it is difficult to gain insight, especially to understand the philosophical itself systematically.
Then, I can only say modestly - you can also understand it as an advertisement (see the poster at the end of the article): Come here, this is a world of new philosophy, which can bring you a new perspective to re-evaluate the world , to see through the ghosts, the fakes and the clichés. As the saying goes, "don't look at advertising, look at the efficacy", or "don't believe, go to verify". Next, let's take a look at Mr. Sui Jianguo's representative works from the perspective of this new philosophy and analyze "Why are there so many people applauding the war" as shown in the title.
When I saw Mr. Sui Jianguo's work, I was very, very shocked and excited. This is because this work so intuitively, vividly and vividly expresses a realization that I have come to after thinking for a long time, that is, the personality form and psychological state (“National People’s Republic of China”) have been taught by Confucian culture since Confucius advocated “self-restraint and restoration of propriety”. sex"). In this regard, Geng's Theorem in the late Ming Dynasty also had a clear understanding. After thinking about the "Four Books" and "Five Classics", he suddenly understood, "Confirming that the Confucian benevolence is selflessism, and Confucius said that Chengren is to turn the self into nothingness" ( "The Fifteen Years of Wanli"). We all know that this "turning the self into nothingness" actually means that any individuality or uniqueness will inevitably face the siege of "negativity" (like arrows or nails) from all sides. , the consequence is that each person's soul dies and then becomes one-sided and unanimous, and each of us must have different degrees of experience in this process. But from the psychological knowledge we have mastered today, the "self" will not really turn into "nothingness", but will leave psychological trauma, emotional stasis and even personality distortion (even "anti-social personality"). , if no export or transformation can be found), and Mr. Sui Jianguo's "殛" is an artistic reproduction of this process of "cannibalism".
Later, I saw that "Death" was a work created and completed by Mr. Sui Jianguo in 1996, and the form of the exhibition in 2006 became a nail rolled inward. Mr. Sui Jianguo's own artistic explanation is: "I think I have a lot of poison in my body, but I am very similar to this piece of rubber. When a nail pierces in, I can bear it. I absorb the nail, and after absorbing it, I become It has to be a little aggressive. I think this is the attitude of the so-called Chinese docile people, including intellectuals and even bureaucrats, in social life for thousands of years.”
Afterwards, Mr. Sui Jianguo created Mantle and Mantle (usually called "Zhongshan Suit"), which can be regarded as the next stage of the disaster, both in terms of time and logic, and it is not only the "death of individuality" (the death of human beings) After the death), the thousands of people who spoke in unison were also a uniform and well-established image of power. As Sui Jianguo himself said: "Every Chinese wears an invisible Chinese tunic suit." Mr. Sui Jianguo is more brilliant in that he put Chinese tunic suits are also worn on Westerners (or symbols). In fact, Western culture also has its own "self-restraint and revival of propriety" (the "proprietary" in the West is Christianity and rationality, and the Chinese propriety is Confucianism and family affection), and Nietzsche - this man who applauded the war - is both a victim of it. He is also his rebel-turning the nails all over his body from "inward" to "outward", but unfortunately, the former dragon slayer later became the incarnation of the evil dragon. Therefore, it is best to also put on a "tunic suit" for Nietzsche, who is the embodiment of the image of power.
From this, we can also suggest that when Mr. Sui Jianguo's work "Death" is exhibited again, its form might as well roll up the nails outwards. It is a new stage of outward negativity and aggression after passing through the stage of "Chinese tunic suit". In my opinion, this is the personality mechanism of "those who cry out for war". Therefore, these people are actually pitiful in their early stages. They are all "poor people" who have been denied, bullied, and violated. Therefore, it is meaningless to call them "stupid X". Instead, it is the fundamental way to use the mentality of "comprehension with sympathy" and to change the standard culture of "self-restraint and rites" of the Chinese people and even all mankind at a higher level. , The world is right. Otherwise, this cultural system itself will continue to mass-produce "people who cheer for war".
Sui Jianguo said: "In each of my works, the social background factors at that time can be clearly found." The experience of being bound, trapped, and tortured has always run through his artistic creation. For example, "Earth" and "Made in China" are also metaphors for the systematic tragedy and suffering we are encountering today. Perhaps, you can think of Tan Sitong's "Breaking the Snare" or Lu Xun's "Dark Room". "Scream".
But Sui Jianguo did not become that aggressive personality or those who "applaud the war", but was able to use art to transform and express his traumatic experience. In this way, I completed a transcendence of myself, emptied my traumatic body, and instead achieved the "self-realization" of nature and myself and the "unity of matter and self". In the name of one of his own exhibitions, it can be called "incarnate enlightenment".
