In Gitcoin Grants 19 , there is also no round specially prepared for DeSci projects. According to the author's record on November 16, 2023, more than 260 different projects participated in the entire Web3 community and Education round. The author used the keywords "DeSci" and "Science" to find corresponding projects in the Web3 community and Education round and made a brief introduction to each project.
ResearchHub Foundation - Peer Review
In the traditional scientific research field, academic works before publication are called preprints of academic works. It requires third-party independent scientific researchers to conduct professional reviews of preprints of academic works to ensure that the content is correct, neutral and meets the publication requirements of academic works. This process is called peer review.
Traditionally, this type of peer review is performed with unreasonably low paid work or even for free, which results in the peer review taking a long time. Because scientific researchers need to take personal time away from work to perform this kind of unpaid work. The efficiency and quality can be imagined.
ResearchHub Foundation has already been introduced in the Gitcoin Grants Beta round. This is a platform that promotes paid peer review of preprints of academic works . It hopes to provide paid incentives for peer review of academic works on scientific research projects before they are published, so as to achieve more effective, high-quality and paid reviews of scientific research papers when they are published. .
From Beta round, GG18 to GG19, it has participated. So in this review, we link it to the snapshot motion voting and whether past promises have been fulfilled.

In May 2023, they raised a total of $2500U from the Beta round. In July, seven people voted through snapshot and unanimously approved that all the funds raised will be used as an incentive of $150U per copy to promote paid scientific research peer review (Peer review) of pre-prints of academic works . $2500 is enough to motivate 16 different pre- prints of academic works to undergo peer review to achieve a reasonable and high standard of scientific research peer review.
In August of the same year, they raised a total of $785.32U from GG18. In October, through a snapshot vote, the entire amount was unanimously approved to be allocated to the paid review of five different pre- prints of academic works at an incentive of $150U per copy.
Region: North America
Conclusion : Your small donation equivalent to or greater than one US dollar is indeed promoting the paid work of a group of scientific researchers who quietly conduct rigorous reviews of academic works before publication.
OpSci: Open Science on Web3
Before the advent of blockchain, the traditional scientific research sector had already created a faction called Open Science to promote the disclosure of information in the scientific research sector. This is also the predecessor of DeSci and even one of the main sources of DeSci's decentralized spirit.
The OpSci project has received financial assistance from Protocol Labs, Gitcoin, Mask Network, and the Ocean Protocol. The total funding received is 250,000 US dollars, which can be said to be confident.
It mainly provides a decentralized database, connects different DeSci projects, provides Fellowship for scientific researchers to promote Web3 and DeSci from the fundamentals of scientific research, and the annual DeSci Denver conference.
At present, more than 100 scientific researchers have registered, 250GB of open scientific research data stored in filecoin, and 20+TB of files stored in sub-directories.
Region: North America
Conclusion : It is a quite mature DeSci project. If you want to support a leading project, have a good track record, long-term investment (33 months), and cover different DeSci dimensions, it will be your cup of tea.
Decentralized Science on Gitcoin
In the Gitcoin Grants Beta round in May 2023, DeSci, as one of the rounds, attracted my attention and opened my understanding of different DeSci projects. At that time, more than 65 projects participated, and 220 small donors made more than 800 donations worth approximately 14,000 U.
Relive the grand occasion: https://explorer.gitcoin.co/#/round/1/0x6e8dc2e623204d61b0e59e668702654ae336c9f7
After the Beta round was held, DeSci round’s multi-signature wallet still had 15K USD. So before GG19 was held this time, a group of enthusiastic DeSci contributors formed the DeSci round Q1 2024 preparatory group, and I was fortunate to be one of them.
The preparatory team uses DeSci on Gitcoin and hopes to raise 10K USD in GG19 to reach a 25K matching pool to welcome the DeSci community round in Q1 of 2024.

Conclusion : Contributors and the community develop under the Ecosystem’s Grants. Now it is time for us to contribute our own strength to support the new development of the Ecosystem with the community!
The DeSci Journal
In the second article of DeSci's self-study journey , we see that the traditional scientific research field still uses multiple centralized giant platforms to dominate the publication of papers in the scientific research field. Ironically, as the author of a scientific research paper, he does not have the copyright to the relevant paper.
It is this problem that DeSci Journal wants to solve. By establishing a decentralized scientific research paper platform. On this chain, the three parties of the platform, authors, editors and reviewers, conduct peer review of scientific research. Authors can retain the copyright of their papers, and different members can allocate funds through smart contracts. What is quietly promoting DeSci Journal is a community called deScier.
In May of this year, deScier ranked second in Brazil in order to promote DeSci. Unicamp, a top 200 prestigious university in the world, held a forum to discuss the future development of decentralized scientific research (DeSci).
fund application︰
They are using the funds brought by GG15 and other funds to carry out basic construction. They are expected to officially launch the first issue of DeSci Journal in December this year, which will include ten different scientific research articles.

Region: Central and Southern United States
Conclusion : Another DeSci project that is growing steadily and rapidly. If you feel sad about centralized publishing, at least the publisher will let the author own the copyright. Your small donation will help scientific research authors regain their self-esteem and their copyright in the Web3 DeSci community.
DeSci Landscape analysis
In May 2023, there were more than 80 DeSci projects participating in the DeSci feature round of Gitcoin Grants Beta ground. DeSci Landscape sent out questionnaires to each project, hoping to study the overview of the entire DeSci ecosystem at that time.
One month later, they published the first DeSci Landscap Analysis: Exploring Crowdfunding Effects On Project Development research report, which focuses on understanding the impact of crowdfunding on DeSci projects, the trends of DeSci projects, and what achievements each project has achieved through Gitcoin Grants.
One of these points is worth sharing with you who are reading the DeSci project introduction in Chinese:
"Among the survey questions received, the key regions for DeSci project development include North America (78%) and Europe (41%), followed by Latin America (26%), South America (17%) and Africa (12%) %), and the development in other areas is less than 10%.”
That's right, the Asian region doesn't even have a name, it just belongs to less than 10% of other regions.
Fortunately, the funds they raised at GG18 were enough to cover their operating expenses. In this round of GG19, they plan to conduct the second phase of research, try their best to cover different DeSci projects, and also use data from the Twitter API to study how each project interacts with their fans on Twitter. The following three points will be the focus of their second phase research:
Research on the context of DeSci ecology
Project Analysis
Interaction of DeSci social ecology
Region: Across different regions
Conclusion : If you are already a member of DeSci, then you cannot miss the study of DeSci Landscape analysis. It is like our family doctor, conducting an annual check-up for the entire DeSci ecosystem. If you want to further support and encourage them, you can collect their first-stage reports through Mirror.
Desci Africa
The introduction of DeSci Africa can be found in the introduction of the GG18 round. As the name implies, its main focus is to develop DeSci in Africa. After comparing their GG18 applications , DeSci Africa
Attended ETHSafari and participated in discussions about DeSci
Published 4 blogs related to DeSci on DeSci
Help promote a DeSci event in Nairobi, Africa, co-organized by AnthenaDAO and DeSci Youths
Update Twitter
Through DeSci Africa's Twitter, you will find that they have begun to establish different communities, such as Public Goods Africa, DeSci Youths, DeFi Africa, etc. Public Goods Africa also held the African round of Public Goods Round at GG19.
Region: Africa
Conclusion : It has regional attributes, is based in Africa, and faces the world. If the world in your mind is not a binary polarized doomsday world, then a small donation to the DeSci project in non-mainstream regions will bring the pluralistic world of your dreams one step closer to reality.
Desci Youths
This is a DeSci project for the younger generation. Although the founder Victor Caproverse is from Africa, his goal is the new generation of DeSci around the world. How to educate the new generation about the spirit of DeSci and lead them step by step into the world of DeSci.
The community operation and publicity of the project will become very important indicators. Currently there are 450 official fans, and the Discord named De-wellpunk is working hard to operate.
An African university tour is planned to attract university students to have more awareness about DeSci
Monthly Twitter voice event Science beyond the lab
Established a platform to showcase DeSci and Refi, exhibiting more than 100 different projects
Region: Africa
Conclusion : This is an area that no other DeSci project has been involved in yet. I have high hopes for their African university tour. And how to find and onboard the right young generation to join DeSci in an era full of endless temptations and information explosion will not be an easy task. Your small support will help the future of DeSci.
Desci Asia
DeSci Asia hopes to connect DeSci friends in Asia, promote DeSci education and assist the development of the DeSci community in Asia.
DeSci Asia was established in August 2023 and successfully raised funds through the GG18 Global Chinese Community . With the support of GG18 ($630U), they held the first hybrid DeSci meeting in Chiang Mai in October. This is also the first DeSci event in Chiang Mai that the author knows of. 20 people participated in the event offline and 10 people participated online. The related preparation Telegram channel will also be updated later on with different news about Thailan DeSci, hoping to become a small seed for the development of Thailand DeSci.
In addition to offline activities, DeSci Asia also holds regular online meetings with DeSci Japan and DeSci India, and organizes Mandarin DeSci students with Uncommons. It has also promoted DeSci in Cantonese through cooperation with W3 exhibitions. I believe this will also It is the first educational event related to DeSci in Hong Kong.
Since Asian languages are diverse, translation is an indispensable part of DeSci Asia's promotion of education. It has obtained the consent of the author of DeSci Landscape analysis above to translate the first phase report into Asian languages.
In terms of community operations, the Telegram group currently has more than 100 DeSci friends from 10 different Asian regions. The multi-signature wallet is jointly managed by five different DeSci partners from Japan, India, the UK, Hong Kong and China. Recently, it has also begun to promote the registration of a member database, hoping to deeply connect different members and generate more cross-city scientific research cooperation, social connections and community development in Asia.
Region: Asia
Conclusion and remarks : The author Swift Evo is the co-founder of DeSci Asia. As the DeSci Landscape analysis study shows, DeSci resources concentrated in Asia are less than 10% of the world's. I hope that you who are learning about the development of DeSci in Chinese can support DeSci Asia and the development of DeSci in Asia with a small amount.
DeSpace QF
During the Gitcoin Grants Beta, different space projects emerged one after another. They also formed an alliance of their own, DeSpace . They have also begun to promote QF square fundraising rounds for space projects on the Gitcoin Grants platform, and currently more than 15 projects have participated.
The space projects mentioned by the author in the GG18 introduction, such as LunCo., are also involved in DeSpace QF. At GG19, they hope to receive more matching donations to support their next round of QF in 2024 and promote the development of more decentralized space programs.
They have also received commitments from Copernic Space , Lunargistics and Axiom Space to provide more support to the space projects that DeSpace QF participates in. Please pay attention to DeSpace's announcement for details.
Region: Space
Conclusion: Although we live in different areas, as long as you look up, we all live under the same sky. The decentralized space project may not be able to enjoy the fruits of the decentralized space project in our lifetime; but you and I are the planters who planted this small seed and watered it every day so that it can grow slowly.
We look forward to introducing different DeSci projects to you again in the DeSci community round three months later! !
Like my work? Don't forget to support and clap, let me know that you are with me on the road of creation. Keep this enthusiasm together!
