"11 Writing Lessons for Adults: Realizing a Life of Compound Interest for Success in Life and Work" not only teaches readers how to "write" in various aspects, such as how to choose materials, how to choose topics, to the structure of the article, etc. Detailed teaching steps, very informative, I benefited a lot.

More importantly, this book has changed a lot of my understanding of writing, and I often feel a sense of stagnation. Frankly speaking, I feel like my heart is full of arrows when I read the book. However, it is the surprise accumulated during the reading process that motivates me to share this book, and this time I will share three changes in my writing mentality.

This article mainly shares three changes in my mindset after reading this book.
1. Understand the need for public writing
2. The input effort should be solid
3. Get rid of the narrow imagination of writing

1. Why write publicly?

The author mentions three benefits of open writing

(1) Improve writing standards with the help of external pressure

Think about how to make readers understand what they want to express and improve their self-requirements.

(2) With the help of external incentives, drive yourself to write for a long time

Every time I publish an article, I can really feel the value of the article through the number of readings, the number of likes, and the feedback in the comment area.

(3) Open writing is truly complete writing

Only your words can help you build your personal brand and help you connect with people and resources. Many articles written by the author have thousands of comments, and the comments supplement the content and become part of the article.

I was a little bit resistant to writing publicly before. In addition to being afraid of negative comments affecting my mood, I only regard writing as a form of entertainment in my life. I have never thought about investing a lot of time in writing and revising, and naturally I will not think about writing publicly. Although I usually write a diary, I will start writing a complete article when I am in a good mood or when I am ready to submit a manuscript.

Why was it written publicly later?

The first idea of doing this was when I was discussing my resume with my teacher, he suggested that I could open a text account to write and accumulate into a portfolio. However, the confusion of the writing position and the personal psychological impact due to changes in the external environment, I did not do it right away. Fortunately, those emotions have been digested now, so that this account can be managed well.

I have always been envious of creators who have personal channels, community accounts, and websites. I envy that they can regularly produce high-quality content and have their own works. This kind of vision became my motivation to write openly in June and July, and I decided to start writing the project. At this time, writing (one of the entertainment) had changed into the ability to work hard, so I came to Matt City in July. .

The book mentioned: "Content is no longer a scarce commodity in this era, and writers should position themselves as content service providers , creating a better reading experience while creating high-quality content, not only making the articles worth reading, but also I want readers to have a good time reading.” Compared with my previous writings, most of them are expressions of mood, without thinking about the completeness of the structure of the article, what the readers want and so on.

These considerations become reasonable and important when you consider yourself a content server.

2. The input effort should be solid

The three core elements that support writing ability are " input", "thinking" and "output".

Input is the premise, thinking is the essence, and output is the result, all three are indispensable!

Although I usually have input, the materials are scattered everywhere and are not organized into a database. As a result, sometimes the content of the article can be put into the article at a glance, but it is discarded because I can't remember the details.

Three ways to improve typing:

(1) Improve the input intensity and insist on reading for one hour every day

It takes 15 minutes to read a 3000-word article seriously, and it takes 1 hour and 15 minutes to read five articles every day. The hard part is "persistence".

(2) Improve input standards

Don't waste time reading junk articles, clean up any low-quality accounts on your tracklist first.

(3) Improve the input effect

You can read a dozen good articles every day and forget about it. Reading is not the goal, absorbing is. The author believes that we should read with "objectives" and "expectations", and think while reading, and even take notes in the process. But I am still worried about this part. Writing notes while reading sometimes affects my reading rhythm. If you have a good method, you can share it with me! At present, I mark the parts that need to be written, and then take notes carefully when I read them for the second time.

3. Everything can be written

The third mentality change is to get rid of the narrow imagination of writing. Before, I always thought that the content needs a lot of theoretical support, and the amount of knowledge is very high, which creates the pressure of writing (thinking that I can’t do it). The author encourages us: "Anything can be written." As the book says, writing is the output of input and thought, so there is no limit.

“We have to learn to spot the thorns in the ordinary days. The thorns are the things that stir up the emotions. Those that make you touch, move, surprise, delight, and anger are the thorns, and they are the source of writing.” I am very I like the author's use of the term "thorn" to describe these moments, a feeling of being suddenly poked.

All in all, I really like this book " 11 Writing Lessons for Adults: Realizing a Compound Interest Life that Makes Life and Work Successful" , I hope you like this sharing!

Finally, I would like to ask how do you take notes while reading books? Feel free to share your method with me!
