027 | Believe in the world and question it.

This article is "12 Laws of Survival" after reading, personal opinion, welcome to question.

I've been reading this thick 12 Laws of Survival all through March, and honestly, I probably only understood 10% of it. Before reading this book, I didn't know the author Jordan Peterson at all, nor did I know his influence in the "intellectual" circle of contemporary Western society. (I found out after a little investigation that he may be "Gao Xiaosong" and "Dou Wentao" in Western society.)

Ignorance is better, giving me an objective and impartial reading experience like a blank sheet of paper.

There are three biggest takeaways from reading this book:

1. I actually read it carefully and applaud myself👏👏

2. Although most of the time I don't know what the author is talking about, but I always feel that I cannot agree with a certain point of view hidden in the core of the text 🤔️

3. It turns out that the best-selling book should be written like this😆

The second point doesn't affect my opinion that this book is a very worthwhile read , just because it makes you feel a strong "discomfort" . Occasionally reading something that makes you uncomfortable can put a lot of stress on your brain, but it can also give your mind a boost.

This book consists of 12 "laws of life", these 12 laws are:

Rule 01 ──── Stand up straight, keep your head up

Rule 02 ──── Treat yourself as you would anyone else you have a duty to help

Rule 03 ──── Make friends who want you to be better

Rule 04 ────Compare yourself with yesterday, not with others today

Rule 05 ──── Don’t let your children do things that make you hate them

Rule 06 ──── Before criticizing the world, tidy up your room

Rule 07 ──── Do what makes sense, don’t do it cheap

Rule 08 ──── Tell the truth, or at least don’t lie

Law 09 ──── Suppose the person you are listening to may know something you don’t know

Rule 10 ──── Speak with precision

Rule 11 ──── Don’t disturb your child while they are skateboarding

Rule 12 ──── When you meet a cat on the road, touch it

If you just read the text of these rules, you may think it is a kind of life guide chicken soup for the soul. You see, humans are so easy to judge. But in fact, 90% of the content of this book may have nothing to do with these titles, or the relationship between them is more subtle than you think.

The author, like a film director, has made 12 feature-length feature films. Using the method of text montage , splicing out a broader and deeper vision than the title. The beginning of each chapter is incomprehensible , but at the end it will make you think, "That's a lot of stock, so the original title means this" .

The final chapter of the book is more like a suitable "introduction" , and its content is more like what the book "really" discusses. It is also recommended that if you want to try reading this book, you can read the final chapter first.

I encourage reading , but I also encourage you to "don't obey" . No one is qualified to be a "prophet" to explain to you what the world is . Or teach you how to be yourself (there are indeed many ways worth trying, but the decision is yours). We should practice "self-interpretation" with each piece of art as we would with a work of art.

For example, I don't agree with the author's use of the "Christian ethical system" as the basis for his argument, but that doesn't mean I can't get meaningful inspiration. It's worth thinking about just "when you're bored talking, you're not listening."

Cultivating vision and aesthetics is through a lot of "seeing". Cultivating the mind is through "reading and thinking" . You can think the author wrote 400 pages of bullshit, but the minimum rule is, you have to read it.

Believe in reading and question every word you read.

Trust the world and question it.

May everyone become a better version of themselves and gain peace and love.
