Possibly the only military commentator in Hong Kong and Macau | Huang Dong's analysis with you: Huang Dong outside the military

Huang Dong's various predictions in this interview 9 years ago are generally correct, but optimistically "wrong". These contents are quite thought-provoking now...
This article is specially reprinted by Macao independent media "On All Media". Recently, we started to contribute to "On All" and launched a new subscription plan in cooperation with Patreon. At the same time, we reprinted selected articles from "On All" on Matters, so that readers from both sides of the Taiwan Strait can better understand Macau. social issues.
Our words: Huang Dong is a well-known military commentator in Hong Kong and Macau, but this exclusive interview is not about military content, but the views of a typical Macau intellectual on the local public and political situation revealed behind him, as well as an intellectual who grew up here. What are the difficulties in life. Huang Dong's various predictions in this interview 9 years ago are generally correct, but optimistically "wrong". These contents are quite thought-provoking now...

When it comes to commentators on current affairs, everyone can randomly count five or six candidates; but when it comes to "military commentators," Huang Dong is almost the only one. Everyone should listen to him to analyze the political situation, analyze new weapons, and analyze social current affairs. If Huang Dong analyzes Huang Dong, have you heard it? In this issue of "On the End" , it is a great honor to invite Huang Dong, a military commentator, to take time out of his busy schedule to share with "On the End" two or three things about his tender and tender man, and at the same time let us unravel how Huang Dong was made.

"I'm just a very ordinary, very ordinary person, just like everyone. I don't think I have anything special, or in an environment like Macau, others have given me a lot of halo, and I have heard from many citizens, the neighborhood is like this Said, because I usually like falling areas. However, I am really a very ordinary person, a very low-key person." This is Huang Dong's self-introduction.

Learning from a young age is harder than others

Huang Dong is often invited to visit by the media on both sides of the strait, and even in the United States. He is asked to comment on military affairs and current affairs. If he can have an endless stream of work, of course, he must read relevant reference books frequently and keep abreast of the latest information; however, Huang Dong is unexpected. He even told reporters that he was actually a victim of learning disabilities when he was a child.

Huang Dong, who has been fond of learning since he was a child, can’t remember what he can learn after reading for an hour, but he may not remember it even after reading ten hours. In addition, the frequent change of teachers in the fourth year of primary school made it difficult for him to adapt, and his grades fluctuated even more. He described himself as " After barely finishing primary school, middle school was completely unfinished.” From then on, he knew that his learning path was a hundred times more difficult than others, and he even felt that he could not find a way out. The head teacher at that time knew kung fu and would corporally punish students. Made him think about truancy.

Born to be afraid of things, keep a low profile, experienced school bullying

"I still remember in my first grade sheet, the teacher's comment on me was that I was good and obedient, but I was afraid of things. Just like the people in Macau, I don't make a sound and hide in a corner, avoiding some of the limelight and fire. Things, even some things that are a little more stressful, I always avoid, I don’t see the light, I’m afraid to die.” Huang Dong recalled that when he was a child, he was often the target of bullying by his classmates. He wanted to eat the leftovers of his classmates... In addition, there were classmates with complicated backgrounds in the class at that time, so that he was afraid of things, and his self-image was lower.

time to break the cocoon

It was not until he went to the mainland to study after graduating from middle school that Huang Dong knew that the world was so big.

"People have become independent, and the circle has also expanded. Not only overseas Chinese, but I have gradually established relationships with mainland students or local businessmen. Even after he graduated and returned to Macau, he felt that he was out of tune with Macau. He described Macau In fact, he was very backward more than 20 years ago. That kind of backwardness is in terms of ideas and hardware. Since then, he has become less afraid of things. After graduating from college, he went to the TV station to collect information, and he had to rely on himself for everything he needed. Going to find and ask, and the courage to contact people is also exercised.

Life hit rock bottom, I thought about suicide, an interview call saved my life

However, the trauma of his marriage failure seven or eight years ago caused Huang Dong to suffer from depression and even attempted suicide.

"Because of these things, my parents didn't give me the experience, and I didn't want to tell them for a long time, and I didn't want them to worry, so I tried my best not to think about anything... I only told them when it was really irreversible. My emotions During those six months, I was really helpless.

There are some psychiatrists now, but at that time I didn’t know how to find them, and there was nothing among my friends to talk to, and my familiar friends wouldn’t talk about these issues. Two troughs, the first time was when I was studying, and I was the kind of person who entered every second and one, and the other time was this. When I went to Kaimi (to do a show), there were several times when I was dead, I could barely speak, and even shouted to Mimic. At night is the saddest, when you will be cranky, when your family is asleep and your emotions can be released, it is easy to have an accident.

Those days have collapsed. I tried to lose control on the street. I stumbled on the street and shouted, shouting seven times a day, until there were no tears left. Finally, at the end of 2005, I went to the rooftop to learn from Leslie Cheung. I almost jumped off, but then I received a phone call from an interviewer. After pouring out, my mood calmed down a bit, and then I went back and thought about it. That visit was a phone call from Hong Kong that really lifted my emotions and saved me that time. "Later, seeing the 512 Wenchuan Earthquake, Huang Dong was even more enlightened. There is still more to contribute to his survival, and his outlook on life became more open-minded.

Coming out of setbacks willing to speak up for those under pressure

After dispelling suicidal thoughts, Huang Dong's outlook on life seemed to be enlightened. He became more and more aware of the feelings of vulnerable and helpless people, and was even willing to speak up for them when he could. "Because I understand that it is very miserable, no one will help you, this society is 'hoeing the weak to help the strong', it seems to encourage a kind of current, read a lot of books, you will get ahead, buy a lot of money, otherwise you will become a The world has fallen.

In the past, we often heard that if you don’t study well, you will sweep the streets in the future. Look how miserable it is, you are exposed to the sun and rain, and there are not many laborers... The instillation of this kind of values actually made me, and to a certain extent forced it out. Now that I know this tragic situation, I don't want this society to repeat the path I have taken before.

A society is not dominated by all smart people. Before they are smart, in fact, more green leaves are needed to support them. Our green leaves are actually a foil for these flowers and can be successful today. If there is no comparison, what is the so-called talent? "Huang Dong said a little excited.

Meet the Bole of life

Huang Dong is grateful that there are many "bole" in his life. During middle school and university, he met some teachers and classmates, and would talk to him about topics such as history and geography; in 1994, he contributed to a columnist in a Hong Kong magazine, who Knowing that this person then introduced him to the president and published his articles; later, he also participated in some international military forums in Hong Kong, and in the 1996 Baodiao incident, he drafted a military plan for Baotou. Diaoists, from which they met like-minded people from both sides of the strait, including military, civil, and military magazines, gradually became famous and became the "best choice" for the media to seek military opinions. Since then, they have been dubbed "military commentators" by the media. this name. He laughed: "The submission at that time really supported me through that period of unemployment."

The biggest bole: from parents

Huang Dong emphasized that all success must have a certain part of luck, but this luck cannot depend on waiting, and must be combined with his own efforts. He agrees that he has some opportunities, but also emphasizes that he knows how to seize these opportunities. And if he talked about how he fell in love with the military at the beginning, he made it clear that the biggest Bole was his parents!

"I started getting in touch with aircraft cannons when I was three years old, because there was not much entertainment at that time. When I was a child, I couldn't even watch TV. It was only in middle school. Before I knew these (aircraft cannons), it was my father who came back from work every day. In fact, he didn’t know much about drawing on stacks of scrap paper, but he didn’t have the money to buy books, so he drew with his hands “This is a plane, this is a cannon, this is a tank…” Plus my family worked in a theater, so I drew by hand. Since I was a child, I have seen thousands of movies, whether Chinese or foreign. In the 20 years after the Second World War, many war movies have been made. I have watched a lot of them and played them. Whether it is rational or rational, I am highly concerned about the film industry both at home and abroad.”

To oppose war, we must understand war thoroughly

Huang Dong believed that in order to oppose war, one must first understand war. The deeper the understanding, the more thoroughly the opposition will be, and the world will be saved.

"I used to be a militant, but I didn't realize it until the Sino-Japanese Diaoyutai dispute last year... Every 20 or 30 years, my view of war grows. The last leap was in 1982, during the Falklands War. Understand why the UK and Argentina are fighting over an island for no reason? It's a change of mind, not a sudden... Of course there will be a sudden enlightenment... But before this sudden, you have to accumulate a lot of things to produce That change."

He recalled that his family was not rich when he was a child, and his parents could only buy books for him by chance, but they could not replace the plane cannon drawn by his father's hands. Although it was only some rough drawings, it was enough to call him, starting from sensibility, slowly It's actually a very long process to find information on his own when he grows up, to have a rational understanding, to understand what war is, and to develop to the point where he wants to oppose war today.

He stressed that his parents were ordinary workers. But those from left-wing families are inherently more politically sensitive than their contemporaries. "Everyone understands the history of the Cultural Revolution, but at the same time it also cultivated a group of people, such as many social elements in Hong Kong, who came out of Bao Diao back then."

Laying your own path also affirms your self-worth

Huang Dong said that when he was a child, the school often had quiz competitions on current affairs. "I don't need rote memorization, I can already tell the current affairs knowledge such as the gross domestic product of the year." In contrast, his classmates looked at the game as if they were facing a great enemy, and his history subject also Always at the top, this is the most satisfying thing in his study life.

He believes that everyone must find the satisfaction of survival, and even the lowest people should try their best to explore their own advantages and downplay their shortcomings. He bluntly said that his current job allows him to find and affirm his own value. So even now he spends a lot of time every day, watching different information and keeping first-hand news, he still enjoys it very much and enjoys it very much. Sharing the knowledge he has gained with others feels that this is a kind of motivation.

"I hope Macau 'Snowden' comes out of the establishment"

When it comes to "monitoring disturbances", Huang Dong emphasized that he is a low-key person for being known as "Macau Snowden", and this essence has never changed. It's just that he was forced to come this far, because he was not the only one facing such a problem, but it was common among his peers.

"I am not the Snowden of Macau, and I also hope that a 'Snowden' in Macau will come out of the establishment and tell everyone the truth. The reason why I came out is whether it is eavesdropping or other injustices. Well, actually, I really want to live peacefully and bury the rest of my life. But there are some things that you can't pick up. Even if it has reached this point, will others not visit me? No. (Talk to the media ) used to establish a good relationship, or like the interaction between me and the citizens, they treat me as one of their members, I have no reason because some people don't like to listen, so I BYEBYE with the citizens and never contact them. "

He believes that instead of working so hard as a human being, it is better to maintain a normal life and a normal circle happily, "Anyway, what I am most proud of is that I am harmless and extraordinary, and those who can help others are within my ability. help."

He feels that what the current government lacks the most is different opinions. He believes that it is inevitable to offend people when doing comment work, but the public's evaluation and the real consideration of interests from the perspective of social development are his biggest considerations: "I have not abused verbal violence, and I will compare my heart to heart. If it is another person, if he If he is responsible to the society, he will do the same. There are many commentators around him like this. Macau people are also relatively low-key, and generally do not take the initiative to walk out. I am not particularly active, but every time I have Some public activities, such as forums and demonstrations, as a citizen, why don’t I do it under the premise of complying with the law and the Basic Law?” He said that during these processes, he will also recognize like-minded friends, which in disguise is an added value. .

He did not understand why the main officials still resisted and avoided dialogue with the public, believing that this would not only be out of touch with the public sentiment, but would not be successful at the same time. "Whether it is an official or a person, the most important thing is to act righteously, to be righteous, society is sick, and we should get rid of the disease as soon as possible, instead of blaming us commentators or those who speak out for the public. Citizen, I think this is putting the cart before the horse." Huang Dong said again with excitement.

Sticking to telling the truth is "harder" than anyone else

When asked, as a commentator, if he was able to "go ahead" and "courageously" like this, would he ever "confuse the bottom" or want to back down? Huang Dong smiled and said, "Of course there is!" However, he is grateful that with the deterioration of the environment, he has become closer to his family. Everyone's thoughts are more consistent than before, and they are more tolerant and understanding of what I am doing now. It's a lot less stressful for me. But at the same time, external pressures have also increased.

He said that since the political reform consultation "+2+2+100" last year, the atmosphere of commenting in the society is obviously "two worlds". The suppression, he said indignantly, "Absolutely abnormal! Why do we have to bear this kind of pressure? You don't like to silence the media? What the world?!"

Therefore, he felt that even if he was going to take some pressure, he had to speak up.

"I really want to leave, but it's getting more and more boring. The environment in Macau is getting narrower and narrower. After the opening of gambling rights, the space for speech should be wider and wider. There is no reason to turn around and turn around. Narrow? But in fact, it is indeed worse than before. If we don’t fight for the space for speech, what will happen to the voices of citizens of other different sectors? There must be problems in society.”

Of course, he also faced doubts: "'Eating salted fish makes you thirsty', we have eaten a lot of salted fish, should we drink more water? Otherwise, too much salt will accumulate in our body and we will become seriously ill. We have eaten a lot of salted fish. It doesn’t matter if you are sick, but what if everyone around you is sick? Because other than the press, the same is true for other fields, because everyone has a share of freedom of speech and freedom of the press. In fact, in normal society, the same as the air Like water, it is necessary for life.

But Macau is so strange, when people are castrated to be someone's patent, we have no way to accept this so-called reality. "The most important thing is that everyone think more and don't follow other people's opinions. When the election is approaching, you must keep your brains in mind. Don't think that if I have a meal, I will go for it. If you die, whether you study or be a person, the most important thing is The important thing is to use your own brains more and use less people's mouths, or people's brains, so that society will progress."

Huang Dong: Parliamentarians are sacred jobs that cannot be tarnished

Huang Dong revealed that he has been invited to run for elections in these Legislative Council elections. Well, don't hurt anyone. He believes that being a member of parliament is a very sacred job, and it should not be purely "eating food". It is necessary to have a conscience. It cannot be purely for money, or to run for election just to be called "Mr. Wong".

Huang Dong hopes that the congressmen will ask themselves, apart from speaking out for themselves, for the community, and for the interests of the class, what have they done for the public? What did you say? He believes that the feelings of a member of parliament to the public cannot be created overnight. From the day you are elected, what you have done in the four years, these concepts are gradually formed, and the public does not need to read a lot of books, you can see it, so, The best thing to do is to integrate words and deeds, and combine them with his usual work, all for the sake of the citizens and the sustainable development of the city of Macau.

"I believe in a word, the eyes of the masses are sharp. When citizens do not vote, they are not often misled by others, and they will understand that although they may not be able to speak a lot of truth, they use life and political Look at a certain member. Or they will remember what they have helped them. So I believe that Minzhi will wake up, although the process is very long. From the 123 incident in 1966 to the present, we have our special district feelings, Minzhi It is a fact that the growth of the people is slow in imagination. But in the more than ten years after returning to China, I think it is not slow, and I am optimistic. But why are so many people misled? The problem is that our society has not emphasized it from small to large. Even suppressing independent thinking, not advocating independent judgment, and lacking even this most basic civic education, the problem becomes even more prominent.”

Men forty "one boat"

When talking about his life coming here and his vision for the next ten years, Huang Dong described himself with the movie "A Boat in the Ocean", believing that there are too many unknown factors and decisions in life. He believes that he is "forty and not confused", and said that he will still work hard but will not force anything, such as entering the Legislative Council, or clinging to certain things. "I think starting from the heart and living the life you want is the most ideal state. I also hope that ten years from now, I can still stick to this idea."

As for the prospect of Macau in ten years, he summed it up in four words: "living and working in peace and contentment", but he also admitted that it is impossible to do so now. He is pessimistic about the social situation in Macau within ten years, including the establishment of civil society and political reform, and he has no hope. Even for many people's livelihood matters, he expects to urge improvement because there is no powerful ruling pressure. In ten years he doesn't see anything that can change, it will only get worse.

"But in the long run, I am still optimistic. I believe that as more sober young people gradually come forward in ten years, opportunities in Macau will appear, but the process will not be completed in one step." He also estimated that the society will face a When there is a big change, the establishment will not sit still, they will be forced to improve, and the whole social atmosphere will be more active.

If everything could never be...

Nostalgic for the ups and downs of the past, Huang Dong looked calm. When asked if everything went back to the beginning, would he choose?

"I think, I will still choose the current path, because I still enjoy the current process and training. I used to say that "reading is not the three major harms", I have avoided harming others, and I have not harmed the society, which is considered a contribution I have gained a little power and enjoyment. For other industries, it may not be able to bring this satisfaction. The interaction with the citizens has given me a real position, as if there is no second way to serve me. I feel that it is precisely because of what will happen tomorrow, we do not know, it is precisely because of this challenge, it is fun, and it is necessary to have a little game life, in order to live a happier life. Otherwise, the daily rigid life, I will want to die, but I really don’t know how to live the second half of my life. This kind of challenge cannot be given to me by the second type of work, so I will say it is the only one. Our society is doing something to bury some Human talent, I don’t mean that I have any talent, at least I can do a job I like, and I can be recognized for a small amount of expertise, which is enough.”

After he finished speaking, Huang Dong shouted again that he was going home to catch two manuscripts.
