千里之行,始於足下

come to Yogyakarta

When I was a child, I read ancient novels, and if I talked about far away places, I would always mention the island of Java. For example, in "Water Margin", Pan Jinlian accidentally threw a fork on Ximen Qing's head. Ximen Qing was about to have a seizure, but when he saw Pan Jinlian's beauty, he "first blushed, and his anger went straight to the 'Java country'. turned into a smiling face." Java was a remote and unfamiliar country to people in the past.

But thanks to modern transportation, I was only a few hours away from Yogyakarta on the island of Java. Yogyakarta is now known for its monuments, such as the Buddhist temple Borobudur and the Hindu temple Prambanan, but it has always been the center of Javanese culture. Not only that, after the Second World War, the Indonesian Independence Army relied on the assistance of the Sultan of Yogyakarta to drive out the Dutch colonists, so the status of Yogyakarta is quite respected in Indonesia-until now, the Sultan of Yogyakarta (the king of the land) ) remains the hereditary governor of the Yogyakarta region. But before delving into Yogyakarta's culture, I first had the opportunity to visit the farmhouses here.

I was greeted at the airport by my first couchsurfing host, Alex for short. Alex kindly took my backpack, took me on his motorcycle, and started driving to his house. Previous reviews on couchsurfing sites said Alex was a friendly guy and would take his guests around; so when other reviews said Alex's home was "a bit remote", I didn't care. However, when the motorcycle became more and more remote, and I watched the street lights gradually become sparser and the road became narrower, I couldn't help but ask Alex: "How far is your home?" "Not far, not far" Alex replied.

As the motorcycle drove into the mountains, my mood gradually changed from anxiety to resignation. Finally, the motorcycle stopped on a path where there were no street lights and a bright starry sky could be seen when looking up. I turned my head and looked around - I was living in a high-rise building in Hong Kong yesterday, but today I came to a rural village on the outskirts of Indonesia, and I felt a little suspicious.
