Editor’s note: Boding, a special economic zone in Laos that borders China’s Yunnan border, has been in a state of abandonment since it was shut down by the Lao government in 2011 due to gambling and related criminal activities. Until 2016, China's Yunnan Haicheng Group entered the local area and resumed real estate investment activities, which rekindled the imagination of this border town for development.
