those on the edge of memory

More than ten years ago, when I was still at the age when I used a film machine to record the personnel of my hometown, I photographed stacks of old things, a cat walking on an abandoned hedge in the sun, and a group of children who played the old game of fire. , The old grandma who enjoys the shade in front of the old house. These are now the memory of the old among the old. People and things have changed, and they have been left far behind by the rapidly changing technology and information. Occasionally, I inadvertently think of the pictures I have captured, such as now, and discover that they are the same as the current ones. There is an unbreakable relationship. It started when I left home in college, and there was a curiosity about the connection between the past and the present, and a desire to find out why the past was the cause.

A corner of the alley of the hometown

He has lived in England since 2013 and moved to Slovakia in 2016. He has met various antique collectors on different occasions. In terms of economic scale, there are a lot of people, from small collections as a sideline to operating antique trading business. I myself also love the feeling of being surrounded by old things I like, but I am still not a rich person. The only things I collect when I have spare money are small dolls and old illustrations. 2016/4 "Art Collection + Design" monthly magazine published "Turning Antique Map Collections into Business Opportunities: Visiting the London Antique Map Gallery", which is my first interview and writing project for antique maps and book brokers because I pay attention to old things , introduced Altea Gallery and Daniel Crouch Rare Books, which operate in very different styles.

Looking for antique stores and second-hand markets in every city, spending more time in it, looking for old things with feeling, or taking a few more glances at monuments, paying attention to people in various fields who want to continue the memory and heritage of the old days, and gradually became me will do. Now living in Slovakia, in the article " Meet the Black Hole Project in Slovakia: The Long Road to Searching for Memory and Creating Memory " in the "Observer's Art and Literature Archives" in April 2020, I wrote about the local regeneration and Design and create team.

Old objects and culture contain many aspects and forms. I write, create, and also do some reading research and interviews. The ongoing "Informant Workshop" project is an extension of traditional European handicraft spools and lace, and I do it on Medium. Writing about people and things.

Back to let love generate electricity, I take "those at the edge of memory" as an opportunity for me to keep paying attention to old things and cultural issues, and to run my own writing platform. According to the theory of blockchain, Matters' articles will be preserved forever , then as an old and old cultural record, it may be more suitable! On the edge of memory means a process that is being forgotten, and the so-called "those" can be architectural relics, monuments, old furniture, old books, lost skills, marginalized people and history, etc.

I come from a humanistic background studying advertising and art and design education. I will cut in from the perspective of history, culture and art design, and continue to write the real stories of the places I go and the people I meet.

  • The first article is expected to be published on 10/15, writing about the Jewish sites, buildings, monuments, past history and memory creation of the Jewish people in Slovakia that I visited in Bratislava. After the Holocaust and the founding of Israel, the number of Jews still in Slovakia has fallen far short of what it was before World War II. After going through the socialist period, the preservation of Jewish culture is even more difficult. I am a Taiwanese who is far away from Jewish culture. While walking, I actually visited several Jewish ruins that my local friends around me had never been to. Between people, and between races, sometimes a short distance can make people unable to know each other.
  • The second article is expected to be released on 10/30, and talks about the existing bunker ruins in Bratislava, the military museum, the history of the twentieth-century European war associated with it, and the status quo of the former war front. Bratislava is the city where I live now. In the past, the Iron Curtain was only a few hundred meters away from where I lived if you just looked at the map. In Europe, which is a sparsely populated area, theoretically it was just within sight of the window. Inside, but in fact, it is impossible to see the boundary of the Iron Curtain that has been dismantled. Living on the front lines of what was once a war plan felt rather peculiar, a kind of time that pushed us forward and we no longer knew the past.

If you like my writing axis and look forward to these two stories, give me your support :)
