"Freedom is not free" after reading

"No one has the right to ask others to be martyrs. We can only respect those who choose to do so voluntarily." - Zha Jianying

A dialogue book belonging to the two authors. It really records the conversations that were blown on the tenth day. It is not like reading this book so that you can systematically sort out the origins and transitions of your thinking. It's a bit of a whirlwind, and on the fourth day, there may be some repetitions about the return, but of course not a lot. But the end of each day is so abrupt, I always feel that there is no complete chapter.

But it doesn’t matter, it’s been a long time. There are Sino-US Sino-Japanese relations, Sino-Japanese American society, the struggle between the left and the right in the United States, democratic dictatorship, the personal travel of the two authors, China before and after the June 4th, metoo, Men and women, same-sex relationships, marriage, tiger mothers and sheep mothers, observations on the summer of 2019 in Hong Kong, changes in the mentality and mood of immigrating to the United States, India, patriotism, etc...

One is an author who immigrated to the United States after the June 4th Movement, and the other is an author who grew up in Japan and went to China to study at Peking University. It seems that they are very decadent, but in fact, the output of the two is a lot. It can be said that this book is the essence of the two people who have absorbed it for many years. The writing is smooth because it is easy to listen to people. If you want to carefully read it from the perspective of Chinese, American, Japanese and Chinese authors, this book is absolutely Yes, but if you really want to read a subject, you may think that it is not worth spending so much time reading it into 600 pages.

As a proud Chinese, I end with a quote from Kato Kaichi from the Japanese:

"As long as you are Chinese, your survival and business in this place will be distorted, and you have to obey Chinese rules, whether it's being a civil servant or crossing the road. Since the system is distorted, you are the one who takes advantage of it and makes money. Otherwise. The problem is that you realize that you are taking advantage of a market that has been distorted by the system. If you take advantage, you should be ashamed.”

btw sooner or later it becomes a banned book.
