Song Jiang Array has the function of exorcising evil spirits and keeping peace. In fact, it was originally a folk performance in China. After it was introduced to Taiwan, it developed in Taiwan, with Tainan and Kaohsiung retaining the most. L's father is the coach of Song Jiang Formation in a certain place in Tainan. I still remember that my father used to bring Song Jiang Formation to our garage to go around and bless the family.

The styles of play handed down by each Songjiang formation group are different, some are more traditional, some are innovative, and some have special martial arts performances, which are often seen when there are activities in southern temples. For example, the Golden Lion Array, the White Crane Array, and the Songjiang Array with the heroic face of the Water Margin and the culture of the Pingpu ethnic group are all unique.

However, nowadays, fewer and fewer young people are participating in this traditional art formation, and most of them are still supported by older members. Even if someone has been paid to practice and play, very few people are willing (even our relatives are not willing to participate, and parents are not very willing to let their children play).

Song Jiangzhen usually follows a large team of a palace and temple on tour, and then walks along the road to the designated temples to perform. Although every time I go to see Song Jiang Formation, the sound of drums and their shouting makes my blood boil, but after watching it, I will think, will this faction Song Jiang Formation be in my father in a few years? This generation is lost forever.

The Song Jiang Formation, which my father was in charge of teaching, was accompanied by the temple activities held every four years. It was originally held last year, but it was postponed to this year due to the epidemic, but it was not successful this year. So, maybe when I return to Taiwan from the UK next year, I can just see my dad training and performing. Some expectations.

Off topic:

When I was a child, I also went to see my father and them practicing, but then I seldom went because I was busy with studying. What impressed me the most was that every time my father finished his practice, he would bring us a bowl of their supper. It was the kind of big pot of porridge or noodles that my aunt would fry or cook for everyone. It was really delicious.
