3 Ways to Break the Curse of Your Comfort Zone

3 Ways to Break the Curse of Your Comfort Zone

This time, I am very happy to be invited by Qiu Yujie and Zhao Xun to the Podcast program "Workplace Money Ability" to talk about some workplace chaos and face various situations of work and life. The following is a link to the interview, which was a very interesting experience, and I also put some thoughts into the article appendix below.

When working in the workplace, many people often feel wronged because of their work, full of negative energy and complaints, and feel that in order to make a living, they still have to work hard. Work is always accompanied by many disappointments, but because I am very used to working, I am always reluctant or afraid to leave the current environment, or do not want to change my lifestyle. This is what we often call the "comfort zone" .

so! The comfort zone doesn't have to be comfortable! , We are often like a canary raised in a gorgeous bird cage since childhood. We have clean water to drink, carefully selected feed for us to eat, and our home environment can be cleaned frequently. This is what we think of as a known and comfortable world. But we are human beings and not canaries, so we can naturally guess. Would this be the life that canaries want most?

The comfort zone is just a range we are used to, and we don’t have to face the fear of the unknown, so I choose this way. Even when I get older, I can comfort myself with a sentence like “I could have…, but…” . Although it seems easy, as human beings, what we often regret is not what we have done, but what I did not do. I will share 3 points of practice and thinking here, let us try to break through the "comfort zone that is not comfortable at all" . Expand your comfort zone from ponds to lakes to oceans.

1. Begin with the end:

Because we often do not know what our future will look like, we often turn into a miserable appearance of being beaten by emotions every day, day by day. Therefore, if we first outline our future self and draw an image of what we want to be, then we can use this to deduce mid-term and short-term goals and know how to become our future self. You can also know more clearly whether you are invested in things you are interested in and passionate about, or even passionate about the workplace, or create a workplace environment that you love very much. If you still don’t know who you want to be, try and learn from various ways first, and keep an open mind. After all, I haven't tried many things, so I don't know if I like it or not, right?

2. Remind yourself that every effort may be a flower in the future:

Nietzsche said: "What doesn't kill me makes me stronger." We have found that we have tried many things, but it seems that there is no result. This is actually, we always overestimate what we can accomplish in one year; underestimate what we can accomplish in 10 years. And this requires constantly telling myself that my efforts will definitely bloom, but not necessarily soon, so I need to get through this seemingly endless tunnel. At this time, if I outline my own appearance with the end as the beginning, then I will There is a better chance to see the light at the entrance of the tunnel.

3. Build open and diverse thinking in 3 steps:

Step 1 - Think about the pros and cons of things

Everything has two sides, but we often think to extremes and feel great, and we always think about what is good for us; now that we are in a bad mood, we are always immersed in pessimistic thoughts. But in fact, we need to practice slapping ourselves, not let ourselves fall into a state of self-affirmation and denial, but tell ourselves that everything has other possibilities, so that we can make choices that we like both before and after.

Step 2 - Study a lot

If you don't learn, you don't turn experience into nutrients for growth. We will always follow what others say and see things with instinct and framework. It is impossible to have the ability to think independently, so how do you know that there is a way to make the choices you like? .

Step 3 - Do what you can do

Even if the first two steps are clear, we may still face surprises, and there is always an element of luck that cannot be controlled. So we have to keep telling ourselves to look at it over time. What we are doing is to make ourselves better for a long time, and we must not judge ourselves or things as good or bad based on the result of something. We don't become great by reading one book, but reading one book a week for 10 years must be very different; we don't become hunk by doing two push-ups, but going to the gym 3 times a week Retraining for 10 years, I believe it won't be much worse.
