Before leaving the company, I asked my seniors for advice on "Where can I find a job?" "How to learn a new technology?". On the last afternoon, I was encouraged and affirmed by the current project manager, and asked some questions.

The time from signing the resignation notice to returning the company’s assets is actually within a few days (although there is still a legal notice period of nearly a week).


I asked a number of seniors I know to ask some questions, and the content of the questions is listed in bold and ordinary fonts below.

Where do you recommend looking for a job?

As a web engineer, it is best to stay in Taipei to find a job in a pure software company. It is better for career development and salary. There are also many software companies in Taichung, but the salary is a bit worse, unless there are such as hometown in Taichung. Class of the situation should not be as good as Taipei otherwise. Hsinchu is mostly a semiconductor company. If you can join the overflow company, the salary may be higher, but you may need relevant experience or thesis to have a chance. Otherwise, you need to accumulate experience from the second and third tier small factories and then climb up. The seniors have not been in the south either, so I can't give advice in this part.

How to learn a new technology?

"Join the IT Ironman Competition".

2021 iThome Ironman Competition - iT State Help , held around September every year. After the participants designate a theme, they will publish an article every day for the next 30 days, usually in the process of completing the theme from shallow to deep. Some people will accumulate a large number of manuscripts and strive for good rankings in the event to get the opportunity to publish the book, so this is also a gathering place for development strategies worth digging for treasure.

The reason for the advice of seniors is to use this opportunity to make yourself persist for 30 days, to spend time researching and accumulating output every day, so you don't need to care about the integrity of the overall structure when participating in Ironman competitions. This is not a strategy for others. It's a learning record for yourself. Assuming that the goals set at the beginning are indeed completed on time, it means that you should have learned to the extent that you can be practical. Even if you don’t complete it, you will not be able to do white work. You should have a good understanding of this topic.

In addition to the purpose of learning, the combination of the challenge article and the github project of the final product will make your resume more weighty. If you don't want to write a pure research journal, but want to have 30 articles with a complete structure, this requires prior planning and actual implementation in the process. If it can be achieved naturally, it is a plus point.

To transpose or not to transpose, that is the question

"This is your first job, which means you don't have a comparison partner, and you don't feel that no matter how good I or others say the company is. So if you stay, of course it's good, if you leave, it's okay to go out and see, maybe you can find a better company. It’s a suitable place, or after comparison, I think it’s still better here, so I can come back later.”

"Unsuccessful transfer doesn't mean the ability is not good, it's just that it just doesn't fit right now."


The diversion is maintained until I leave the company, so half of my colleagues have not seen each other for more than three months. Before leaving the company, in order to return the equipment and other procedures, I will meet another class of colleagues when I finally enter the company. For me, it is like Thank you for the opportunity to say hello.

On the last day of work, I greeted my colleagues, revised the program in charge, and found a conference room with my supervisor in the afternoon to chat. The supervisor first expressed regret for my failure to stay in the company, and then affirmed my work performance in the past two years.

"The proportion of senior engineers in our department is relatively low, so some things can only be learned by doing, and you can ask questions if you have any questions. In fact, it is ideal to arrange code reviews on a regular basis, and directly explain what is not good and how to change it. , so it is recommended to ask the proportion of senior engineers in the company when looking for a job. Therefore, you have actually developed the needs of engineers who are generally not handed over to engineers with less than two years of experience in this team, and usually only come into contact with a single type of update. The demand for data will not have too many kinds of data and complex logic.”

In addition, since the supervisor is not an undergraduate, he also asked about the method of learning new technologies and the way to verify whether he has learned it.

"Because you are taking the initiative to find a topic to study, you will have this kind of question. I learn new technology because I have work problems to solve, so being able to solve the problem means that I have learned enough to use it. Of course, in fact It may be later found that the writing method is not good and needs to be optimized, then continue to learn during the development process to reduce the occurrence of this situation in the future.”

"It may be difficult to find a job between now and the end of the year. If you don't find it right away, even if you haven't been successful for a month or two, don't be discouraged. You can also find a job online or through the VTC during this period. The course enriches me.”

Finally, I cleaned up my personal belongings, returned the employee identification card and the borrowed company computer, and left the company. The time is 4:30 in the afternoon. It is rare to hang around outdoors at this time on weekdays. Anyway, let's go see a movie!
